Book of Mormon Translation Issues
Another proof the Book of Mormon can’t be a translation from the Nephites who died off circa 421 AD is found in the KJV.
Italicized words in the King James Bible were added by translators for the reader. As languages are translated from one to the other, filler words are sometimes needed because idioms and word meanings don’t translate directly.

Were the Golden Plates Real?
D&C 17:1-4; “Behold, I say unto you, that you must rely upon my word, which if you do with full purpose of heart, you shall have a view of the plates, and also of the breastplate, the sword of Laban, the Urim and Thummim, which were given to the brother of Jared upon the mount, when he talked with the Lord face to face, and the miraculous directors which were given to Lehi while in the wilderness, on the borders of the Red Sea. 2 And it is by your faith that you shall obtain a view of them, even by that faith which was had by the prophets of old. 3 And after that you have obtained faith, and have seen them with your eyes, you shall testify of them, by the power of God; 4 And this you shall do that my servant Joseph Smith, Jun., may not be destroyed, that I may bring about my righteous purposes unto the children of men in this work.”

A few years ago I compiled a list of LDS quotes that contain disparaging remarks about Christianity. Since that time I’ve noticed there were many more worthy of being included in my list so I’ve updated it and placed it on the front page sidebar of the blog for easy access.
In light of the Church’s new motives in wanting members to proselytize on the internet I feel it’s our duty as Christians to be prepared in knowing what we’re up against and for us to warn our friends and neighbors. With this latest gig of theirs it’s like they’re right in the living rooms of America and the world.
Below you’ll see my original article with the updated quotes. You’ll notice their attitude towards the body of Christ isn’t exactly loving and it wasn’t just one or two church authorities’ comments made a long time ago – this continues even today.

In the Book of Mosiah you can read an interesting instruction about the person who will see and interpret the golden plates of Mormon.
First, they must be called a seer.
Second, those who see the records without being commanded will surely die.

September 21–22, 1823. Joseph Smith was visited by an angel named Moroni. Moroni prophesied of coming events and told Joseph of the Book of Mormon record, written on plates of gold. The angel allowed Joseph to see the gold plates, which were buried in the nearby Hill Cumorah.
September 22, 1827. Joseph Smith received the gold plates from Moroni at the Hill Cumorah after having met with Moroni on 22 September of each of the previous four years.

Book of Mormon Context Change/Nature of Jesus
The Book of Mormon is fraught with changes, discrepancies, contradictions and plagiarisms. Oh, did I mention false prophecies?
Today’s dilemma will show one example of a change made to the BoM text which in turn changed the whole meaning of the message. The passage here is talking about the nature and character of Jesus.

Deuteronomy 12:32; “What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.”
Could Jesus be wrong about Scripture? If He was the one who inspired men to write scripture is there a plausible answer for what took place with His visit to the Nephites in America circa 33 AD?
Our example in the Deuteronomy verse above is a gift to us from the Lord and should be used as guidance in how we’re to treat scripture and His commandments. When the Bible says not to add to His words or take away from it, we should heed His wise counsel and remember it when we come across things like we see with Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon.

Joseph Smith History 1:64-65; “”I went to the city of New York, and presented the characters which had been translated, with the translation thereof, to Professor Charles Anthon, a gentleman celebrated for his literary attainments. Professor Anthon stated that the translation was correct, more so than any he had before seen translated from the Egyptian. I then showed him those which were not yet translated, and he said that they were Egyptian, Chaldaic, Assyriac, and Arabic; and he said they were true characters. He gave me a certificate, certifying to the people of Palmyra that they were true characters, and that the translation of such of them as had been translated was also correct. I took the certificate and put it into my pocket, and was just leaving the house, when Mr. Anthon called me back, and asked me how the young man found out that there were gold plates in the place where he found them. I answered that an angel of God had revealed it unto him.
