Centennial Park

      Here we are in the twenty first century and still talking about polygamy.  On Tuesday, February 13, 2007, ABC aired a program called “The Outsiders”.  The focus was of course the polygamous community of Centennial Park, AZ that lies just two miles south of Colorado City, home to the infamous group of the Fundamental Latter-day Saints.

This particular group of polygamists wanted to make it clear that they are not part of the group in Colorado City.  They claim they don’t have the problems of child sexual abuse and forced marriages that seem to plague Warren Jeffs group; although they did admit to having bouts of jealousy towards each other.

     The main subjects of the interview focused on one young family within the clan.  ABC was invited into the 1,400 sq. ft. home of a husband with two wives and their nine children.  The polygamists wanted the world to see how they take care of their own and they portrayed this community effort of building an addition onto the home of the young family.

The husband, Ariel Hammon met both of his wives at school.  He was the math teacher for both when they were in school.  His first wife is now 30 years old and mother to seven of the children with another one on the way.  His second wife is 20 and mother to the remaining two children.  Mr. Hammon is roughly 35 years old.

     At one point during the interview the reporter, John Quinonez gathered a group of about 15 teenagers to ask them some questions.  He asked the girls what their dreams were for their lives.  One girl answered that she is praying to be just one of her future husband’s wives, yet she had no idea who it was that she’d want to marry.  She said that it was “up to the priesthood”.  When asked how she’d feel if he had a lot of wives, she answered by saying; “If he has six or seven wives, I’d accept that. The man is not ours. We are given to the man but we can’t claim him. So as many wives as he would want, he can have. As long as it’s what God wants.”  The young men in the group all claimed they had no problem with obeying the elders by having two to fifteen wives.  If that is what God wanted, then so be it.

     As I was watching the show it was so hard for me to sit still and keep my mouth shut as I listened to the lies they told and witnessed the obvious brain washing that has taken control of these beautiful people.  However, out of all the lies they told and keep telling to the next generation, I was also very grateful for the invention of television.  I’m not a big advocate for television, but there are times when God will use it for His purpose and I truly believe this is one of those times!  The news reporter gave a short blip about Joseph Smith’s teachings of polygamy, godhood and salvation.

     I would imagine that it’s incredibly difficult for the modern-day member of the LDS Church to reconcile the truth about Joseph Smith and the persona they are trying to portray in this, the twenty-first century.  Their latest push of wanting to be included into the “mainstream” body of Christ has to be a hard sale when the truth of their doctrine is a glaring reminder of why they don’t belong.  In contrast, the polygamist groups don’t feel the added pressure of wanting to fit in – they have purposefully kept themselves separated from the “secular world”.

     The husband that the show focused on, Ariel Hammon, admitted they do believe Jesus was a polygamist and that black people are the curse of Cain.

Moses 7:22; “And Enoch also beheld the residue of the people which were the sons of Adam; and they were a mixture of all the seed of Adam save it was the seed of Cain, for the seed of Cain were black, and had not place among them.”

  I don’t know if it’s true or not, but it was reported on this show that Mr. Hammon is the first person to admit to the teachings of Jesus being a polygamist and the curse of Cain.

     So for all those who write in to Life After Ministries and tell us we’re being sensationalistic, or that we’ve lied, you’ve now heard it from the “horse’s mouth” so to speak.  We haven’t pulled some obscure teaching out of the annals of the LDS Church’s history to twist things around; these are the basic tenets of Mormonism.

     The truth is Joseph Smith did teach that Jesus was a polygamist and Joseph Smith did in fact teach that black people are cursed.  Let us pray for these people!  Of course they also claimed that sex has absolutely nothing to do with polygamy, but we already know the truth to that story.  We’ll have more on these topics in the near future on our website so stay tuned.

     Mr. Hammon claimed the Bible commands polygamy to be practiced, but nowhere in the Bible have I ever seen such a commandment.  I’m certain that if he truly believes in the teachings of Joseph Smith he’d also claim the Bible isn’t translated correctly either.  How is it they can claim the Bible commands something if they don’t actually believe the Bible to be correct?

     While trying to portray the wonderful attributes of polygamy, the women of this particular group have gathered together to fight what they call the “injustices” they face because of their religion. They said that by living in America they should be able to worship the way they see fit without being persecuted.

They’ve dubbed themselves the Centennial Park Action Committee and have begun pushing their agenda for “religious tolerance”.  Following in their mother’s footsteps are the children of not only these multiple wives, but others as well who are speaking out, publicly demanding respect and tolerance from mainstream society in both Arizona and Utah.

     Funny, the term “tolerance” sounds eerily familiar when you listen to the groups that want same-sex marriages to be legalized.  Isn’t this also what the ACLU tries to impose upon the citizens of America today when they want the Ten Commandments ripped from all public buildings and when they fight to have Christmas trees taken down from airports like they did here in Seattle this past Christmas season?

     The mainstream LDS Church can claim they don’t believe these doctrines any longer, but in reality they still do.  The Doctrine and Covenants still contains section 132 which warns members they cannot be saved without having multiple wives and women will be damned if they reject it.

D&C 132:4; “For behold, I reveal unto you a new and an everlasting covenant; and if ye abide not that covenant, then are ye damned; for no one can reject this covenant and be permitted to enter into my glory.”  Also see D&C 132:51-56.

They still teach that you must be married in order to gain exaltation and they still teach they will become gods and goddesses someday with their own earths.  (D&C 132:19-20.)

     When you witness to a Mormon whether it be a missionary or a close friend or relative, they may try and tell you that they don’t personally believe in the section of D&C that commands polygamy.  If this is the case ask them if they’ve denounced Joseph Smith for their as well.  After all, the teachings mentioned here originated with none other than Smith himself.

Deut. 18:20-22 says that we are to disregard any prophet who gives a false prophecy.

  Because the “everlasting covenant” of having multiple wives was outlawed by the US government and subsequently abandoned by the mainstream LDS Church, it can’t possibly be qualified as everlasting, but qualifies as a false prophecy.

     I have always maintained that Mormonism is based upon two principles.  Sex and godhood; you can’t get one without the other.  You can’t be truly saved (godhood status) if you’re not married; i.e. polygamy.  You can’t be married without taking oaths in the temple to pledge loyalty to the Mormon god who is a polygamist.  (In reality yes, you can be married outside of the temple.  However if you’re a TBM (true blue Mormon) and truly love your Heavenly Father you’ll be needing that temple marriage.)

     When the younger sister wife of the host family being interviewed was asked how she would get to heaven, her response made me cringe.  She answered by stating that being married and following Jesus’ example to bring children here to earth, obeying the commandments (D&C 132) and having a happy family is the way she can go to heaven.

     Where is the gospel in this?  Where is there any hope provided by a Savior?  Now whether or not she articulated the proper tenets of that particular sect is irrelevant.  Her understanding of the gospel of Jesus Christ is totally warped!  This is the “fruit” of true Mormonism.  While I know she’s only twenty years old and still very young, this is what she will be passing on to her children.

 Think about it, she’s twenty and has two kids.

      As an example I was born and raised in mainstream Mormonism and lived with the average thought process of any average Mormon for thirty years.  The young woman’s thought process mentioned here isn’t any different than mine was before I got saved and I wasn’t a polygamist.  The last polygamist in my family was alive three generations ago.  My parents were 16 and 18 when they got married and I was born a day before their first anniversary.  My mother hadn’t finished 9th grade when she dropped out of school to be married.  The similarities are striking and sadly enough my experience is typical of Mormon behavior patterns.

     My parents weren’t married in the temple and while my mother did become active in her twenties, my father only on rare occasions would go to church.  They did however pass down the “heritage and culture” of being active in the Church as a youngster, thus my brothers and I were summarily dropped off at the ward building when the schedule demanded we be there.

