Psalm 119:73; “Thy hands have made me and fashioned me: give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments.”

JosephusOne of the coolest things I’ve experienced as a Christian is the freedom we have in Him as Christians. We have freedom to read materials that aren’t necessarily all about Christianity, nor are they always found in Christian bookstores. What materials am I referring to?

Dictionaries. Thesauruses. Concordances. History books. Historical journals. The everyday things that are seemingly mundane when looked at individually. Collectively, however, they give us a broader understanding of what’s going on around us, whereby helping us to make informed decisions. This, in turn, produces a strong faith while building an impartial view of others.

Note: The Works of Josephus is hands down, one of my favorite go-to historical references for Ancient Mesopotamia.

Jesus crucifiedSo today I visited the LDS.org site, and came upon an (a-hem), let’s just say, an interesting article; 7 Family-Friendly Ideas for Centering Easter on Christ,’ March 4, 2016, by Irinna Danielson.

The first thing that popped out at me was the little cross made of toothpicks…more on that later…

Mormon Decisions 10Ensign, “How Can I Know That The Lord Has Forgiven Me?,” January 2015; “If the time comes when you have done all that you can to repent of your sins, whoever you are, wherever you are, and have made amends and restitution to the best of your ability; if it be something that will affect yourHarold B. Lee standing in the Church and you have gone to the proper authorities, then you will want that confirming answer as to whether or not the Lord has accepted of you. In your soul-searching, if you seek for and you find that peace of conscience, by that token you may know that the Lord has accepted of your repentance. Satan would have you think otherwise and sometimes persuade you that now having made one mistake, you might go on and on with no turning back. That is one of the great falsehoods. The miracle of forgiveness is available to all of those who turn from their evil doings and return no more.” – Harold B. Lee

Mormon Decisions 10General Conference, April 2015; “Blessings of the Temple”; “As I think of temples, my thoughts turn to the many blessings we receive therein. As we enter through the doors of the temple, we leave behind us the distractions and confusion of the world. Inside this sacred sanctuary, we find beauty and order. There is rest for our souls and a respite from the cares of our lives.

As we attend the temple, there can come to us a dimension of spirituality and a feeling of peace whichThomas Monson will transcend any other feeling which could come into the human heart. We will grasp the true meaning of the words of the Savior when He said: “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you. … Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (John 14:27)…My brothers and sisters, in our lives we will have temptations; we will have trials and challenges. As we go to the temple, as we remember the covenants we make there, we will be better able to overcome those temptations and to bear our trials. In the temple we can find peace.” – President Thomas S. Monson

April 5 – Acts 8:14-7; “Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.”

ChuMormon Decisions 10rch News, June 20, 1992, p.3; “Many versions of the Bible are available today. Unfortunately, no original manuscripts of any portion of the Bible are available for comparison to determine the most accurate version. However, the Lord has revealed clearly the doctrines of the gospel in these latter days. The most reliable way to measure the accuracy of any biblical passage is not by comparing different texts, but by comparison with the Book of Mormon and modern-day revelations” (Presidents Ezra Taft Benson, Gordon B. Hinckley, and Thomas Monson, “Letter Reaffirms use of King James Version Bible,” Church News, June 20, 1992, p.3).

2014 Mount of OlivesIsaiah 63:8,9; “For he said, Surely they are my people, children that will not lie: so he was their Saviour. 9 In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old.”

Matthew 25:34-40; “Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: 36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. 37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? 38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? 39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? 40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”

Mormon Decisions 10Journal of Discourses 6:126; “Jesus said to his disciples, “Ye are the salt of the earth; and if the salt loses its saving principle, it is then good for nothing but to be cast out.” Instead of reading it just as it is, almost all of you read it just as it is not. Jesus meant to say, “If you have lost the saving principles, you Twelve Apostles, and you that believe in my servants the Twelve, you shall be like unto the salt that has lost its saving principles: it is henceforth good for nothing but to be cast out and trodden under foot of men.” Judas lost that saving principle, and they took him and killed him. It is said in the Bible that his bowels gushed out; but they actually kicked him until his bowels came out.” – Heber C. Kimball, Salt Lake City, December 13, 1857

