November 9 — Patriarchal Blessings and Tribe of Ephraim. 1 Nephi 14:1-2 “And it shall come to pass, that if the Gentiles shall hearken unto the Lamb of God in that day that he shall manifest himself unto them in word, and also in power, in very deed, unto the taking away of their stumbling blocks— 2 And harden not their hearts against the Lamb of God, they shall be numbered among the seed of thy father; yea, they shall be numbered among the house of Israel; and they shall be a blessed people upon the promised land forever; they shall be no more brought down into captivity; and the house of Israel shall no more be confounded.” (more…)

September 19 — Joseph Smith Gave His Life. Ensign, ‘Joseph Smith among the Prophets’, June 1994 “The life of Joseph Smith was in some degree patterned after that of the Master, Jesus Christ. That pattern holds true even when extended to its tragic conclusion. Like his Master, Joseph Smith also shed his blood in order that the final testament, the reestablishment of the new convenat [sic], might be in full effect.” – Robert Millet (more…)

August 19 — BoM Declares It May or May Not Be True. Matthew 8:26 “And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked.

Not only does the Book of Mormon contain anachronistic problems along with its plagiarism we also see contradictions within its own text. Sometimes the Book of Mormon will tell you it’s completely trustworthy and at other times,  not so much.

I’d never thought of our Bible verse today in light of the Mormon’s faith, or the lack thereof. That was until I read Oswald Chambers devotional for August 12th. Chambers mentioned we should all rest in the Lord (how true!), and resting in Him includes doing so even during the stormy times in life.

_____

When push comes to shove, we all have a major decision in life to make. Do we instinctively fall back on our heritage and culture, in which we were raised? Or do we brave the storm by resting in Him, even if our decisions will cause the ship to overturn? Many times when we make a major change, expecting an overturned boat, we find our decision caused it to turn upright, not knowing the mess we had been in all along.

Nowhere in the Bible do we see the ambiguity we read about in the Book of Mormon! God’s word encourages study, discernment, and proving it for your life.

However, as our text today says, Jesus also expected us to trust and rest in Him. If you’re LDS, how do you trust the canon Joe Smith said was from God, when it blatantly says it isn’t always true?

July 30 — BoM Believers Turned White. 3 Nephi 19:25 “And it came to pass that Jesus blessed them as they did pray unto him; and his countenance did smile upon them, and the light of his countenance did shine upon them, and behold they were as white as the countenance and also the garments of Jesus; and behold the whiteness thereof did exceed all the whiteness, yea, even there could be nothing upon earth so white as the whiteness thereof.” (more…)

May 28 — How was Jesus Baptized in 559 BC? Matthew 3:13-17 “Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. 14 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? 15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him. 16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” (more…)

May 22 – Joe Smith Plagiarized Paul. Galatians 1:6-8 “I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:  Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.”

3 Nephi 19:9 “And they did pray for that which they most desired; and they desired that the Holy Ghost should be given unto them.”

BC 559 – 545

2 Nephi 31:13-14 “Wherefore, my beloved brethren, I know that if ye shall follow the Son, with full purpose of heart, acting no hypocrisy and no deception before God, but with real intent, repenting of your sins, witnessing unto the Father that ye are willing to take upon you the name of Christ, by baptism—yea, by following your Lord and your Savior down into the water, according to his word, behold, then shall ye receive the Holy Ghost; yea, then cometh the baptism of fire and of the Holy Ghost; and then can ye speak with the tongue of angels, and shout praises unto the Holy One of Israel. 14 But, behold, my beloved brethren, thus came the voice of the Son unto me, saying: After ye have repented of your sins, and witnessed unto the Father that ye are willing to keep my commandments, by the baptism of water, and have received the baptism of fire and of the Holy Ghost, and can speak with a new tongue, yea, even with the tongue of angels, and after this should deny me, it would have been better for you that ye had not known me.”

January 23 – BoM: Filled with Lying Signs and Wonders. Deuteronomy 13:1-3 “If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder, 2 And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them; 3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.”

January 19 — Book of Joseph. Testing for Truth, Part 3 “Many people refuse to use the Bible as a standard for truth. They will often claim that the Bible is not trustworthy, after all, it’s thousands of years old, and it’s probably been corrupted over the years…

If someone claims that the Bible has been corrupted, they have immediately revealed themselves to be a false teacher. Consider this, why would God give us scripture as a means to test teachers, allow that scripture to become corrupted, and then send us another teacher, with no means to test him?

If God had allowed scriptures to become corrupted, and their meanings lost, then we would cease to have any way of knowing God’s truth. For even if after this supposed corruption God were to send a prophet to restore truth, how would we know that it is indeed truth, with no test, anything this prophet says is suspect.

If God were to allow scriptures to become corrupted, that would make it impossible for us to know when He speaks to us. There simply would be no way of knowing if a person is a true prophet of God, or a false prophet teaching doctrines of demons, as any conflict with scripture can simply be excused with the accusation of corruption.” (more…)