     The residual effects of polygamy are far reaching and when the members of the LDS Church went into their temple one hundred years ago they took oaths upon themselves and the heads of the next third and fourth generations.  Don’t think those oaths are just some silly rituals they go through that don’t carry a spiritual price to pay.  Temple-worthy members of today are still taking those oaths.  Although they have changed the ceremonies drastically since the days of the early church, the oaths and effects are the same.

     The residual effects of polygamy can also be seen in the vital statistics of life in Utah today.  Every 18 months or so I write an article on the statistics of various subjects for the state of Utah – you can read the latest one here: http://www.lifeafter.org/vitalstats2006.asp

     The findings are remarkable to say the least.  Suicide, rape, and incest are higher there than the national average and they can’t figure out why.  The studies for trying to understand these phenomena have been ongoing since the mid-fifties.  They have been quoted as saying they are positive that religion has absolutely nothing to do with it.  One “expert” even said he felt the rates are that high because the Intermountain west has easy access to guns.  Yeah, okay…

     Here is what part of my article says about Utah stats: “Another comparison that I found to be very telling is from the Utah Department of Health.  It says that in Utah 1 out of 3 girls and 1 out of 5 boys will be sexually assaulted by the age of 18.  Nationally the rates are 1 out of 6 women (17%) and 1 out of 33 men (3%) will be sexually assaulted at some point in their lives.”

     In other words you’re twice as likely to be raped in Utah if you’re a female and if you’re a male it’s six times higher than the national average.  Pretty scary if you ask me.  Let’s face it; this is the residual effect of polygamy.

This is the legacy the early pioneers have left for the “Land of Zion”.  Now I’m not stating that the rest of the nation or the world for that matter is any better.  Goodness this world is filled with evil people who commit evil sins.  However, when the “prophets of God” proclaim something to be a direct revelation from the Almighty you’d think that the fruit of such an act would produce godly legacies, not bad ones.  Yet here is this “holy land” that is continually suffering a worse record of sexual crimes than the rest of the nation and I’m sure I’m not the only person who can figure this out.

     The biggest impression I was left with after watching that show was the sadness I felt for those women and girls.  I’m not a feminist mind you, but I cannot imagine living another day like that.  I love my husband and I know how blessed I am that God gave me two daughters, but without Jesus and His spilled blood I am nothing and have nothing.  It’s been almost 14 years since I accepted Jesus into my heart and working in this ministry reminds me of what He saved me from.  This show is a great reminder of just how desperate the situation is for those caught in the trap of the evil one.  Help us won’t you to reach out to them through prayer and witness?  May God bless you for your willingness and love!

Greek and Latin Words in the Book of Mormon Part 4

      As promised, here are the updated and revised results from our research of Greek & Latin Words in the Book of Mormon.  Our most significant finding is the realization that the more we studied the Book of Mormon; the heavier our hearts became as the list of words became endless.

     Our main concern and the reason we did this wasn’t for some vindictive purpose.  It’s motivated out of a deep concern for the Mormon people.  (As a personal side note here – each time I publish anything like this I do it out of the heartache I carry for my own mother.  The Lord has taken that concern for her and expanded it to include all the Mormon people.)

Greek and Latin Words in the Book of Mormon Part 3

 Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pg. 299;To the Editor of the Times & Seasons:  Sir:—… There was no Greek of Latin upon the plates from which I, through the grace of God, translated the Book of Mormon. Let the language of that book speak for itself.

      With your endless patience in the past five or six months here we are to present to all of you our findings regarding Joseph Smith’s claims and the Book of Mormon!  To recap, Smith made the bold claim there were no Greek or Latin words in the translation of the Book of Mormon.  He claimed the Book of Mormon was originally etched onto brass and golden plates in a language called “Reformed Egyptian”.

Greek Words in the Book of Mormon Part 2

     Several months ago we published an article on our site focusing on the Greek words in the Book of Mormon. After we published it we received more than a handful of inquiries about the numbers for each word.

     In light of your requests I enlisted a devoted partner of LAM to double check my work.  Thanks to Alice’s kindness, here is the final tally!  I chose to only count the Greek words up to the end of Helaman as that takes the reader up to circa 1 BC to 1 AD.

LIGHT OF CHRIST

     As of late the Mormon term “Light of Christ” has been on my mind.  As a member of the LDS Church, I heard this used many times in reference to an individual possessing it.  It’s amazing how differently I think about things now versus a year ago when I was newly out of the LDS church. Back then I never would have contemplated what the word “light” meant from a biblical point of view.

     I’ve discovered several passages and examples in the Bible where God teaches us who He is and how He manifests Himself to us through His word.

     The first mention of “light” is in Genesis 1:3, when God says “let there be light”.  Then in Psalms 119:105 it says “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path”.  Another example is found in 2 Samuel 22:29 which says; “For thou art my lamp, O LORD: and the LORD will lighten my darkness”. The “light” mentioned in the latter verses are referring to the Word of God.

     We learn from John 1: 1-5, 7 that Jesus is the Word of God, that he is the light.  In John 12:16 Jesus says, “I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.”  As I will explain later, the “light” that people see in us is the Holy Spirit that dwells in us when we are saved. Before we are saved we are in darkness.  In the hymn Amazing Grace we sing “…Was blind, but now, I see…” Jesus tells us about this “light” in Luke 11:34-36.

     The phrase “light of Christ” doesn’t appear in the Bible, but is used often in the LDS community. They believe that we are all born with “the light of Christ” in us.  Neal Maxwell said;

 “It is possible for all to develop such love, because carried within each soul born on this planet is the Light of Christ, which can illumine the landscape of life, even if the carrier does not understand that light within (D&C 93-2)( All These Things Shall Give Thee Experience pg 51-70)

      What the Mormon Church isn’t telling you in the above reference is their belief that being born with “light of Christ” goes hand in hand with their belief about original sin.   The Church teaches that everyone is literally a child of God, born without sin.

     A couple of years ago I recall being in a meeting with a group of Christian ladies (I was LDS at the time) and somehow we got on the topic of sin and children.  When I said, “How can babies sin? They are perfect” the ladies just kind of stared at me.  I obviously hadn’t been taught and didn’t understand the doctrine of “Original Sin”!

     I was taught that we would “be punished for our own sins not for Adam’s transgressions” (The  Articles of Faith #2).

     In the Improvement Era, Dr. James E. Talmage said:

 “The Church holds that children are born to earth in a sinless state, that they need no individual redemption; that should they die before reaching the years of accountability, they return without taint of earthly sin; but if they attain youth or maturity in the flesh, their responsibility increases with their development.” (Improvement Era, 1901 Vol. Iv. April, 1901. No 6)

      I have a son that is almost two years old and I know that he is capable of sin!  Whenever he doesn’t get his way he has a temper tantrum. Other times as I tell him not to touch something he will look right at me and touch or reach for the thing I told him not to. Children are not without sin. God has given to us the responsibility of teaching our children to obey.  Proverbs 22:6 says:

 “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

     God knows that we all of us are born with a sin nature. No one ever had to teach us to sin; it was in us from the very beginning having inherited our sin nature from Adam. Romans 5:12 states;

 “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world and death by sin: and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.”

      Once we accept Jesus Christ as our Savoir the Holy Spirit takes up permanent residence in our body. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says:

 “What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own. For ye are bought with a price therefore glorify God in your boys and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

      Many times you will hear LDS say that they can see or could see the “light of Christ” in an individual. They are referring to the “good works” that they see in this person and their personality. The truth is we are all sinners. Romans 3:23 says; “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God”.  Once we are saved people can see the workings of God in us and this is known as the Holy Spirit.  It is what attracts the unbeliever to us!  Remember though that this is not us – it’s Him!  In Mormon Doctrine, Bruce R. McConkie states;

 “The Holy Ghost is the third member of the Godhead. He is a Personage of Spirit, a Spirit Person, a Spirit Man, a Spirit Entity. He can be in only one place at one time and he does not and cannot transform himself into any other form or image than that of the Man whom he is, though his power and influence can be manifest at one and the same time through all immensity.”  (Mormon Doctrine pg 358-359)

      God teaches us in the Bible that McConkie’s statement is wrong by showing us the Holy Spirit is in fact omnipresent, like in Psalms 139:7;

“Whither shall I go from thy spirit? Or whither shall I flee from thy presence?”