Mormon Decisions 10Journal of Discourses 5:364; “A gentleman, with whom I came in contact while at Washington, made this objection against Mormonism.  Talking about the institution of plurality of wives, said he, “It never will answer; it will break up all the whorehouses in the country; for women would not abide in such establishments and sustain them, if they could only have respectable and comfortable houses. This polygamy system will smash up that (Christian) institution altogether.” – George A. Smith, Salt Lake City, November 1, 1857

Mormon Decisions 10New Era. ‘Truths Most Worth Knowing,’ August 2014; “This is what I have come to teach you who are in trouble. He will step in and solve the problem you cannot solve, but you have to pay the price. It does not come without doing that. He is a very kind ruler in the sense that He will always pay the price necessary, but He wants you to do what you should, even if it is painful.

I love the Lord, and I love the Father who sent Him. Our burdens of disappointment, sin, and guilt can be laid before Him, and on His generous terms, each item on the account can be marked “paid in full.” – Boyd K. Packer

1000+ Mormon QuotesContinuing along in our mini-series of Mormon quotes, I thought this subject matter was worthy of mention!

As I said before when we’re posting these things day after day it doesn’t dawn on us just how many outrageous teachings they’ve uttered.  What sticks out the most to me personally is how many of the Mormon leaders say such ridiculous things. It’s not just one of two of them and it’s not just on a rare occurrence – it’s happened quite often with no rhyme nor reason. Once we get them in one concise setting, the doors of their bizarre way of thinking become clearly evident.

Mormon Decisions 10Encyclopedia of Mormonism, p 649; “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints teaches that the Holy Ghost is a spirit man, a spirit son of God the Father. It is fundamental Church doctrine that God is the Father of the spirits of all men and women, that Jesus is literally God’s Son both in the spirit and in the flesh, and that the Holy Ghost is a personage of spirit separate and distinct from both the Father and the Son.” – Daniel Ludlow

Mormon Decisions 10Answers to Gospel Questions 3:207; “Question: “Why did Christ have to shed his blood in the atonement to relieve us of the responsibility of the fall?”

Answer: The reason that the blood of Christ had to be shed is because Adam was without blood before the fall. The blood came into his body afterwards. Therefore, it was necessary that the blood which came by the fall should be shed in the atonement.” – Joseph Fielding Smith

Mormon Decisions 10New Era, January 2014, p 31; “Aid from the Unseen World…Perhaps if we would do our work in behalf of those of the unseen world who hunger and pray for the work we can do for them, the unseen world would in return give us help in this day of our urgent need. There are more in that other world than there are here. There is more power and strength there than we have here upon this earth. (5. John A. Widtsoe, in Conference Report, Apr. 1943, 39.)”

Old-Testament-Gospel-Doctrine-Teachers-Manual-35570000As our readers know we’ve been posting the weekly Old Testament Sunday school lessons the Church is going through and to save my sanity I’ve put them all in one place to make it easier to access.  If you want to find out what they taught when, you can find the widget over on the right!

We’re praying you use these as a witnessing tool or if you’re LDS you allow the information presented here to give you further insight about God and who He is.  We do this out of respect and not to bash the Mormons.

With Love in Christ;

Old-Testament-Gospel-Doctrine-Teachers-Manual-35570000The Church seems to be performing an all out blitz on the Old Testament lately with articles on OT Prophets, the story of Adam and Eve, OT Sunday school lessons, et al.  It’s interesting to see how many ways they can spin the web of lies they try to pawn off on unsuspecting members.

The purpose of their lesson this week is to “help each class member understand that the Fall was a necessary part of Heavenly Father’s plan for us”.

Mormon Decisions 10Journal of Discourses 14:199; “There is no other people in the world that believe in and practice the Bible as strictly as the Latter-day Saints. None but the Latter-day Saints properly believe in the Lord Jesus Christ; no other people acknowledge him and keep his commandments; and yet they follow us up, their object, professedly, being to convert us to Christianity, but in reality it is to induce us to apostatize until they get the upper hand, that the Priesthood may again be destroyed from the earth.” – Brigham Young, Ogden, Utah, June 3, 1871
