Mormon Decisions 10Journal of Discourses 8:207-209; “If we yield ourselves servants to obey the principles that hold us in existence, it gives to us our exaltation, andBrigham Young glorifies us with the Gods, and puts all things under our feet. What a glorious law that is! There is nothing here, except the sin within us, that repels this law. Trample every feeling that is opposed to this law under your feet…

Many of the sisters grieve because they are not blessed with offspring. You will see the time when you will have millions of children around you. If you are faithful to your covenants, you will become mothers of nations. You will become Eves to earths like this; and when you have assisted in peopling one earth there are millions of earths still in the course of creation.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, October 14, 1860

Mormon Decisions 10Journal of Discourses 8:58; “And I will say, as I have said before, if guilt before my God and my brethren rests upon me in the least, it is in this oneBrigham Young thing, that I have revealed too much concerning God and his kingdom, and the designs of our Father in heaven. If my skirts are stained in the least with wrong, it is because I have been too free in telling who God is, how he lives, the nature of his providences and designs in creating the world, in bringing the human family on the earth, his designs concerning them, etc. If I had, like Paul, said — “But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant,” perhaps it would have been better for the people.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, June 27, 1860

Mormon Decisions 10Journal of Wilford Woodruff v. 8 p 187; “Evening Meeting. Prayer By E Stephenson. Joseph F Smith spoke One hour & 25 M. He spoke upon the Marriage in Cana at Galilee. He thought Jesus was the Bridgegroom andWilford Woodruff 2 Mary & Martha the brides. He also refered to Luke 10 ch. 38 to 42 verse, Also John 11 ch. 2 & 5 vers John 12 Ch 3d vers, John 20 8 to 18. Joseph Smith spoke upon these passages to show that Mary & Martha manifested much Closer relationship than Merely A Believer which looks Consistet. He did not think that Jesus who decended throug Poligamous families from Abraham down & who fulfilled all the Law even baptism by immersion would have lived and died without being married.” – [spelling in the original]

Mormon Decisions 10Gospel Doctrine, p. 272; “The house of the Lord is a house of order and not a house of confusion; and that means that the man is not without theJoseph F. Smith woman in the Lord, neither is the woman without the man in the Lord; and that no man can be saved and exalted in the kingdom of God without the woman, and no woman can reach the perfection and exaltation in the kingdom of God alone. That is what it means.” – Joseph F. Smith

Mormon Decisions 10Journal of Discourses 25:327-382; “Now let it be known throughout all Israel, as the word of the Lord to us for the present, through His servant who stands at the head, that a man who commits adultery, a man who has had his endowments, cannot be baptized again into the Church. Let it be known throughout all Israel, as the word of God through His servant, who stands at the head, that a man who has had his endowments and commitsCannon George Q whoredom, cannot now be received into the Church again. These must be cut off; because the law that was given in the early days of the Church concerning a man committing adultery once and being received back into the Church does not apply today. There has been a higher law since then, namely, the endowments, and men have taken upon themselves, and women also, sacred obligations in holy places. Therefore, hear it and understand it.” — George Q. Cannon, Salt Lake City, October 6-7, 1884

Mormon Decisions 10Journal of Discourses 14:244-245; “Perhaps you may think that Brother Pratt is rather enthusiastic and fanatical in his ideas to suppose thatOrson Pratt immortal beings can multiply; but I would ask any person who has read the first and second chapters of Genesis if the command which was first given to multiply was not given to two immortal beings who had not yet fallen? If, therefore, two immortal beings, were then commanded to multiply, why should it be thought incredible that immortal beings who are raised from the grave and restored to all that which Adam and his wife possessed before the Fall, should have the power to do the same?” — Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, August 20, 1871

LiahonMormon Decisions 10a, “The Living Prophets,” April 2015; ““The living prophet is more important to us than a dead prophet. …

“… God’s revelation to Adam did not instruct Noah how to build the Ark. Noah needed his own revelation. Therefore, the most important prophet, so far as you and I are concerned, is the one living in our day and age to whom the LordEzra Taft Benson 2 is currently revealing His will for us. Therefore, the most important reading we can do is any of the words of the prophet … contained each month in our Church magazines. Our marching orders for each six months are found in the general conference addresses, which are printed in the [Liahona]magazine. …“

