October 31 — What goes through your mind when you see this picture and read its accompanying quote?

“Our ancestors need us as we need them. There are many yet waiting to be found and taken to the temple for their sacred linking ordinances to be fulfilled.” Beki Tobiasson

October 31 — Doctrines of Salvation 3:48 “NO PEACE AGAIN UNTIL CHRIST COMES. Peace has been taken from the earth, and it will not return until Christ comes to bring it.

When that day arrives, he has promised to “send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity…”” — Joseph Fielding Smith (more…)

October 30 — D&C 42:6 “And ye shall go forth in the power of my Spirit, preaching my gospel, two by two, in my name, lifting up your voices as with the sound of a trump, declaring my word like unto angels of God.” – February 9, 1831 (more…)

October 29 — General Conference, ‘Healing the Tragic Scars of Abuse’, April 1992 “The victim must do all in his or her power to stop the abuse. Most often, the victim is innocent because of being disabled by fear or the power or authority of the offender. At some point in time, however, the Lord may prompt a victim to recognize a degree of responsibility for abuse. Your priesthood leader will help assess your responsibility so that, if needed, it can be addressed. Otherwise the seeds of guilt will remain and sprout into bitter fruit. Yet no matter what degree of responsibility, from absolutely none to increasing consent, the healing power of the atonement of Jesus Christ can provide a complete cure.” – Apostle Richard G Scott (more…)

October 28 — He got one right!!! It’s not very often I get to report on finding a prophecy of Joseph Smith that he got right, but today I found one. As I was researching quotes of Joseph Smith, I came across the prophecy he gave in Doctrines and Covenants.

D&C 3:4 “For although a man may have many revelations, and have power to do many mighty works, yet if he boasts in his own strength, and sets at naught the counsels of God, and follows after the dictates of his own will and carnal desires, he must fall and incur the vengeance of a just God upon him.”

Joseph gave that prophecy in Harmony, Pennsylvania in July 1828. (more…)

October 27 — Today we’re using short quotes from two GC talks.

1.The first one comes from a talk by Elder Gary E. Stevenson: ‘Blessed Are the Peacemakers’. This man told people that in order to be true peacemakers they should temper anything they say online or otherwise with love. Long story short treat others as a child of God. (more…)

October 21 — Sister J. Anette Dennis: ‘Cheering Each Other On’, “…Commit now to always help and encourage others. For those struggling: “Please don’t lose hope. Please keep going. Please stay. You do belong. The Lord needs you, and we need you.” (more…)

October 20 — Ensign, ‘The Love of God,’ November 2009 “We are created in the image of our heavenly parents; we are God’s spirit children. Therefore, we have a vast capacity for love—it is part of our spiritual heritage. What and how we love not only defines us as individuals; it also defines us as a church. Love is the defining characteristic of a disciple of Christ.” — Dieter F. Uchtdorf (more…)

October 19 — Today we’re looking at part of a talk Jeffrey Holland gave at General Conference. We found no less than eight major problems. You can find the part we’re looking at on the Church’s News Room site at Elder Jeffrey R. Holland: ‘And Now I See’. To read his talk in full see General Conference, ‘And Now I See,’ October 2025.

1.Jesus Christ’s healing of a blind man in John 9 was evidence of God’s power.

Mr. Holland was right. It’s a shame he lies to people that Jesus had this power because He is God. (more…)

October 18 — Couched in a string of ads and General Conference articles was an announcement by Elder Quentin Cook. He told everyone their god needs help with the 900,000 new converts and returning members they had acquired in the past 36 months. To read his note see Messages on belonging from October 2025 general conference Saturday sessions.

Our question today is something we’ve asked many times before. (more…)

October 16 — A couple of days ago we looked at two things Dallin Oaks said during his tenure as an LDS apostle.

Yesterday we all woke up to the news that he is now the 18th Prophet/President of the LDS Church.

It seems odd that someone would be called a prophet/president of a church. I’ve searched but haven’t found anything in the Bible that remotely suggests such a thing. (more…)

“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.” 1 Thessalonians 5:21

October 14 — Today we’re looking at two things the new LDS prophet/president Dallin Oaks has said in the past to give readers a clear understanding of where this guy is coming from.

The first thing listed is how Oaks said it was wrong to criticize leaders. This is cult behavior. Not questioning something means they’re attempting to dumb down believers and guilting them into not questioning anything they hear or read. (more…)

October 11 — Today we have a few questions about the talk given by Mr. Dallin Oaks at this last GC.

1.Why is the Church’s doctrine center on the family and not Jesus?

2.Why was Oaks so quick to announce there wouldn’t be any new temples? We have to wonder what was going on behind the scene… See President Oaks: ‘We will not announce any new temples at this conference’. (more…)

October 10 — This is the time of year when many people celebrate Halloween. Children, both young and old, will dress up in costumes and go door-to-door to ask for candy. For most people, this may sound like harmless fun. Others want nothing to do with the holiday and choose to keep their children at home for the night and keep their porch lights turned off. (more…)

October 9 — We’ve pulled a handful of talks from the October GC and have a question for each of them. We pray that you’ll share these with a Mormon. If you’re LDS, please know that we ask from a deep concern for you personally and never out of animosity.

1.The Atoning Love of Jesus Christ “…beyond this mortal life, in our Father’s house, we will live with Him forever and ever. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.” — Elder Neil L. Andersen (more…)

October 5 — Today we’re taking a quick look at three talks given at the October conference that we thought were noteworthy.

1.Mr. Gong reminded people to be nice to others and not let them sit alone during church service while using a fortune cookie in his presentation. To read his talk see Elder Gerrit W. Gong: ‘No One Sits Alone’. (more…)

October 3 — Journal of Discourses 11:232 “In speaking about apostacy, it is a remarkable feature connected with it and with those who favor apostates and consort with them that they are filled with the spirit of fear. It can be truthfully said of the Latter-day Saints, that they are a fearless people. Even our enemies give us credit for this—that in the midst of dangers and difficulties we are undisturbed and not easily appalled. But there is this peculiarity connected with apostacy and apostates, and with those who consort with and favor them: they are continually in dread of some impending danger—some evil that is about to be perpetrated upon them by the Latter-day Saints…It is only when a man does that which is wrong that he receives the spirit of fear.” — George Q. Cannon, May 6, 1866 (more…)

October 2 — Today I watched a video of a Christian podcaster who wore a t-shirt that said, “Think Biblically.” It made me think of Russel M. Nelson’s famous quote, “Think Celestial.”  What does it really mean, and how does it contrast with the other quote I mentioned to “Think Biblically”? (more…)

October 1 — On LDS Daily, an article was written as a prep guide to help church members get ready for General Conference. Preparing for General Conference sounds a lot like preparing to watch the Super Bowl. They have to prepare their snacks, make sure they have the correct channel and broadcast times. They have to think about the meals they’re going to have and what they’re going to wear. Will they dress up like they’re going to church? (more…)