      Here’s what Ephesians 2: 17-18 and 1 Corinthians 12:13 say respectively about this subject;

 “And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.”

“For by one Spirit we are all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond of free; and have been all made to drink into the one Spirit”.

     The teaching of the “light of Christ” dwelling in us is not biblical. The things people see in you once you are saved comes from the Holy Spirit. These qualities are known as the “fruit of the Spirit”; Galatians 5:22-23.  Additionally, Ephesians 5:18-19 shows that when a person is filled with the Spirit they have a joyous and cheerful attitude toward God.

And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit: Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.”

      I pray that if you are LDS and are reading this article you will come to know the true Jesus as your Savior.  We’re praying for you.

 In Christ,

Melissa Grimes

DENOUNCING THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS

 First of all we must tell you congratulations on getting out of the Mormon Church!  We are celebrating your new found freedom and rejoice with the angels as you begin your new walk with the Lord Christ Jesus!  Please keep us updated on your progress so we may be blessed by continuing to pray for you and your loved ones.

 We have found over the years that it is in the best interest of the new ex-Mormon if they go out and find a Bible believing church which they feel comfortable in attending and get re-baptized into the Lord Jesus Christ.  If you’ve been married in the temple or by a Mormon bishop or chaplain you might think about renewing your wedding vows as well.

 It’s vitally important to denounce any of the vows that you’ve taken in the temples or ward meetings to help free yourself from the Mormon way of thinking.  This is a step which separates you spiritually from the Church and gives Jesus the power to do His work in you.  You might want to pray something like this:

  “In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the authority I possess as a believer in Him, I rebuke any and all lying and deceitful spirits of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints which may still think that they have a claim on me or my family. In Jesus’ name, I renounce the spirits of priestcraft, the spirits of Moroni and Mormo and declare that you have no power over me any more, for I am bought and paid for by the blood of Jesus of Nazareth who died for me on Calvary.

 I renounce any covenants made by me at my baptism into the LDS Church and any priesthood or Bishopric blessings given to me. (If a former Temple Mormon: I renounce any and all covenants made in the LDS temple— especially those placing my family and children under bondage to demonic principalities and powers!) By the power of the blood of Jesus, I also renounce any generational sin or hereditary bondage which may be oppressing me or my family through covenants made by my parents or ancestors; and I nail all these things to the cross of Christ, “forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”  (Phil.3:13-14) In Jesus’ name.  Amen.”

Studying the Book of Mormon 10

 http://www.sidneyrigdon.com/dbroadhu/NE/miscne01.htm

 Boston Courier.
Vol. VI.                           Boston, Ma., Thursday, March 17, 1831.                           No. 545.

 DELUSION. There is no end to trickery and imposture in our land. “Fools are the game which knaves pursue,” and until the people in some sections of the country become more enlightened, there will be plenty of game.

 The newspaper headline above provides insight to what most people thought of Joseph Smith and his shenanigans.  This edition of the Boston Courier was fascinating.  We are able to see how the early Mormon Church was able to grow and to what extent the surrounding townsfolk tolerated this movement.  Most didn’t put up with it, while others were able to be tricked into their schemes.  At one point a Methodist church had Rigdon and a few others come in and actually preach at the pulpit – the entire congregation left God and signed up to become Mormon.

 Mormon 9:32-33; “And now, behold, we have written this record according to our knowledge, in the characters which are called among us the reformed Egyptian, being handed down and altered by us, according to our manner of speech.  33 And if our plates had been sufficiently large we should have written in Hebrew; but the Hebrew hath been altered by us also; and if we could have written in Hebrew, behold, ye would have had no imperfection in our record.

 The passage above is a good example of how the Church makes excuses for the way they believe.  Does it make sense they’ve altered the Hebrew or Reformed Egyptian?  His explanation reminds me of what the con artist tries to pull off at carnivals.  He puts the prize under the shell and mixes them around; if you find it, you win.

 Tragically, the unfound prize in this game is the salvation in Jesus that Mormons are so desperately seeking.  The Mormon god keeps changing the rules; the people writing the story changed the language and the members won’t change their minds about whom they hold allegiance to.

 The entire Book of Mormon (not just this particular book) is difficult to follow or assign a central theme to because of the miserable way it’s been written.   The writing of Moroni in the Book of Mormon is no exception to this finding.  They purposely introduce off topic items in order to confuse.  Because of this, I’ve chosen to list several items of interest that actually hurts the storyline instead of adding to the message it was originally intended to convey.  If it’s to be a cohesive piece of work why is there so much garbage in its text?

 I’ve not written my analysis this way to confuse, but to spark an objective thinking process about Joseph Smith and his claim about the characters in this book.

 If you’re LDS, know that we pray for you each and every day.  We so want for you to know the Jesus in the Bible and dedicate your passion to Him who holds the truth.

 With Love in Christ;

Michelle Grim

 Think about the above scenario for a moment.  The entire face of the land was covered with buildings – and they still haven’t found even one piece of archaeological evidence…

 If there were almost as many people on the face of the land as there were grains of sand, how did they all fit?  As a side note, there are approximately 10,000 grains of medium-coarse sand per cubic inch…

 Modern democracy like America knows it didn’t come about until the Declaration of Independence in 1776.  While forms of living in a “free world” made half hearted attempts and brief appearances as early as the Greco-Roman Empire and again in 1215 with the advent of the Magna Carta, this thought process and governmental system wasn’t in existence until centuries after the Book of Mormon was supposed to have taken place.

 Mormon 2:23; “And it came to pass that I did speak unto my people, and did urge them with great energy, that they would stand boldly before the Lamanites and fight for their wives, and their children, and their houses, and their homes.

 If you believe in God why are you without hope?

 Mormon 5:2; “But behold, I was without hope, for I knew the judgments of the Lord which should come upon them; for they repented not of their iniquities, but did struggle for their lives without calling upon that Being who created them.

 Were the Nephites evil?

 Mormon 6:7; “And it came to pass that my people, with their wives and their children, did now behold the armies of the Lamanites marching towards them; and with that awful fear of death which fills the breasts of all the wicked, did they await to receive them.

 If you believe in God, why are you using the terminology of witches?

 Mormon 6:15; “…and blood lay upon the face of the earth, being left by the hands of those who slew them to molder upon the land, and to crumble and to return to their mother earth.

 Why is the destruction of the Nephites “great and marvelous”?

 Mormon 8:7; “And behold, the Lamanites have hunted my people, the Nephites, down from city to city and from place to place, even until they are no more; and great has been their fall; yea, great and marvelous is the destruction of my people, the Nephites.

 Modern day Mormon theology

 In order to receive a full and true salvation members of the LDS Church must subject themselves to a bishop’s interview.  It is there the bishop will ask the member if their spiritual lives are in order and that means paying a full 10% tithe of your gross income.  You turn in your W-2 and if you don’t comply, you don’t receive the coveted Mormon temple recommend.  The end of each year brings with it a “tithing settlement” you make with the ward (congregation) you belong to.

 Mormon 8:32; “Yea, it shall come in a day when there shall be churches built up that shall say: Come unto me, and for your money you shall be forgiven of your sins.

