Genesis 26:2-5 “And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of: 3 Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father; 4 And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; 5 Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.”

Doctrines of Salvation 2:188APOSTATE CHURCH AND SALVATION FOR DEAD. They have in the Catholic Church the doctrine of indulgences…They sold these indulgences. That is one of the main things that took Martin Luther out of the Catholic Church. He began to realize that the practice was wrong; it was not possible, not just or right for a person to sell forgiveness of sins for a price, either before or after the sin…

In the Catholic Church they offer prayers for the dead to get them out of purgatory. And people pay the priests to pray for the dead. Now that is a corruption of the doctrine of salvation for the dead.” — Joseph Fielding Smith, 1955 (more…)

Journal of Discourses 4:76-77 “We have in our community the worst creatures that the world can produce; the Gospel net must gather them of necessity, or the saying of Jesus, and what he knew of the kingdom in the last day would not come to pass. There are as bad men and women within the pales of this Church as there are upon this earth, and the Gospel being preached to them prepares them to become devils. As you have frequently been told, that is the only way men can become devils…” — Brigham Young, Great Salt Lake, November 9, 1856 (more…)

Journal of Discourses 15:279 “There never was a more infidel generation of Christians on the face of the earth than there is to-day. They do not expect that God will do anything in a temporal point of view towards the fulfillment of his promises; they are not looking forward for the establishment of his kingdom, or for the building up of his Zion on the earth. Their eyes are closed to these things, because they have rejected the light.

When Joseph Smith brought this Gospel to the world, there was a great deal more faith in God, a great deal more faith in his revelations, and, according to the light they had, a great deal more pure and undefiled religion than there is now. We have carried the Gospel to all Christian nations who would permit us, and they have rejected it, and they are under condemnation.”  — Wilford Woodruff, Salt Lake City, January 12, 1873 (more…)

Journal of Discourses 13:178 “We are His sons and daughters naturally, and by the principles of eternal life. We are brethren and sisters. What is it that makes the distinctions we see in the classes of the children of men?

We see the low and the degraded, like the aborigines of our country; what is the cause of their being in their present condition? It is because of the rejection by their fathers of the Gospel of the Son of God. The Gospel brings intelligence, happiness, and glory to all who obey it and live according to its precepts. It will give them intelligence that comes from God. Their minds will be open so as to understand things as they are…” — Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, May 29, 1870 (more…)

Jesus Christ: The Source of Enduring Joy “From a devotional address, “That They Might Have Joy,” delivered at Brigham Young University on December 4, 2018. …

Since becoming president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, President Russell M. Nelson frequently has extended an invitation to the people of the world that includes the promise of joy: “Our message to the world is simple and sincere: we invite all of God’s children on both sides of the veil to come unto their Savior, receive the blessings of the holy temple, have enduring joy, and qualify for eternal life.”6” — David Bednar

See Russell M. Nelson, “Let Us All Press On,” Liahona, May 2018, 118–19 for Mr. Bednar’s reference. (more…)

“Joseph Smith as an Administrator,” Gary Dean Guthrie, Master’s Thesis, Brigham Young University, May 1969, p. 161 “Joseph tested the Saints to make sure their testimonies were of his religion and not of him as a personable leader Amasa Lyman, of the First Presidency, related:

‘Joseph Smith tried the faith of the Saints many times by his peculiarities. At one time, he had preached a powerful sermon on the Word of Wisdom, and immediately thereafter, he rode through the streets of Nauvoo smoking a cigar. Some of the brethren were tried as was Abraham of old.'”

Journal of Discourses 6:345-346 “Some would have us believe that God is present everywhere. It is not so. He is no more everywhere present in person than the Father and Son are one in person. The Bible teaches that doctrine precisely as it is.

