salt lake mormon temple 2Discourses of Brigham Young, pg 50; “Gold and silver are composing, and so does every other kind of metal, the same as the hair upon my head, or the wheat in the field; they do not compose as fast, but they are all the time composing or decomposing. 1:219.” – Brigham Young

Old-Testament-Gospel-Doctrine-Teachers-Manual-35570000Like the first lesson in their study of the Old Testament lesson two has very little to do with the Bible, but has many references to other books in their canon.

This next lesson focuses on the Mormon belief that all of us lived before we came to earth in a premortal life with God. In this premortal life we lived as spirit children of God his goddess wife/wives. These spirit children include every person who has ever been born including Jesus and Satan, and 1/3 of the spirits who chose to follow Satan.

stickman thinking 3It’s a sad day for Seattle as far as I’m concerned.

I know there’s sin in the world and I also know this country (and the world too) is going down a steep road really fast.  Got it.  I’ve just been noticing a trend of sorts in the last couple of years with living in Seattle that I find interesting.  It seems whenever something outrageous is passed as law here, the country tends to follow right along.

Enos’ Age Defying Lifespan

Mormon Decisions 10Moses: Man of Miracles, pg 8; “When did civilization start? It began with Adam, the first man, unusually well educated because the Lord was his teacher. (Moses 6.) It is admitted that there was retrogression among some of his family who apostatized and then left his well-ordered society…

Thus they became the cavemen and other early degenerates who some scholars now mistakenly believe were the first men. All of this differs but little from situations found among certain aborigines who live today in some parts of the world.

Both the caveman-type and the advanced man of our present culture still live today, as examples of the contrast between human retrogression on one hand and cultural advancement on the other. Since this is happening today, can anyone say that the condition did not also exist 5,000 or 6,000 years ago?” – Mark E. Petersen

Mormon Decisions 10The Words of Joseph Smith, pg 416; “We are fast approaching that moment prophesied by Joseph Smith when he said:

Even this Nation will be on the very verge of crumbling to pieces and tumbling to the ground and when the constitution is upon the brink of ruin this people will be the Staff up[on] which the Nation shall lean and they shall bear the constitution away from the very verge of destruction.” – Ezra Taft Benson, Prophet, in Howard and Martha Coray Notebook, July 19, 1840, quoted by Andrew F. Packer

Salt Lake Temple (2)No matter where you go during the holiday season you’re sure to encounter banners or signs with the phrase “peace on earth”.  I’ve often wondered about that phrase and while I know I’m probably going against the grain, let me explain why I believe this phrase is misunderstood by many of the people who use it.

Mormon Decisions 10Journal of Discourses 12:199; “It seems to be a pretty general idea among the people that swine’s flesh can be more easily raised than any other; but there is no doubt that, with proper care and attention, other kinds of meat might be produced with equal facility. For some reason God, by special law, prohibited its use to the children of Israel; and it certainly seems desirable that we should also discontinue its use, as within the past few years in some countries where a great amount of pork has been consumed the people have been afflicted with a kind of pestilence—a disease which is considered incurable. It is therefore wise and prudent for us to adopt plans to procure supplies from other sources.” – George A. Smith, Salt Lake City, April 6, 1868

Baptismal Interview Questions – Part 5

MormonBaptisimOne thing you’ll learn as you begin the process of converting to Mormonism is that Mormons think of themselves as a “covenant keeping people”. They believe they enter into and make many covenants with God throughout their lives, the first being the one they enter into when they’re baptized into the Mormon Church. This final question in the interview process asks for their commitment to keep this covenant.

salt lake mormon temple 2Brigham Young; Oct. 8, 1861; Original in LDS Church Archives; “The woman is the glory of the man; what is the glory of the woman? It is her virginity until she gives it into the hands of the man that will be her Lord and master to all eternity. She in many instances trifles with her virtue and will be damned for so doing, if it were not for more than five minutes. When a woman can say truly to her husband who magnifies his priesthood “I am as pure as you,” she ought to remember that she is the glory of that Lord.”