 Incorrect teaching in Mormon

 The Mormon teaching below is disingenuous.  Yes, we can be resurrected because Jesus was resurrected after His death.  However, Jesus’ death brought about forgiveness of our sins, alas, that is something the Mormons don’t like to talk about.

 Romans 4:25; “Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

 Mormon 9:13; “…because the death of Christ bringeth to pass the resurrection…

 Not enough room to tell whole story because they’ve changed the languages

 I’ve often wondered why they didn’t just write in Hebrew to begin with.  Where did this “Reformed Egyptian” stuff come from anyway?  Who told them to write in this manner?  Who taught the Nephites this language if they didn’t go into Egypt in their exodus from Jerusalem?  Why did the author(s) waste so much space on their plates with nonsensical information like the examples above?  (Number of years passed, bad grammar, “and it came to pass” phrases used repetitively, plagiarisms from the Bible, et al.)

 No one but Smith knows Reformed Egyptian

 How convenient…

 Mormon 9:34; “But the Lord knoweth the things which we have written, and also that none other people knoweth our language; and because that none other people knoweth our language, therefore he hath prepared means for the interpretation thereof.

 How do you rid your clothes of the blood of unbelievers?

 Mormon 9:35; “And these things are written that we may rid our garments of the blood of our brethren, who have dwindled in unbelief.

 And finally – if there were so many Nephites in this army of 42,000 and 30,000, etc., what in the world happened to all of them?  Where are they, how did they die, where are their families….where is the archaeological evidence of these people?

13 Articles of Faith in Mormonism AND 13 Principles of the Jewish Faith Compared

       For those who are students of Mormonism, including me, it is interesting to take note of “coincidences” that present themselves for comparison.  What I find fascinating is how many times Joseph Smith came up with the idea of incorporating so many genres of religions and ideologies into what we know today as Mormonism.

     Belief in a pre-existence reminds me of Hinduism and re-incarnation.  You can essentially make yourself over, so to speak, and try the best you can to become a god.  In Mormonism we see the temple oaths which obviously come from Masonry; Mormonism mimics Catholicism by having to repent to man for forgiveness.  It is very much like Islam by the way they worship the founders, Muhommad and Joseph Smith.  Not to mention the way they both treat women by subjugating them to a class just under cow status.

     I don’t know how many times I’ve been reminded that Mormonism is nothing more than modern day Gnosticism.  Or how they seem to be like the early Israelites when Moses went up to Mt. Sinai to speak with God and receive the Ten Commandments; remember how they worshipped around the golden calf and forgot the promises they made to God?    And let us not forget the modern-day custom of bigotry and slavery based on skin color.

     The subject of this article is one of those examples as I’m having a difficult time believing this is a “coincidence”.  So come along with me as we look at the Thirteen Articles of Faith in Mormonism and the Thirteen Principles of the Jewish Faith.

     Before we begin let me clarify one major point.  I am not well versed in the Jewish faith.  It was only a few short weeks ago that I learned of the Thirteen Principles of the Jewish Faith!  I’ve never seen this in the Bible and have been unaware.  Since then I have tried to learn as much as possible about it, but by no means am I an expert.  If you are intimate with these Thirteen Articles of the Jewish Faith and have more insight to share, please write to us!  Please forgive me if I have sounded ignorant enough to offend and know that is not my intention.  I e-mailed a friend of mine who is a director for Chosen People Ministries and asked him to give me a short synopsis of these Thirteen Principles so my thanks go out to Daniel!  He shared with me that the “wording varies in the different ways the articles are enunciated”.

     Because there are various sets of these “principles” that have been adapted by different sects within Judaism, I am using what seemed to be the most common.  I’ve listed another set at the end of this article.

     Below are side by side comparisons of the LDS Thirteen Articles of Faith and the Thirteen Principles of the Jewish Faith.  The LDS’ version won’t be in order as this makes it easier to show the similarities. The Jewish Principles are in order.

     You can also find a copy of the Thirteen Articles of Faith in order at the back of any Pearl of Great Price, or on the Mormon website here: http://scriptures.lds.org/en/a_of_f/1

     This particular version of the Thirteen Principles of the Jewish Faith used was taken from the website of Wikipedia at:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_principles_of_faith and are listed at the end of this article as well.

     You the reader may find that you would have placed the LDS Articles of Faith with a different Jewish Principle of Faith, so please share your ideas.  My purpose in putting this on the site is to show the members of the LDS faith how similar Smith’s “revelation” was to something that had been created by a Jewish rabbi who lived from 1135 to 1204 AD.  The Rabbi Moshe ben Maimon formulated the principles while studying at the University of Fes in Morocco.  It wasn’t until after the “Enlightenment Period” that his teachings were widely accepted by a large majority of the Jewish believers.  They now serve as part of their daily prayers. You can learn more about Rabbi Maimon at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maimonides

     Again, the reason we write these articles and share them with you the reader, is to plant the idea that it’s okay to ask questions.  It’s all right if you want further clarification on the doctrines of the Church or any church for that matter!  Your eternal soul is at stake and I would hope this fact would mean more than the fear you may harbor inside.

     If you’d like more information on Mormonism or would like to add someone to our prayer list, send us an e-mail!

Book of Mormon Artifacts;

Smithsonian & National Geographic Response to Inquiry

Book of Mormon 3      This is the one subject about Mormonism that I put off the longest.  It was such a huge undertaking in my mind that quite frankly, it scared me!  I’m not an archaeologist, nor am I a theologian; but, the one thing I’ve been gifted with is literacy.  I can figure out when/if something isn’t sound and make a determination if the information provided can be deemed trustworthy.

     I looked at countless Christian, aka “anti-Mormon” websites, in addition to FAIR and FARMS to get a collective list of which things were questionable in the Book of Mormon and came up with nineteen items.  I’ve used the official websites of dictionaries, encyclopedias, universities and research analysts of various fields to retrieve the data needed and have listed my findings here.

     As I’ve already said, I’m a simple person.  I raised a couple of kids, a couple of Rottweilers and I like to study.  Additionally, I’m a nosey person and I want to know why things like silk, iron or horses weren’t in the Americas during the time of the Book of Mormon and that is what drives me to get each question I have answered.

     I want to know when these things arrived here or how long they’ve been known to be here in America and I want to be sure I personally know for an absolute certainty from historical records that each of my findings is correct.  For every website I’ve listed there were at least five others that I went to for corroboration.

     I think it’s also important to see what the original source has to say about themselves so what does one of the greatest thinkers of Mormonism have to say about the Book of Mormon?  From B.H. Roberts himself, here is an analysis of Joseph Smith’s work.

 Studies of the Book of Mormon, by B.H. Roberts, p. 271;There were other Anti-Christs among the Nephites, but they were more military leaders than religious innovators… they are all of one breed and brand; so nearly alike that one mind is the author of them, and that a young and underdeveloped, but piously inclined mind.  The evidence I sorrowfully submit, points to Joseph Smith as their creator.  It is difficult to believe that they are a product of history, that they came upon the scene separated by long periods of time, and among a race which was the ancestral race of the red man of America.

    If this guy doubts the authenticity of the Book of Mormon shouldn’t we?

 1 – Barley

 Mosiah 7:22;And all this he did, for the sole purpose of bringing this people into subjection or into bondage. And behold, we at this time do pay tribute to the king of the Lamanites, to the amount of one half of our corn, and our barley, and even all our grain of every kind, and one half of the increase of our flocks and our herds; and even one half of all we have or possess the king of the Lamanites doth exact of us, or our lives.

     CFW (Cereal Foods of the World) has an incredibly detailed account of the history of food grains on their website.  (1)   Yeah I know it might sound boring from that explanation, but it is interesting to find out who ate what and when.  The massive amount of work performed by these people serves as proof barley was not in the Americas until the arrival of Columbus’ second visit here in 1494, more than one thousand years after the end of the Book of Mormon story.

