Denying the Lord Jesus

While answering e-mails today I came across a passage of Mormon scripture in D&C 138:58-59 which says;

The dead who repent will be redeemed, through obedience to the ordinances of the house of God,  59 And after they have paid the penalty of their transgressions, and are washed clean, shall receive a reward according to their works, for they are heirs of salvation.

 This Generation Is Destroyed (1830)

Joseph Smith Testimony, 1:45; He commenced, and again related the very same things which he had done at his first visit, without the least variation; which having done, he informed me of great judgments which were coming upon the earth, with great desolations by famine, sword, and pestilence; and that these grievous judgments would come on the earth in this generation. Having related these things, he again ascended as he had done before.

Polygamy and Mormon Church Leaders Overview

Nauvoo Roots of Mormon Polygamy 1841-1846; A Preliminary Demographic Report, George D. Smith, pg. 32; “Over the six years when polygamy was practiced in Nauvoo, 1841 to 1846, Smith, Kimball, and Young were the most-married men in Nauvoo; they accounted, in fact, for 117 of the 434 Nauvoo polygamous marriages, over one-fourth of the marriages by the community of 153 polygamous husbands. After Nauvoo, Young married fifteen more wives and Kimball married eight. At the funeral of his wife, Vilate, Kimball, pointing to the coffin, said:  “There lies a woman who has given me forty-four wives.”

It is not the work of God that is frustrated, but the work of men:

You may not know it, but the phrase above comes from the inspired writings of Doctrine and Covenants. You will find that line of scripture in D&C 3:3.  It reads once again, “It is not the work of God that is frustrated, but the work of men.”

Jesus is the Only Way

By Melissa Grimes

I recently come upon this quote by Gordon B. Hinckley:

“Just as our Redeemer gave His life as a vicarious sacrifice for all men, and in so doing became our Savior, even so we, in a small measure, when we engage in proxy work in the temple, become as saviors to those on the other side who have no means of advancing unless something is done in their behalf by those on earth” (“Closing Remarks,” Ensign, November 2004, 105).

Contradictions in the Doctrine and Covenants

Today we’re wondering why the prophecy declared by Joseph Smith contradicts what has taken place in the Mormon Church.  As you’ll see from the text, God told Joseph that whoever performs or declares more than repentance and coming to Christ is not in obedience.

May 11 – Heb. 7:24, 27-8; “But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself. For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.”

Unequally Yoked

God is so good to us.  Just as a loving father takes his children by the hand to cross the street our Father in heaven tells us what is safe in life by providing us with His word.  All He ever wants is to love us and in so doing provides the way for us to be living life the way He intended for it to be.

Inspired of God?  Difficulties in the Book of Mormon

“All scripturei s given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” 2 Timothy 3:16.

The key word here is inspiration.  This word in the Greek is theopneustos.  It means God breathed.  Look anywhere in the Bible, there is nothing in it that contradicts itself, there are no mistakes, and it is all one hundred percent perfect! Archaeologists will sometimes use the Bible to search for the spots they want to investigate.  There are hundreds of documents which prove the Bible to be true, from Josephus of the first century to the Dead Sea Scrolls.  Each time they find something new, it validates what the Bible says!

Jesus of the Bible and Jesus in Mormonism; Not the Same Christ

The week after Thanksgiving is always the same for our family.   We always find ourselves basking in the joy of having full tummies of good food and warm fellowship with other Christians.  The “busy season” is upon us as we rush to the umpteenth performance of our children’s rendition of Pachelbel Canon at the local schools and clap wildly just like we did the first time we heard it.

Full tummies and scratchy orchestra performances are the blessings making our lives joyful, while knowing they are from the one and only God.  With that in mind let us turn our attention to the greatness of our Lord, our God and Savior, Christ Jesus; let us pause for a moment and think upon nothing and no one, save Him only.
