Today we’re looking at a couple of sermons Brigham delivered over a 4 month period of time. I noticed the discrepancies while working on another project several months ago.

Journal of Discourses 4:54 “We are of the earth, earthy; and our Father is heavenly and pure. But we will be glorified and purified, if we obey our brethren and the teachings which are given.” — Brigham Young, Great Salt Lake City, September 21, 1856

  • 1 Corinthians 15:47 ‘The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.’
  • Romans 8:30 “Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.”

 Today we’re looking at a speech Brigham Young delivered 158 years ago that’s still in effect today. Pray for all Mormons who believe his lies!

Pray for the Christian ministries with boots on the ground as we speak. Many have made the trip to last ‘Miracle in Manti‘ Pageant. This LDS production has been going on for decades now, but with Mr. Nelson’s directives, they’ve been eliminated.

Many Christians will go with tracts in hand, and witness to the thousands of Mormons who’ve turned this event into their yearly family vacation. Nestled in the hills of Utah, Manti is virtually unknown if not for the yearly pageants. The surrounding communities are swamped with polygamous families still in operation. One of our faithful visitors to this site will be in attendance as well! (Praying for you Melissa B.!)

When Kirk and I visited the pageant years ago, groups of women donned in long skirts and bright pink t-shirts came up to argue the benefits of polygamy. Their t-shirts said, ‘Help stamp out monogamy’. Oh my…

They will, by-and-by, be a thousand times more thankful for such a man as Joseph Smith, junior, than it is possible for them to be for any earthly good whatever. LDS Contradictions: The Spirit Enters the Body When…

Job 31:15 “Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?”

Being raised in Utah Mormonism affords a person many experiences of being taught things that aren’t necessarily standard LDS doctrine. Today we’re looking at one of those.

A few weeks ago I came across a copy of the LDS General Handbook Vol. 1, originally provided by the Mormon version of WikiLeaks. This book serves as another reminder of how the Church goes out of its way to confuse people.a

As many of our readers know, our daughter Mallory was stillborn in October 1988. With that in mind, I’m obviously interested in what the Church’s thoughts are on this topic. What caught my attention in this go-round was the major contradiction they serve up as official doctrine.

Not only did they contradict themselves in what they believe about stillbirths, they also left those who are affected by the tragedy with absolutely no hope. Check out what they’ve said in the Handbook, and what Brigham Young said about babies. (more…)

General Conference, ‘Importance of Records,’ October 1968, 76 “My dear brothers and sisters…If you were to approach a military installation some dark night, you would be immediately challenged by a sentry with the question, “Who goes there?” If you were to answer that challenge with the word “friend,” the sentry would answer, “Advance, friend, and give the password.” If you were neither able to give the password nor to identify yourself, you would be placed in an embarrassing and dangerous position.

Mystery of Blasphemies

John 17:3, 8 “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God. 8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.”

The passage above comes from John’s gospel, and depicts what is known as ‘The High Priestly Prayer’.

It’s the longest prayer of Jesus, and is also referred to as the ‘Farewell Discourse’.

Most unfortunately, it’s the same passage (specifically, vs. 3) Brigham Young  often used as an argument for his blasphemous Adam-God Theory.

With all this in mind, we’re looking at an infamous event in Mormonism where Brigham delivered a sermon on February 7, 1877 at the temple in St. George, Utah; ‘The Lecture at the Veil’. As you’ll see, the title of our article is a play on words of how Brigham referred to his ‘unique’ beliefs about God.

The reason why we’re referencing this is because of Young’s scurrilous interpretation of scripture, and the picture it painted regarding the Lord’s character. For many years his teachings were what Mormons were taught, and what they believed about God. (more…)
