Wilford Woodruff 2 Journal of Discourses 23:330-331; “It is our duty to build these temples. It is our duty to enter into them and redeem our dead. Joseph Smith is preaching to the spirits in prison; so are all the elders who have died in the faith. There are millions of them there, and they must have the gospel offered to them.

James 1:13; “Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man.”

LDS LeadersA few days ago we looked at the Mormon’s version of the first man, Adam. See More LDS Contradictions about Adam, pt. 1. Today we’re finishing that up with a number of LDS quotes made by a variety of LDS leaders from Joe Smith, on down.

The one thing to keep in mind while looking over these quotes is God’s word. What would He want for us to know about Adam, and how does the Christian apply this to their daily walk with Him? Equally important, how do we share what we know with the Mormon people?

Divorce Among Mormon Polygamists: Extent and Explanations, p. 9; “An interesting glimpse of this Wilford Woodruff 2period is provided by a letter from Wilford Woodruff to George A. Smith in April 1857: We George A Smithhave had a great reformation this winter; some of the fruits are: all have confessed their sins either great or small, restored their stolen property; all have been baptized from the presidency down; all are trying to pay their tithing and nearly all are trying to get wives, until there is hardly a girl 14 years old in Utah, but what is married, or just going to be. President Young has hardly time to eat, drink or sleep, in consequence of marrying the people and attending the endowments.” – Eugene E. Campbell and Bruce L. Campbell

Matthew 15:8-9; “This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. 9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.”

The Occult in Mormonism and the Life of Joseph SmithWhat God-fearing Christian doesn’t know, and treat with awe, the words of Christ in this passage?  I don’t know of any. Do you?

One sign that Mormonism doesn’t qualify as a Christian church is because of statements made by their leaders we’re looking at today. Pray for them, won’t you? Their comments are so brazen and rebellious, it immediately stops me in my tracks.

I’m not so much concerned about the disregard for their own canon, as I am about the word of God. Obviously, if they truly loved Jesus, they’d heed His precious words.

The garish images on the left are but a few of the resources Mormonism relies upon. Coupled with the comments we see today, they stand as a testament to what’s going on inside their hearts.

saint-george-mormon-templeNothing in Mormonism is simple. Every subject matter is invariably linked to something else of major import, and thus it is with my discovery today.

While retrieving info for a future article on Wilford Woodruff, Wilford Woodruff 2Mormonism’s 4th president/prophet, I came across the quote I was looking for in a speech Mr. Woodruff made on posthumous baptisms for deceased US Presidents. I found his teachings so blasphemous I couldn’t let them slide on by as I’ve had to do in the past with many of the other things Mormon leaders have said.

Mormon Decisions 10Necromancy and the LDS Church.Elijah at Kirtland Temple

Today we’re looking at what the Lord says about this, and the LDS practice of talking to dead people. They seem to have an affinity for this behavior and unfortunately, it didn’t stop with Joseph Smith.

Mormon Decisions 10Journal of Discourses 22:173; “The Lamanites, now a down-trodden people, are a remnant of the house of Israel. The curse of God has followed them as it has done the Jews, though the Jews have not been darkened in their skin as have the Lamanites. The fate of the Jews in this respect is a standing monument to all infidelity.” – Wilford Woodruff, Salt Lake City, June 12, 1881

Mormon Decisions 10Millennial Star, Vol. 57, No. 46, November 14, 1985, pg 739; “Now I would ask this congregation; I would ask all the Jews, the Catholics, the Protestants, I would ask the clergy of all nations: Can this mighty dispensation of which every prophet has spoken be fulfilled and can these great events transpire in the  earth, without revelation from God? No, most assuredly not. God never gave … a greater dispensation than the one in which Joseph Smith was called and ordained of God to organize the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It required revelation. It will require it to the winding-up scene. Zion cannot be built up … nor can the nations of the earth be warned of the great judgments that are at the door without it.” – Wilford Woodruff

Visiting Teaching Message for December 2013

flowers-cartoon-8The Visiting Teaching message for December 2013 is the first part of a series on the life of the Jesus of Mormonism. This month’s lesson is titled “The Divine Mission of Jesus Christ: The Only Begotten Son”.

In my October message I talked about the origins of the Mormon Jesus, this month I want to take a look at what Mormons say about the Father of Jesus Christ.

salt lake mormon temple 2Millennial Star, Vol. 41, No. 16, April 21, 1879, pg 241; “The American Nation will be broken in pieces…. you live in the day and hour of the judgments of God Almighty…. the hour of God’s judgment is at the door…. I wish to warn all nations…. Thrones will be cast down, nations will be overturned, anarchy will reign, all legal barriers will be broken down, and the laws will be trampled in the dust. You are about to be visited with war, sword, famine, pestilence, plague, earthquakes, whirlwinds, tempests, and with the flame of devouring fire…. the slain of the Lord will be many.” – Wilford Woodruff

salt lake mormon temple 2Waiting for World’s End: The Diaries of Wilford Woodruff, edited by Susan Staker, Signature Books, 1993, pg 305; “Again Presdet Young said Joseph the Prophet told me that the garden of Eden was in Jackson Co Missouri, & when Adam was driven out of the garden of Eden He went about 40 miles to the Place which we Named Adam Ondi Ahman, & there built an Altar of Stone & offered Sacrifize. That Altar remains to this day. I saw it as Adam left it as did many others, & through all the revolutions of the world that Altar had not been disturbed. Dead People in Mormon Temples

Mormon Decisions 10Journal of Discourses 19:229; “…before I left St. George, the spirits of the dead gathered around me, wanting to know why we did not redeem them. Said they, “You have had the use of the Endowment House for a number of years, and yet nothing has ever been done for us. We laid the foundation of the government you now enjoy, and we never apostatized from it, but we remained true to it and were faithful to God.” There were the signers of the Declaration of Independence, and they waited on me for two days and two nights…

Infallibility of the Prophet

salt lake mormon temple 2Doctrine & Covenants Official Declaration 1:14; “The Lord will never permit me or any other man who stands as President of this Church to lead you astray. It is not in the programme. It is not in the mind of God. If I were to attempt that, the Lord would remove me out of my place, and so He will any other man who attempts to lead the children of men astray from the oracles of God and from their duty. Black Woman will be White in Heaven

Wilford Woodruff, His Life and Labors, pg 587; “There is one peculiar characteristic noticeable in the journal of Wilford Woodruff, it is that hopeful, joyful spirit that dwells with ever increasing satisfaction upon the things that are good and uplifting…He said in his journal of October, that year, that “Aunt Jane,” the colored sister, had been to see him. She was anxious to go through the Temple and receive the higher ordinances of the gospel. President Woodruff blessed her for her constant, never changing devotion to the gospel, but explained to her her disadvantages as one of the descendants of Cain. In after years when President Joseph F. Smith preached the funeral sermon of this same faithful woman he declared that she would in the resurrection attain the longings of her soul and become a white and beautiful person.”

Polygamy and Mormon Church Leaders

Wilford Woodruff 1807-1898

Journal of Discourses 13:166; “If we were to do away with polygamy, it would only be one feather in the bird, one ordinance in the Church and kingdom. Do away with that, then we must do away with prophets and Apostles, with revelation and the gifts and graces of the Gospel, and finally give up our religion altogether and turn sectarians and do as the world does, then all would be right. We just can’t do that, for God has commanded us to build up His kingdom and to bear our testimony to the nations of the earth, and we are going to do it, come life or come death.” – Wilford Woodruff, Salt Lake City, December 12, 1869