Mormon Decisions 10Gospel Doctrine, Chapter 25, p. 480; “THE PROPHET JOSEPH SMITH. Brother Woodruff, in the course of his remarks, made the assertion that Joseph Smith was the greatest prophet that has ever lived, of whom we have any knowledge, save and except Jesus Christ himself…Today there is not another man, perhaps, who has figured in religion, whose name is so wide-spread among the nations, as that of Joseph Smith.” – Joseph F. Mormon Decisions 10Joseph Smith: The Choice Seer, Chapter 25; “Revelation, the Prophet taught, was to be immediate and personal. We have no right, he explained, to lay claim to promises made to another people in another time. As their curses are not our curses, so their promises are not our promises (see Ibid., p. 12). “Reading the experience of others, or the revelations given to them, can never give us a comprehensive view of our condition and true relation to God. Knowledge of these things can only be obtained by experience through the ordinances of God set forth for that purpose. Could you gaze into heaven five minutes, you would know more than you would by reading all that ever was written on the subject.” (Ibid., p. 324; emphasis in original.)” – Joseph Fielding McConkie, Also see Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 324

Mormon Decisions 10Teachings of Ezra Taft Benson, p 89-90; “Not only are there apostates within our midst, but there are also apostate doctrines that are sometimes taught in our classes and from our pulpits and that appear in our publications. And these apostate precepts of men cause our people to stumble. As the Book of Mormon, speaking of our day, states: ‘They have all gone astray save it be a few, who are the humble followers of Christ; nevertheless, they are led, that in many instances they do err because they are taught by the precepts of men’ (2 Nephi 28:14).” — Ezra Taft Benson

p1000745.jpgJoseph Smith claimed mankind now had the fullness of the gospel with the advent of the Book of Mormon being published. What he didn’t say is that his claim was nothing but a lie.  The most important elements of salvation for the Mormon can’t be found between the covers of the Book of Mormon. To find those all important teachings you’ll have to look elsewhere starting in the Doctrine and Covenants, Ensign (aka Journal of Discourses), General Conferences, Pearl of Great Price, etc.

The Book of Mormon has proven itself to be a feel good story of a people group who supposedly lived in the Americas more than 1,600 years ago. This serves members the comfort of having great warriors like King David in the Bible, but has no other purpose to guide a Mormon in the steps he or she must take to ensure they’ll spend eternity with God.

1 Corinthians 2:14; “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”

Liahona January 2015 1A few weeks ago I noticed an article in the Church’s Newsroom announcements saying they broke a record for the number of times people downloaded talks for General Conferences. The reason it caught my attention is because I’ve seen a record number of downloads for our articles on this General Conference as well and then I began to wonder why…

Mormon Decisions 10Gospel Doctrine, p 179; “NO NEED TO POINT OUT DEFECTS OF CHURCH LEADERS…I do not think it is my right or prerogative to point out the supposed defects of the Prophet Joseph Smith, or Brigham Young, or any other of the leaders of the Church. Let the Lord God Almighty judge them and speak for or against them as it may seem to him good—but not me; it is not for me, my brethren, to do this. Our enemies may have taken advantage of us, in times gone by, because of unwise things that may have been said. Some of us may now give to the world the same opportunity to speak evil against us, because of that which we say, which should not be spoken at all.—Oct. C. R., 1909, pp. 124-125.” – Joseph F. Smith

‘Uncle’ John Smith Intro

July 16, 1781 – May 23, 1854

Leviticus 18:6; “None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness: I am the LORD.”

Early Mormon PolygamistsEveryone in life leaves an indelible mark on this earth whether they’re here for an hour, a decade, or century. Even though we may not we like to admit it, in the majority of cases, the legacies we leave behind are up to us individually.

The life of John Smith, affectionately known as ‘Uncle John’ by family members, is a good example of someone who isn’t known for living an exemplary life by setting a high standard to live by. Rather, this man’s legacy can be marked by the company he kept.
