Summary of the Book of Mormon

Mormon Decisions 10Mormon 9:31-33; “Condemn me not because of mine imperfection, neither my father, because of his imperfection, neither them who have written before him; but rather give thanks unto God that he hath made manifest unto you our imperfections, that ye may learn to be more wise than we have been. 32 And now, behold, we have written this record according to our knowledge, in the characters which are called among us the reformed Egyptian, being handed down and altered by us, according to our manner of speech. 33 And if our plates had been sufficiently large we should have written in Hebrew; but the Hebrew hath been altered by us also; and if we could have written in Hebrew, behold, ye would have had no imperfection in our record.”

salt lake mormon temple 2New Testament Student Manual, pg 25; “In the Inspired Version, the Prophet added the following verses to the recorded account of the Savior’s youth. “And it came to pass that Jesus grew up with his brethren, and waxed strong, and waited upon the Lord for the time of his ministry to come. “And he served under his father, and he spake not as other men, neither could he be taught; for he needed not that any man should teach him.“And after many years, the hour of his ministry drew nigh.” (Matthew 3:24–26, Inspired Version.) Although the word father in this passage perhaps refers to Joseph, yet the content of the passage certainly shows that Jesus was taught by his real father, God the Father.”

Book of Mormon Metallurgy and Wishful Thinking

Mormon Decisions 10Mormons and Archaeology: An Outside View”, Dialogue: A Journal of Mormon Thought (Summer 1973) pgs 40–48; “There is an inherent improbability in specific items that are mentioned in the Book of Mormon as having been brought to the New World by Jaredites and/or Nephites. Among these are the horse (extinct in the New World since about 7,000 B.C.), the chariot, wheat, barley, and metallurgy (true metallurgy based upon smelting and casting being no earlier in Mesoamerica than about 800 A.D.). The picture of this hemisphere between 2,000 B.C. and A.D. 421 presented in the book has little to do with the early Indian cultures as we know them, in spite of much wishful thinking.” – Michael D. Coe, Yale University

Inspired of God?

Mormon Decisions 10Alma 17:9-10; “And it came to pass that they journeyed many days in the wilderness, and they fasted much and prayed much that the Lord would grant unto them a portion of his Spirit to go with them, and abide with them, that they might be an instrument in the hands of God to bring, if it were possible, their brethren, the Lamanites, to the knowledge of the truth, to the knowledge of the baseness of the traditions of their fathers, which were not correct.  10 And it came to pass that the Lord did visit them with his Spirit, and said unto them: Be comforted. And they were comforted.”

Romney, Mormonism, AmericaGathering the articles we wrote during Romney’s campaign made me wonder…what objective was achieved with all the Mormon ads?

When the Mormon Church came out of the woodwork like it did with the “I’m a Mormon” ad campaign, it gave us a good look at what their agenda was really all about.  It also surprised us with Christians who threw caution to the wind just so they could show they weren’t voting for a hardcore liberal like Obama.

Earth’s Spirit Cried Unto Enoch

Mormon Decisions 10Moses 7:48-49; “And it came to pass that Enoch looked upon the earth; and he heard a voice from the bowels thereof, saying: Wo, wo is me, the mother of men; I am pained, I am weary, because of the wickedness of my children. When shall I rest, and be cleansed from the filthiness which is gone forth out of me? When will my Creator sanctify me, that I may rest, and righteousness for a season abide upon my face? 49 And when Enoch heard the earth mourn, he wept, and cried unto the Lord, saying: O Lord, wilt thou not have compassion upon the earth? Wilt thou not bless the children of Noah?”

Shoddy Swords and Scalps

Mormon Decisions 10Alma 44:12; “And now when Moroni had said these words, Zerahemnah retained his sword, and he was angry with Moroni, and he rushed forward that he might slay Moroni; but as he raised his sword, behold, one of Moroni’s soldiers smote it even to the earth, and it broke by the hilt; and he also smote Zerahemnah that he took off his scalp and it fell to the earth. Stick of Judah, Stick of Ephraim

Mormon Decisions 10Mormon Doctrine, pg 767; “Ezekiel, in foretelling the preparation and coming forth of the Book of Mormon, called it the stick of Ephraim, and the stick of Joseph in the hand of Ephraim. In similar imagery he called the Bible the stick of Judah. The promise was that these two records would become one stick in the Lord’s hand in the day of the gathering of Israel. (Ezek. 37:15-28.)”

The Lord will Prepare a Way
