Deseret News ~ “…Joseph received a revelation on celestial marriage. You will recollect, brethren and sisters, that it was in July, 1843, that he received this revelation concerning celestial marriage. …there are some who say it is very hard. They say, ‘This is rather a hard business; I don’t like my husband to take a plurality of wives in the flesh.’
Just a few words upon this. We would believe this doctrine entirely different from what it is presented to us if we could do so. If we could make every man upon the earth get him a wife, live righteously and serve God, we would not be under the necessity, perhaps, of taking more than one wife. But they will not do this; the people of God, therefore, have been commanded to take more wives…

The Lion of the Lord: a biography of Brigham Young, pp. 126 – 127 ““Make haste and get married,” Remy heard Young preach. “Let me see no boys above sixteen and girls above fourteen unmarried.” …. Fifteen years later as Dodge’s party listened, the prophet said he had married his wives not “for love or lust” but because God had commanded “all women, young and old, to be made mothers in Israel”. Luke 1:34-35 “Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? 35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.”
The excerpt below comes from the quarterly magazine, Dialogue, A Journal of Mormon Thought. Their articles reflect a side of Mormonism faithful members of the Church typically don’t read because it’s not ‘faith promoting’, and/or they simply don’t know about them.
I’m using the essay of David John Buerger for two reasons.
1.It’s a good example of how the Church retro-engineers their published articles.
2.It shows how the Church refuses to publish all sermons of their leaders, and holds onto them in their ‘archives collection’. Today’s example is case in point. (more…)

We will not; though the Christian world are actually coming to the point that they will dismiss the Bible from their schools; and by and by they will dismiss it from their pulpits…
They cannot abide the doctrine contained in the Old and New Testament, “and,” say they, “we must alter and change it; it does not suit our condition. It was not written for us; it was written for people in days of old …
We cannot find books of that edition; some that have been altered and changed are plentiful. I mean King James’ translation, and that is good enough for me; it will answer my purpose. But how is it with the Christian world? Will it answer theirs? If it will, why do they not abide by it? … They would do so if they were honest and their belief was sincere.
