October 2 — Translating the Book of Mormon w/ Hats & Stones. Ensign, “A Treasured Testament”, July 1993, p. 61 “The details of this miraculous method of translation are still not fully known. Yet we do have a few precious insights. David Whitmer wrote: “Joseph Smith would put the seer stone into a hat, and put his face in the hat, drawing it closely around his face to exclude the light; and in the darkness the spiritual light would shine. A piece of something resembling parchment would appear, and on that appeared the writing. One character at a time would appear, and under it was the interpretation in English. Brother Joseph would read off the English to Oliver Cowdery, who was his principal scribe, and when it was written down and repeated to Brother Joseph to see if it was correct, then it would disappear, and another character with the interpretation would appear. Thus the Book of Mormon was translated by the gift and power of God, and not by any power of man.” (David Whitmer, An Address to All Believers in Christ, Richmond, Mo.: n.p., 1887, p. 12.)” – Russell M. Nelson (more…)

September 26 — Angels Move Treasures of the Earth. Journal of Discourses 19:36-37 “These treasures that are in the earth are carefully watched, they can be removed from place to place according to the good pleasure of Him who made them and owns them. He has his messengers at his service, and it is just as easy for an angel to remove the minerals from any part of these mountains to another, as it is for you and me to walk up and down this hall.” – Brigham Young, Farmington, June 17, 1877 (more…)

Spirit of Man Sexually Begotten by Heavenly Father

September 25 — Prophets Contradictions on Creation of Man. Latter-day Prophets Speak: Selections from the Sermons and Writings of Church Presidents, Book 5 “There is not a person here today but what is a son or a daughter of that Being. In the spirit world their spirits were first begotten and brought forth, and they lived there with their parents for ages before they came here. This, perhaps, is hard for many to believe, but it is the greatest nonsense in the world not to believe it. If you do not believe it, cease to call Him Father; and when you pray, pray to some other character. – Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses 4:216, February 8, 1857” (more…)

September 22 — Earth Fell into Universe When Adam Fell. Ensign, ‘The Book of Abraham: A Most Remarkable Book’, March 1997 “According to President Brigham Young, Abraham 5:13 [Abr. 5:13] also means that before the Fall of Adam, the earth was near the very throne of God. But when the Fall occurred, the earth literally fell or moved from the physical presence of God to its present position in our solar system. When all the effects of the Fall of Adam are finally overcome, the earth will literally move back into the presence of God.” – Andrew Skinner (more…)

September 19 — Joseph Smith Gave His Life. Ensign, ‘Joseph Smith among the Prophets’, June 1994 “The life of Joseph Smith was in some degree patterned after that of the Master, Jesus Christ. That pattern holds true even when extended to its tragic conclusion. Like his Master, Joseph Smith also shed his blood in order that the final testament, the reestablishment of the new convenat [sic], might be in full effect.” – Robert Millet (more…)

September 18 — Mormonism is Leaven to Christian Churches of Today. Teachings of Lorenzo Snow, p. 16 “Mormonism has acted as a leaven upon other religious faiths. Consciously or unconsciously they have absorbed and utilized it. This is especially manifest in the growth of liberal ideas among the Protestant churches within the last half century. (2 January 1902, MS, 64:22.)” (more…)

Joseph Smith-Seeker After Truth, pp. 177-178 “The meanest sinner will find some place in the heavenly realm…In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, there is no Hell. ‘These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.’ —  Acts 17:11

September 4 — LDS Prophet is Sole Mouthpiece for God. Follow the Living Prophets, p. 40 “Here we must have in mind-must know-that only the President of the Church, the Presiding High Priest, is sustained as Prophet, Seer, and Revelator for the Church, and he alone has the right to receive revelations for the Church, either new or amendatory, or to give authoritative interpretations of scriptures that shall be binding on the Church, or change in any way the existing doctrines of the Church. He is God’s sole mouthpiece on earth for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the only true church. He alone may declare the mind and will of God to his people. No officer of any other church in the world has this high right and lofty prerogative. So when any other person, irrespective of who he is, undertakes to do any of these things, you may know he is not “moved upon by the Holy Ghost” in so speaking unless he has special authorization from the President of the Church. (“When Are Church Leaders’ Words Entitled to Claim of Scripture?” p. 10.)” – Walter D. Bowen, Brent L. Top, Larry E. Dahl (more…)

August 26 — Mormon Salvation by Grace is a Lie. Ensign, ‘What Think Ye of Christ?’, November 1988, p. 65 “Man unquestionably has impressive powers… But after all our obedience and good works, we cannot be saved from the effects of our sins without the grace extended by the atonement of Jesus Christ… Man cannot earn his own salvation.” — Dallin H. Oaks (more…)

August 25 — Denial of Polygamy Means No Salvation. Journal of Discourses 3:266 “Now if any of you will deny the plurality of wives, and continue to do so, I promise that you will be damned; and I will go still further and say, take this revelation, or any other revelation that the Lord has given, and deny it in your feelings, and I promise that you will be damned.” – Brigham Young, Provo, July 14, 1855 (more…)

August 24 — Christians are Wicked Apostates, Murderers and Idolaters. The Seer, p. 205 “Q. After the Church of Christ fled from earth to heaven, what was left?

A set of wicked Apostates, murderers, and idolaters, who, after having made war with the saints, and overcome them, and destroyed them out of the earth, were left to follow the wicked imaginations of their own corrupt hearts, and to build up churches by human authority, and to follow after the cunning craftiness of uninspired men; having no Apostle, Prophet, or Revelator to inquire of God for them: and thus, because of wickedness, the Church, and Priesthood, and gifts, and ordinances and blessings of the everlasting Gospel, were taken from the earth, and reserved in heaven until the fulness of times, when it was predicted that they should again be restored among men to continue until the end should come.” – Orson Pratt (more…)

August 23 — Wafting Through Space as a God. Life of Heber C. Kimball, p. 513 “A man may become a God as Jesus Christ did. For this he must prepare himself while in the flesh, that he may be enthroned as a judge is enthroned. I have a desire that my children be crowned, and if I be enthroned I want to have the privilege of wafting myself by the power of God, to visit my children. Everything we see here is typical of what will be hereafter.” – Orson F. Whitney (more…)

Take Heed to Yourselves Joseph Fielding Smith

Take Heed to Yourselves, pp. 191-192 “…the man who seeks God and in the Spirit of truth, guided by the Spirit of truth, or the Comforter, and continues in God, will grow in knowledge, in light, in truth, until eventually there will come to him the perfect day of light and truth.

Now, we will not get all that in this life. It is impossible for a man to reach that goal in the few years of mortal existence. But what we learn here, that which is eternal, that which is inspired by the Spirit of truth, will continue with us beyond the grave and then we shall go on, if still continuing in God, to receive light and truth until eventually we shall come to that perfect day.” – Joseph Fielding Smith [emp. added]