     This particular site is provided by C.W. Newman and R.K. Newman from Newman Associates, Inc. Bozeman, MT.  Performing a basic search on the net in addition to his site you’ll learn that Mr. Newman is cited in several works regarding the history of barley and “received his Ph.D.  in animal science at Louisiana State University in 1965”.  He did “extensive work and research exploring the food and feed value of barley”.  Here is part of what he had to say regarding barley;

 “Columbus brought barley to the North American continent in 1494 on his second voyage (27).  The original introduction site was not conducive to barley culture, and there were no further reports of production in the area.  Later there were two additional pathways through which barley was introduced more successfully in North America.  Barley was brought to the East Coast colonies from England at the turn of the 17th century and into the Southwest during the Spanish mission movement (29).  There is little or no indication that barley was used for food during these early years; most of the crop was grown for malting, and the remainder was used as animal fee.  The same pattern continues today in the United States, with the majority of barley used for animal feed (65%) and malt and alcohol production (30%) and the remainder consumed as food (1.5%) or used for other purposes (15).”

2 – Bees

beeEther 2:3; “And they did also carry with them deseret, which, by interpretation, is a honey bee; and thus they did carry with them swarms of bees, and all manner of that which was upon the face of the land, seeds of every kind”.

According to Tom Turpin, professor of Entomology at Purdue University, the honey bee didn’t arrive in America until they were imported here by European settlers around 1622.

 – Bows and Arrows

 1 Nephi 16:14; “And it came to pass that we did take our bows and our arrows, and go forth into the wilderness to slay food for our families; and after we had slain food for our families we did return again to our families in the wilderness, to the place of Shazer. And we did go forth again in the wilderness, following the same direction, keeping in the most fertile parts of the wilderness, which were in the borders near the Red Sea.

     From the many websites I visited throughout this research it was generally agreed that bows and arrows didn’t come into the Americas until the late Woodland (500 AD) or early Mississippian (800-1100 AD) time period.  The dates listed here are an average from data collected.  As you can see this is at least 400 years after the story in the Book of Mormon ends!

     Typically arrows were made from the rudimentary carving of various sharpened stone while bows were made from hickory, ash or black locust woods that could have “a pull weight of about fifty pounds”.

     The iron hatchet came with the arrival of the white man in the eighteenth and nineteenth century which greatly changed the scenery of warfare in the lives of the American Indians.  Up until the fifteenth century American Indians had pretty much stayed to themselves in their own villages, with the remnants of palisades being found from the southeastern part of the U.S. to north of the Ohio valley.

     Historical warfare periods weren’t known to the American Indians until the arrival of the white man.  There were the occasional “Indian raids”, but these never consisted of more than a few hundred men at a time, nothing in scale to what the Book of Mormon claims.  (2)

 4– CEMENT

 Helaman 3:7; “And there being but little timber upon the face of the land, nevertheless the people who went forth became exceedingly expert in the working of cement; therefore they did build houses of cement, in the which they did dwell.”

      I keep learning the older I get, the less I know in life and this is a perfect example.  Ha!  Cement is an ingredient in concrete.  I’ve always thought they were the same thing and used the words interchangeably not knowing my ignorance…sigh!  From the website of www.dictionary.com it says this about cement;

 “Any of various calcined mixtures of clay and limestone, usually mixed with water and sand, gravel, etc., to form concrete, that are used as a building material.

      Cement became very popular during the Roman Empire during the time of Nero, circa 60 AD.  It was used to build palaces, malls and temples like the Pantheon.  Aside from these large structures people didn’t use it to build homes or other buildings with it, but used it only as the glue between bricks or stones.  (3)

     And just when I thought learning about cement would bore me to death I learned something very curious which caught my immediate attention;

 “Construction of a system of canals in the first half of the 19th Century created the first large-scale demand for cement in this country. In 1818, a year after the Erie Canal was started, Canvass White, an engineer, discovered rock deposits in Madison County, NY, from which natural hydraulic cement could be made with little additional processing. He produced large amounts of this cement for use in the Erie Canal.”  (4)

      Hmmm…it makes me wonder if Smith used the idea of cement homes from the local construction sites surrounding his neck of the woods…certainly he would’ve heard about this and/or read about it in the local papers!

 5  – CHARIOTS

 Alma 18:9; “And they said unto him: Behold, he is feeding thy horses. Now the king had commanded his servants, previous to the time of the watering of their flocks, that they should prepare his horses and chariots, and conduct him forth to the land of Nephi; for there had been a great feast appointed at the land of Nephi, by the father of Lamoni, who was king over all the land.

      There were a number of uses for the chariot most of which included war battles, racing, parades and games.  The first recorded location of chariots is believed to have been in Mesopotamia, but even that is disputed.  It seems the last recorded use of a chariot was circa 540 AD timeframe and by that time in history they were only being used in parades.  (5)

     The website of www.encyclopedia.com gives a good concise explanation of the origin, uses, and geographical spread of the chariot.  Nothing I found said anything about the chariot being in the American continent at any time so that pretty much negates the story of the father of Lamoni gathering the chariots to go for a feast!

 6 – Chickens

 2 Nephi 5:11; “And the Lord was with us; and we did prosper exceedingly; for we did sow seed, and we did reap again in abundance. And we began to raise flocks, and herds, and animals of every kind”

      While I am fully aware that the word “chickens” was not used in the Book of Mormon the verse above indicates that this is most probably what they were talking about.  However, according to the National Geographic Society and every reputable website out there we read otherwise.  As noted they have recently found fragments of a chicken bone in Chile which they believe is around 1550 – 2000 years old.  It was one chicken bone in Chile…were the Book of Mormon people ever known to have been in Chile?  (6)

     In defense of using the chicken in this article the reader might also want to read an interesting book written by LDS author Paul Cheesman called “Book of Mormon: The Keystone Scripture”, pg. 191.  It is in this chapter that Cheesman defends early voyages from China and other eastern countries at or around the sixteenth century AD.  Keep in mind they are eastern countries some 1200 years after the end of the Book of Mormon stories…

 7 – CIMETER (SCIMETER)

 Jarom 1:20; “And I bear record that the people of Nephi did seek diligently to restore the Lamanites unto the true faith in God…and their skill was in the bow, and in the cimeter, and the ax. And many of them did eat nothing save it was raw meat; and they were continually seeking to destroy us.

      I wanted to address two items of interest in this section.  One is the topic of the National Geographic Society and their official statement of “finds” in Mesoamerica and the other topic is the scimeter.  Now the scimeter is an old-world weapon that would be categorized as a curved spear or sword that is typically held by two hands.  For a list of Aztec weapons click on the link below.

(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scimitar#Scimitars_in_history)

     The LDS apologists will tell you that Smith was referring to the Mesoamerican cimeter but these are made of hardwood clubs, not spears made of steel that Smith claims.  The spears that people in the Mesoamerica areas used were made of stone that had been sharpened.  These proved to be a formidable weapon; however they weren’t made of any type of metal.

     We’ve already established through the National Geographic Society and the Smithsonian Institute that the Book of Mormon has never proved to be reliable in any archaeological sense (7).  This is part of what Ms. Walker from the National Geographic Society said to me through an e-mail:

 “The National Geographic Society has not examined the historical claims of the Book of Mormon.  We know of no archaeological evidence that corroborates the ancient history of the Western Hemisphere as presented in the Book of Mormon, nor are we aware of empirical verification of the places named in the Book of Mormon.”

      So why does the LDS Church have people like John Sorensen saying things like this?

 “When Cortez crossed southern Mexico during his epic journey to Honduras, he discovered fortifications around the Laguna de Terminos area very similar to those Moroni erected in the first century B.C. (Alma 53:1-5) in the east coastal lowlands only a few score miles from Cortez’s route.

