Conference Report, April 1943, p. 39 “These are trying days, in which Satan rages, at home and abroad, hard days, evil and ugly days. We stand helpless as it seems before them. We need help. We need strength. We need guidance. Perhaps if we would do our work in behalf of those of the unseen world who hunger and pray for the work we can do for them, the unseen world would in return give us help in this day of our urgent need. There are more in the other world than there are here. There is more power and strength there than we have upon this earth. We have but a trifle, and that trifle is taken from the immeasurable power of God.” — John A. Widtsoe

March 29 – Power. Hebrews 7:26-28 “For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; 27 Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself. 28 For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.”

If Christians are anti-Mormon, are Mormons anti-Christian?

We posted this in 2012, and still haven’t seen anything from the Church denouncing the things they’ve taught on their feelings about Christianity. Below is our original post –

I signed up for Google-Alerts a few years back so I could get a heads up on top Mormon issues every day.

Now every morning when I download e-mails I keep seeing reports throughout the world of “anti-Mormons” doing this or that and how they’re out to get those un-offending Mormon people.

Job 31:15 “Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?”

Being raised in Utah Mormonism affords a person many experiences of being taught things that aren’t necessarily standard LDS doctrine. Today we’re looking at one of those.

A few weeks ago I came across a copy of the LDS General Handbook Vol. 1, originally provided by the Mormon version of WikiLeaks. This book serves as another reminder of how the Church goes out of its way to confuse people.a

As many of our readers know, our daughter Mallory was stillborn in October 1988. With that in mind, I’m obviously interested in what the Church’s thoughts are on this topic. What caught my attention in this go-round was the major contradiction they serve up as official doctrine.

Not only did they contradict themselves in what they believe about stillbirths, they also left those who are affected by the tragedy with absolutely no hope. Check out what they’ve said in the Handbook, and what Brigham Young said about babies. (more…)

Journal of Discourses 12:312 “Our sisters need not be worried about any doctrine. Brother Penrose said it would be better for them if they believed in the doctrine of polygamy. But they do believe it; they know it is true, and that is their torment. It perplexes and annoys many of them, because they are not sanctified by the spirit of it; if they were there would be no trouble. I want to say this much—the sisters do believe it.” – Brigham Young, Old Tabernacle Salt Lake City, November 29, 1868

Why I Believe the Book of Mormon to be the Word of God, pp. 4-5 “Now, once we become thoroughly convinced that the Book of Mormon is true, it will, as I have said solve any theological problem that may confront us. Do we want knowledge concerning God, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost? We can get it in the Book of Mormon. Would we know concerning the pre-existence of spirits – the fall of man and the atonement – the principles and ordinances of the Gospel of Christ – the state in which spirits of men live between the time of death and the resurrection – we can find it in the Book of Mormon.” — William A. Morton, 1918 (more…)