The kingdom that the Almighty will set up in the latter days will have its officers, and those officers will be peace. Every man that officiates in a public capacity will be filled with the Spirit of God…” — Brigham Young, Great Salt Lake City, July 31, 1859 (more…)

Teachings of Ezra Taft Benson, pp. 89-90 “Not only are there apostates within our midst, but there are also apostate doctrines that are sometimes taught in our classes and from our pulpits and that appear in our publications. And these apostate precepts of men cause our people to stumble. As the Book of Mormon, speaking of our day, states: ‘They have all gone astray save it be a few, who are the humble followers of Christ; nevertheless, they are led, that in many instances they do err because they are taught by the precepts of men’ (2 Nephi 28:14).” — Ezra Taft Benson, 1988 (more…)

Man, His Origin and Destiny, p. 315 “There are thousands of miracles performed today, wonders that would astound our grandfathers could they suddenly see them. These miracles are as great as turning water into wine, raising the dead or anything else. A miracle is not, as many believe, the setting aside or overruling natural laws. Every miracle performed in Biblical days or now, is done on natural principles and in obedience to natural law. The healing of the sick, the raising of the dead, giving eyesight to the blind, whatever it may be that is done by the power of God, is in accordance with natural law. Because we do not understand how it is done, does not argue for the impossibility of it.” — Joseph Fielding Smith, 1954  [This is on p. 484 in non-electronic format.] (more…)

As an FYI, in updating some of our articles, I was reminded of this one that’s always been one of my favs. We pray members of the Church will take notice as they build their to-do lists during the holidays.

Jesus is the Only Way

By Melissa Grimes

I recently come upon this quote by Gordon B. Hinckley:

“Just as our Redeemer gave His life as a vicarious sacrifice for all men, and in so doing became our Savior, even so we, in a small measure, when we engage in proxy work in the temple, become as saviors to those on the other side who have no means of advancing unless something is done in their behalf by those on earth” (“Closing Remarks,” Ensign, November 2004, 105).

The idea that we have the power to save someone, in the eternal sense is blasphemy. We don’t have the power to do that, only Jesus does. You don’t need someone to do Masonic temple rituals for you in the LDS temple.

November 4 – The State of Christianity and Mormon Lies. Jude 1:3-4 “Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. 4 For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Discourses of Brigham Young, p. 674 “When the Kingdom of God is fully set up and established on the face of the earth, and takes the preeminence over all other nations and kingdoms, it will protect the people in the enjoyment of all their rights, no matter what they believe, what they profess, or what they worship. If they wish to worship a god of their own workmanship, instead of the true and living God, all right, if they will mind their own business and let other people alone. 2:310.” — Great Salt Lake City, July 8, 1855 (more…)

Today we’re taking a look at what the LDS Church has peddled at doorsteps around the world. It’d be laughable if not for the untold tragedies left in its wake.

If you’re LDS, we pray the info here gives you pause. Ask yourself why there are so many variations to Joseph Smith’s story that came straight from Smith himself. These aren’t made up ‘anti-Mormon’ stories, rather, these are firsthand accounts of what he said happened in a grove of trees.

If someone showed up on your doorstep with so many contradictions about a major life event, would  you believe them?

When I was a member  of the Church I always thought I was just confused again, or mistaken about things I was taught. After I left, I realized I had a pretty good memory after all…

The following synopsis of events is so confusing it’d make the most confident person stop, and wonder what they just read. It’s amazing they have young folks barely out of puberty, telling the oft repeated story of another youngster in a grove of trees. (more…)

Journal of Discourses 5:256-258 “As to the world’s being in fellowship with us, it never was and it never can be. We cut off the Gentiles just before we left Nauvoo; and they have cut us off from their fellowship. The thread is cut that has hitherto connected us; and now we have to act for ourselves and build up the kingdom of God on the earth, which we will do, by the help of the Lord; for he has decreed that his kingdom shall take the ascendancy over all other kingdoms under heaven.

Today we’re looking at a couple of sermons Brigham delivered over a 4 month period of time. I noticed the discrepancies while working on another project several months ago.

Journal of Discourses 4:54We are of the earth, earthy; and our Father is heavenly and pure. But we will be glorified and purified, if we obey our brethren and the teachings which are given.” — Brigham Young, Great Salt Lake City, September 21, 1856

  • 1 Corinthians 15:47 ‘The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.’
  • Romans 8:30 “Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.”