      Sorensen is a gifted writer as we can see and he has the gift of being able to twist words to make it look as if these two places match up in identity, therefore authenticating the Book of Mormon.  Sorensen goes on to say:

 “The Book of Mormon describes a ditch being dug around the protected area; the excavated earth was piled inward to form a bank. Atop it a fence of timbers was planted and bound together with vines. That very arrangement is now well documented archaeologically. The National Geographic Society-Tulane University project at Becan in the center of the Yucatan peninsula has shown the pattern to be very old.”  John L. Sorenson, An Ancient American Setting for the Book of Mormon, 261.

      Pay close attention to this previous section because Sorensen made it sound like the National Geographic Society from Tulane authenticated the Book of Mormon claims, but they did not!  What they documented is what Cortez discovered when he went to Honduras.  And Cortez never said anything about Laguna de Terminos being similar to what Moroni supposedly built!  When the average Mormon reads something like that, they’ll assume the National Geographic said it was true!  On the very next page of Sorensen’s book it says this about the cimeter;

 “The Mesoamerican parallel would be the weapon the Aztecs called the maccuahuitl, a hardwood club edged on both sides with razor-sharp obsidian blades. The Spaniards called this feared weapon a “sword,” said it was sharper than their own weapons, and learned with dismay that one blow with it could cut off the head of a horse. Bernal Diaz, among the conquering Spaniards, also reported “broad swords” distinct from the maccuahuitl, but these are not elsewhere described, as far as I know.”  John L. Sorenson, An Ancient American Setting for the Book of Mormon, 262.

      The truth is that these two weapons are vastly different.  They were made by two different cultures, from two different types of material.  (8)  And the National Geographic Society never authenticated what the Book of Mormon says no matter what BYU says.  From what all the well respected archaeologists and scientists have said it is even more unlikely the Middle East and Mesoamerica even knew of each other during the years that Smith claims this was going on!

     To the Mormon:  it is easy enough to be startled when reading or hearing anything from F.A.R.M.S.  They make it sound so good, but the true evidence has always proved otherwise…there will never be any evidence with proof the lands of the Book of Mormon existed.  As B.H. Roberts said, the only place they did exist is in Joseph Smith’s own mind and Satan’s of course!

    8 – COMPASS

 1 Nephi 18:12; “And it came to pass that after they had bound me insomuch that I could not move, the compass, which had been prepared of the Lord, did cease to work.”

      Here are two examples of this word in the Bible and how they are used.

 Exodus 27:5; “And thou shalt put it under the compass of the altar beneath, that the net may be even to the midst of the altar.”

 Exodus 38:4; “And he made for the altar a brazen grate of network under the compass thereof beneath unto the midst of it.”     The Hebrew word for compass is: karkob.  It means rim or top margin.  In the New Testament we see it used in Acts 28:13;

 “And from thence we fetched a compass, and came to Rhegium: and after one day the south wind blew, and we came the next day to Puteoli.”

      The Greek word is perierchomai.  It means: to come all around, that is, stroll, vacillate, veer—fetch a compass, vagabond, wandering about.

     Now let’s look at what 1 Nephi 18:21says about the word compass which supposedly took place circa 589 BC;

 “And it came to pass after they had loosed me, behold, I took the compass, and it did work whither I desired it. And it came to pass that I prayed unto the Lord; and after I had prayed the winds did cease, and the storm did cease, and there was a great calm.”

      We can see from this passage of First Nephi that they are referring to a navigational device.  After spending about 10 minutes searching on the internet for information on who invented the compass I came upon the website of Smith College History of Science.  Here is what they said about the compass:

 “Earliest records show a spoon shaped compass made of lodestone or magnetite ore, referred to as a “South-pointer” dating back to sometime during the Han Dynasty (2nd century BCE to 2nd century CE).”  The report goes on to say; “…By the time of the T’ang dynasty (7-8th century CE), Chinese scholars had devised a way to magnetize iron needles, by rubbing them with magnetite, and then suspending them in water (early 11th century)…during the Sung dynasty (1000 CE) many trading ships were then able to sail as far as Saudi Arabia without getting lost.”

      The Europeans didn’t use compasses for navigation until the twelfth to thirteenth century (9), so why did the Nephites have them some 1,800 years before the Europeans and at least 400 years before it was invented by the Chinese?  In addition, why when it broke was no one able to fix it except one person?

     You can find the Smith College History of Science website here.

     So from what the Bible says about the word compass and its transliterations, and from what we can learn by just reading a history lesson of sorts, we can see there is no way at all the “Nephite” Jews were using a compass to guide themselves around.

     Granted, Joseph Smith didn’t have access to the internet back in 1830 but certainly if this was theopneustos (God breathed), Joseph Smith would have had access to God!  Wouldn’t God know when the compass was invented?

 9 – Cows

 1 Nephi 18:25; “And it came to pass that we did find upon the land of promise, as we journeyed in the wilderness, that there were beasts in the forests of every kind, both the cow and the ox, and the ass and the horse, and the goat and the wild goat, and all manner of wild animals, which were for the use of men. And we did find all manner of ore, both of gold, and of silver, and of copper.”

      As we can see from the two sites below there is at least an eleven hundred year discrepancy between what the Book of Mormon claims and historical facts are. (10)

     The American Livestock Breeds Conservancy reports the Pineywoods descends from Spanish cattle and were one of the first breeds brought to America in the early 1500’s. (10)

     And in case there was any doubt as to what type of cattle or dairy cows we’re talking about there is also this site that tells us about the first dairy cows that were brought to America;

 “Dairy cows first arrived in America in 1611 which helped end severe starvation in Jamestown Colony.”  They also report “In 1623, two Devon heifers and a Devon bull were imported to the Plymouth Colony from Britain. These three cattle were probably the first purebred cattle to reach North America. Devon cattle were highly valued as oxen in the American Colonies.” (10)

      Interestingly enough we also see in Studies of the Book of Mormon, pg. 99, B.H. Roberts quoted well respected Mr. W. H. Holmes from the Bureau of American Ethnology who thought it was interesting that the characters in the Book of Mormon never mentioned drinking milk;

 “…Strange, this absence of the use of milk as a diet since the Book of Mormon peoples were immigrants into the New World from regions where the use of milk was a common diet, and came to a land of “cattle and cows,” yet no mention is made of the use of milk as a diet in the Book of Mormon.”

 10 – Donkey/Ass

 Mosiah 5:14; “And again, doth a man take an ass which belongeth to his neighbor, and keep him? I say unto you, Nay; he will not even suffer that he shall feed among his flocks, but will drive him away, and cast him out. I say unto you, that even so shall it be among you if ye know not the name by which ye are called.

      The simple explanation below gives proof the ass/donkey wasn’t in the Americas when Joseph’s story in the Book of Mormon claims they were.  I wonder how many times things like this have to appear before a member of the Church gets sick of having so many “coincidences” of things not being right?

 “Equines had become extinct in the Western Hemisphere at the end of the last Ice Age. However, horses and donkeys were brought back to the Americas by the Conquistadors. In 1495, the ass first appeared in the New World when Christopher Columbus brought four jacks and two jennys. It is from this bloodline that many of the mules which the Conquistadors used while they explored the Americas were produced.” (11)

 11 – Elephants

 Ether 9:19; “And they also had horses, and asses, and there were elephants and cureloms and cumoms; all of which were useful unto man, and more especially the elephants and cureloms and cumoms.”

      The evolution explanation of the elephant in America is listed below.  I found it rather interesting that their surmising of what happened with the elephant sounds a lot like the surmising of what took place in the Book of Mormon…they “multiplied astonishingly and then became extinct…”  Remember what God told us in Ecc.1:9?

