History of The Church 6:306 – 307; “When you climb up a ladder, you must begin at the bottom, and ascend step by step, until you arrive at the top; and so it is with the principles of the gospel—you must begin with the first, and go on until you learn all the principles of exaltation. But it will be a great while after you have passed through the veil before you will have learned them. It is not all to be comprehended in this world; it will be a great work to learn our salvation and exaltation even beyond the grave. I suppose I am not allowed to go into an investigation of anything that is not contained in the Bible. If I do, I think there are so many over-wise men here that they would cry “treason” and put me to death. So I will go to the old Bible and turn commentator today.” – Joseph Smith

A few weeks ago we posted an article about the Garden Endowment Ceremony and asked a few questions about their version of events when Adam and Eve partook of the fruit in the Garden of Eden.
Today we’re looking at the spiritual meaning of the next scene in the ceremony by digging into God’s word and comparing it with the Church’s portrayal of Adam and Eve trying to hide their nakedness.

‘Marriage for Eternity,’ Eternal Marriage Student Manual, (2003), p 173; “It is the normal thing to marry. It was arranged by God in the beginning. One is not wholly normal who does not want to be married. Remember: “Neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord.” [1 Corinthians 11:11]
No one can reject this covenant (of celestial marriage) and reach the eternal kingdom of God. ” – Spencer W. Kimball

Ensign, December 2013, p 7; “As we come to understand more fully what it means for Jesus to be the Only Begotten Son of the Father, our faith in Christ will increase. Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said, “Faith in Jesus Christ is the conviction and assurance of (1) His status as the Only Begotten Son of God, (2) His infinite Atonement, and (3) His literal Resurrection.” 2 Modern prophets have testified: “[Jesus Christ] was … the Only Begotten Son in the flesh, the Redeemer of the world.” 3”

Zechariah 11:7; “And I will feed the flock of slaughter, even you, O poor of the flock. And I took unto me two staves; the one I called Beauty, and the other I called Bands; and I fed the flock.”
Matthew 9:35-36; “And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. 36 ¶ But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.”

The Millennial Star, Vol. 15, No. 51, December 17, 1853, p 825; “. . .we apprehend that even greater troubles than these may arise before mankind learn all the particulars of Christ’s incarnation-how and by whom he was begotten; the character of the relationships formed by the act; the number of wives and children he had and all other circumstances with which he was connected, and by which he was tried and tempted in all things like unto man…”

I found today’s dilemma online at a website called ‘LDS Pamphlet Library’. While the purpose of this site is self explanatory what I found interesting is the mindset of the site’s owner and how or why he chose which LDS pamphlet to list on his site.
It’s easy to see the adoration most members hold for Joseph Smith and this example is no different. One of the pamphlets listed on this site was an outright slobber-fest for the wonderful ways Joe Smith led people into worshiping a false god.

In early November 2014 the LDS Church released another essay and this time around the subject matter focuses on the Church’s 1890 Manifesto.
I guess the season to be thankful for God’s blessings includes being thankful for the numerous ways someone can spin a story and garner sympathy from the unsuspecting.

General Conference, ‘Daughters in the Covenant,’ April 2014; “It is our free choice whether we make and keep those covenants. Only a few of His daughters have the opportunity in this life to even learn of those covenants. You are one of the favored few. You dear sisters, each of you is a daughter in the covenant.” – Henry B Erying

“The Fullness
of the Gospel”; “The Book of Mormon contains the most lucid and complete explanation of the atonement of Christ and therefore clearly qualifies as containing the fulness of the gospel. Of particular importance in explaining the atonement are chapters 2 and 9 of 2 Nephi, Mosiah 15, and chapters 34 and 42 of Alma.” – John A. Tvedtnes [emp. mine]

John 8:31-32; “Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

Here’s our 2nd list of 1,000+ Reasons to Leave Mormonism, aka, Mormon Quotes/Dilemmas! Because I can’t/won’t publish these things without qualifying the reason why, allow me to explain.
First and foremost, I do this because I believe it’s important everyone has access to truth. You deserve and need to know the truth before you invest yourself in something as important as your salvation!

For the past several weeks Melissa and I have been organizing all the Mormon quotes we publish each day to make it easier to retrieve the info you (and we) need. Don’t ask why I didn’t think of this beforehand…
As I was alphabetizing all these things I came across two very conflicting statements put out by the Church. They stood out like a sore thumb and once again reminded me of the confusion I always felt when I was Mormon.

Journal of Discourses 14:115-117; “As for the Bible account of the creation we may say that the Lord gave it to Moses, or that Moses obtained the history and traditions of the fathers, and from them picked out what he considered necessary, and that account has been handed down from age to age, and we have got it, no matter whether it is correct or not, and whether the Lord found the earth empty or void, or whether he made it out of nothing or out of the rude elements; or whether he made it in six years or in as many millions of years, it will remain a matter of speculation in the minds of men unless he give revelation on the subject.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, May 14, 1871

History of the Church 5:335; “I am not so much a “Christian” as many suppose I am. When a man undertakes to ride me for a horse, I feel disposed to kick up and throw him off, and ride him. David did so, and so did Joshua. My only weapon is my tongue. I would not buy property in Iowa territory: I consider it stooping to accept it as a gift.” – Joseph Smith, April 6, 1843