 “The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

      From the website of “Revolution Against Evolution” it states;

 “The mastodon elephant arrived in America during the Miocene epoch, according to the texts, multiplied astonishingly, and then became extinct. Assorted explanations have been offered, including the theory that early hunters wiped them all out. Various dates, for example, 4500 B.C., are given when the last elephant in America died. A far more recent date is suggested by the following. Near Concordia, Columbia, a complete skeleton of a mastodon was found in an artificial salt pond, which had been constructed by Indians. The pond, with its bottom of paved stones together with the animal, had been entombed by a sudden landslide (Victoria Institute, 1886, 22:151).” (12)

 12 – Glass

 Ether 3:1; “And it came to pass that the brother of Jared, (now the number of the vessels which had been prepared was eight) went forth unto the mount, which they called the mount Shelem, because of its exceeding height, and did molten out of a rock sixteen small stones; and they were white and clear, even as transparent glass…”

      A couple of things should be noted for this section just to make sure we are fair when looking at this subject.

     First, according to the website of www.inventors.about.com it says that glass is thought to have been first created around 3,000 BC during the Bronze Age (3300 – 1200 BC).

     Secondly, because we’re dealing with a type of window glass for this particular study, the information I found for this invention took place during the Imperial Period (44 BC).  The website of Met Museum says this about window glass;

 Glass windowpanes were first made in the early imperial period, and used most prominently in the public baths to prevent drafts. Because window glass in Rome was intended to provide insulation and security, rather than illumination or as a way of viewing the world outside, little, if any, attention was paid to making it perfectly transparent or of even thickness. Window glass could be either cast or blown.”  (13)

      So we see from what the Met Museum reports there is little to no chance that windows were readily available for ships or boats at the time of the Jaredites which supposedly dates to 2,700 BC to 600 BC.  The main story of the Jaredites can be found in the book of Ether.

     American glass has an interesting story if you’re so inclined to read a synopsis of that!  The contributor to this site is Steve W. Martin, Ph.D., Professor of Materials, Science and Engineering, Iowa State University.  (14)

     In part this is what Dr. Martin reports on this site;

 “Early American glass. The first factory in what is now the United States was a glass plant built at Jamestown, Virginia, in 1608. The venture failed within a year because of a famine that took the lives of many colonists. The Jamestown colonists tried glassmaking again in 1621, but an Indian attack in 1622 and the scarcity of workers ended this attempt in 1624. The industry was reestablished in America in 1739, when Caspar Wistar built a glassmaking plant in what is now Salem County, New Jersey. This plant operated until 1780.”

 13 – Horses

 2 Nephi 12:7; “Their land also is full of silver and gold, neither is there any end of their treasures; their land is also full of horses, neither is there any end of their chariots.”

      The verse above supposedly took place between 550 and 545 BC; however, this is a huge problem with archaeological studies and evidences according to researchers.  From the website of the Columbia Encyclopedia it said;

 The Spanish conquistadors brought horses to the New World, where Native Americans soon acquired them from ranches and missions. The Plains Indians of North America quickly developed a horse culture that led to their ascendancy in numbers and power. Horses were used for hunting buffalo and other game, for warfare, and for pulling loads on a travois . Escaped Indian horses were ancestral to the mustang , the so-called wild horse of the W United States.”  (15)

     Now if you’re a Mormon and believe in the validity of the Book of Mormon then you’ve got a problem according to the website mentioned above.  If you believe that horses were in the Americas before the time of the Conquistadors then you have to believe in evolution.

     If you look at the side in favor of Mormonism you’ll see what they continue to say at FAIR about the horse.  I find the majority of their insights to be totally lacking factual evidence based upon what their own apologists state.  The reader will also notice how they typically try to explain away the problems for the lack of evidence by making excuses for what the Book of Mormon actually claims.

 From FAIR it says; “Non-LDS Canadian researcher, Yuri Kuchinsky, also believes that there were pre-Columbian horses…Unfortunately, however, such theories are typically seen as fringe among mainstream scholars. Due to the dearth of archaeological support, most scholars continue to believe that horses became extinct at the end of the Pleistocene period. Is it possible that real horses lived in the Americas during Book of Mormon times? And if so, why does there seem to be no archaeological support?

First, it is important to recognize that the Book of Mormon never states or implies that horses roamed the New World in large numbers–in fact, horses are mentioned very infrequently…”

      See what I mean?  The above explanation is case in point.

 14 – Iron

 2 Nephi 5:15; “And I did teach my people to build buildings, and to work in all manner of wood, and of iron, and of copper, and of brass, and of steel, and of gold, and of silver, and of precious ores, which were in great abundance.” – BC 588 – 570.

      The findings for this particular subject matter are just as damning as all the others in Joseph Smith’s story of the Book of Mormon.  In the tenth chapter of a book called “History of the Manufacture of Iron in All Ages, pgs. 100-103, by James Moore Swank it says;

 It would not be profitable to inquire minutely whether the mound-builders or any other aboriginal inhabitants of the United States, or the aboriginal inhabitants of any other part of the American continent, possessed a knowledge of the use and consequently of the manufacture of iron. It may be said with positiveness that it has not been proved that they possessed this knowledge even in the slightest degree, if we except the very rare vise of meteoric iron. Antiquarians have not neglected a subject of so much importance, but their researches have produced only negative results. Rude hatchets and other small implements of iron have been found in situations which give color to the theory ‘that they may have been of aboriginal origin and may have been made from iron ore, but the weight of much concurrent testimony is wholly against this supposition.  Foster, in his Prehistoric Races of the United States of America, says that “no implement of iron
has been found in connection with the ancient civilizations of America.”
 (16)

      I highly encourage the reader to investigate this claim by the Book of Mormon in addition to reading the entire chapter of the book mentioned above.  It gives quite an extensive history of the early American Indians, the mounds throughout Mesoamerica and northern America regarding their use of iron.  The book was written in 1892.  You can read a pdf copy at the link provided or see the real thing at Stanford University Library.

     The Mormon Church will tell you of course the archaeologists have definitively found direct evidences of just the opposite of what all other researchers have to say.  In Milton R. Hunter’s book, Archaeology and the Book of Mormon, chapter six, pg. 127 it says;

 “The inhabitants of ancient America not only used steel, but they also mined and refined numerous metals, including iron. After the colonists had arrived in America and Nephi had become the leader of the Nephites, he taught them many industries.”

      What is so incredulous about this is the fact that the LDS archaeologists are purportedly down in Mesoamerica in the temples of people who performed human sacrifices and they’re claiming these are the holy people of God in the Book of Mormon?!  If these are the people of their god I am utterly grateful that I got out of Mormonism!

 15 – Millet

 Ether 9:17-18; “Having all manner of fruit, and of grain, and of silks, and of fine linen, and of gold, and of silver, and of precious things;18 And also all manner of cattle, of oxen, and cows, and of sheep, and of swine, and of goats, and also many other kinds of animals which were useful for the food of man.”

      The reason I bring up the subject of millet is because of what the Book of Mormon claims they used.  As you can see in the passage above they claim they grew grains of all kinds.  Millet is a grain that has been around since BC 4,500 so it stands to reason they would have this on hand coming from the Middle East.  (17)

     Yet once again here we see how the experts from the Church speculate on what Smith may have meant when he “translated” the plates while downplaying a written work by Deanne Matheny about the topography of the Tehuantepec Geography called “Does the Shoe Fit?”  In FARMS review of Books, vol. 6, no. 1 (1994): pg. 337 it says;

 “…millet, introduced by the Spaniards in Yucatan and said in the sixteenth century to grow “marvelously well,” could not be located at all in the Carnegie Institution’s botanical inventory of the area early this century. The same might have been the case with the seeds brought with Lehi’s party and planted (but, realize, only after at least nine years of being hoarded through the Arabian desert; they may or may not have been healthy by then, and the new moist tropical environment would hardly welcome desertic Near Eastern grains). Yet realize that nothing is said in the text about the species those seeds represented…”

      It is one thing to have to defend the works of what you believe in, but why do you have to defend every single thing that continually defies logic and the historical truth?  While mankind will never be able to explain every single thing in the Bible, I believe there’s a huge difference between taking what God says on faith and because He’s proven Himself time and again; to defending things over and over that never prove themselves to be true at all.  It must be exhausting to say the least.

 16 – Pigs/Swine

 Ether 9:18; “And also all manner of cattle, of oxen, and cows, and of sheep, and of swine, and of goats, and also many other kinds of animals which were useful for the food of man.”

      There are times when I go out of my way to try and give Smith the benefit of the doubt; this is not one of those times!  Every time I see the above verse I am reminded of an eye-opening experience I had with my mother in Ogden, Utah while ordering an Egg-McMuffin of all things at a McDonald’s.

     We pulled up to the drive through window and I placed our order, with the direction that I wanted only the egg with no meat on my sandwich.  When we got to the pick-up window I checked my order and sure enough my sandwich had a slice of ham on it.

     While they were exchanging my order, I made an off-hand comment out loud.  I said; “What if I were Jewish and I couldn’t eat it”?  I had never seen such a blank look on my mother’s face before.  After a few moments of silence she told me that I was being very rude to the Jews.

     I then asked her what she meant by that and she told me she couldn’t explain it, but wondered what the Jews had to do with my order.

     This is when the absurdity of the Church irritates me to no end.  Here I have my own mother not knowing enough about Jewish culture to know that they don’t eat pork, good grief.  Thanks a lot Joe. My heart just broke for her and the other Mormons who’ve bought into this lie.  How very sad.

     Shouldn’t a man of God who is supposedly translating a holy work for the people know that Jews don’t eat pork?  And why wouldn’t you be teaching your congregants about Jewish culture if you’re proclaiming that you’re the true Jews?  (See Mormon Doctrine, pg. 311.)

     It is well documented historical fact that the swine came to America from Europe through the Spanish explorers.  (18)  From the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources it says this about the domestic pig in America;

 “Domestic pigs were introduced from Europe to the Americas by Spanish explorers. Over time, some pigs escaped or were intentionally released into the wild. Subsequently, free-ranging, feral populations established themselves on American soil.”

      I also found further information on the domestic pig on a Google timeline website and it said;

      1493 – North American pigs originated from wild stocks still found in European, Asian and North African forests. Wild pigs are not truly native to North America but are believed to have been introduced after Columbus’ second journey in 1493. Domestic pigs are …North American pigs originated from wild stocks still found in European, Asian and North African forests. Wild pigs are not truly native to North America but are believed to have been introduced after Columbus’ second journey in 1493. Domestic pigs are categorized according to three basic types: large-framed lard types with a thick layer of fat; bacon types that weigh about 150 pounds; and pigs prized for their meat.”  (19)

 17 – Rice

 Enos 1:21; “And it came to pass that the people of Nephi did till the land, and raise all manner of grain, and of fruit, and flocks of herds, and flocks of all manner of cattle of every kind, and goats, and wild goats and also many horse.”

      Now in the above description provided by the Church, you’d have to believe the Nephites had all types of grains; rice included.

     If someone in the Church tells you there is no proof they had rice ask them what grain exactly they are talking about.  Have them be specific, just as the Bible is!

     It is a known fact that rice didn’t make an arrival to the Americas until 1694.  It was imported through Madagascar and grown primarily in South Carolina and Georgia where there was an abundance of slaves.  The slave owners did this purposefully as they knew full well they’d have someone to cultivate this crop at a prolific rate considering the slaves already knew how to grow rice.  (20)

 18 – SILK

 Alma 4:6; “And it came to pass in the eighth year of the reign of the judges, that the people of the church began to wax proud, because of their exceeding riches, and their fine silks, and their fine-twined linen, and because of their many flocks and herds, and their gold and their silver, and all manner of precious things, which they had obtained by their industry; and in all these things were they lifted up in the pride of their eyes, for they began to wear very costly apparel.”

      Surfing around on the net I found many interesting facts about silk but I think the most concise explanation of it came from the official site of the Silk Road.  With the information I was able to glean, it became painfully obvious there was no way the Nephites had the ability to have silk in their possession in 37 BC.

     What also convinced me this was impossible is when I learned how arduous of a process it was to produce silk.  You have to wonder how Nephi could’ve kept this up and then passed down the traditions all the way to Alma which is where we see the first sign of the people in possession of silk.

     According to reports silk was first produced in China circa 3,000 BC and could only be used for the emperor, his family and selected dignitaries.  This went on until 550 AD when two Nestorian monks smuggled some of the silkworm eggs out in hollow bamboo staves.  Once this took place China’s complete monopoly on the silk trade was done and allowed the industry to spread to the Middle East.

     This website reports that silk was a very demanding process which needs very close attention and while this takes place two things must be adhered to; perfecting the diet of the moth and prevention of the hatching out of the moth.  The eggs had to be kept at 65 degrees Fahrenheit being raised gradually to 77 degrees so they could hatch.

     While maintaining the same temperature once the baby worm hatches they must be fed every half hour around the clock on fresh hand-picked white mulberry leaves which are unique to China.  At this time they said the baby worms are kept on trays stacked on top of each other while it multiplies its weight 10,000 times within a month and sheds its skin several times.  (21)

     On the contrary this is what the Church says in FARMS Review of Books, vol. 4 (1992): pg. 209 while denouncing the Tanners work Mormonism, Shadow or Reality.  Once again we have an explaining away of the evidentiary truth.

 “The term silk is not limited to the fiber produced y the Asian moth, but can also refer generally to something silk-like.  There were a number of substances in pre-Columbian Central America that would have fit this Book of Mormon description.  Silk-like fiber was gathered from the pod of the Ceiba tree in Yucatan and spun.  The wild pineapple plant in tropical America produced a silky fiber that was greatly prized by Mesoamericans.  The Aztecs even made silk-like fabric from rabbit hair.  Some of the earl conquerors referred to these substances as “silk”.  Certainly, any number of such substances could fit the Book of Mormon designation of silk (Alma 1:23; 4:6).

      If the material that the Nephites made were silk-like then why doesn’t it say so?  How difficult would it have been to include such a thing?  You really think that someone like my mother would know that it wasn’t really silk?

 19 – Steel

 Jarom 1:8; “And we multiplied exceedingly, and spread upon the face of the land, and became exceedingly rich in gold, and in silver, and in precious things, and in fine workmanship of wood, in buildings, and in machinery, and also in iron and copper, and brass and steel, making all manner of tools of every kind to till the ground, and weapons of war—yea, the sharp pointed arrow, and the quiver, and the dart, and the javelin, and all preparations for war.”

      According to the Wikipedia website on the history of ancient steel it says;

 “Some of the first steel comes from East Africa, dating back to 1400 BC.[10] In the 4th century BC steel weapons like the Falcata were produced in the Iberian Peninsula, while Noric steel was used by the Roman military.”  (22)

      The article goes on to say this about modern steel making in America;

 “The modern era in steelmaking began with the introduction of Henry Bessemer‘s Bessemer process in 1858[20]. This enabled steel to be produced in large quantities cheaply, so that mild steel is now used for most purposes for which wrought iron was formerly used.

      There doesn’t seem to be getting around this one!  How would the Nephites have the knowhow to make this type of steel here in America circa BC 420?  Another great website on the history of steel making can be found at the link below.

      As you can see from all the items I’ve listed here I did not use all items the National Geographic Society or the Smithsonian cited in their letters about the Book of Mormon.  I left out just a few items that are easy enough for anyone to do a search for on the internet for further study.

     If you are LDS and have questions there are other resources available to you that goes into much greater detail than what I’ve provided here.  We have a DVD that we can send you at no charge if you’re interested in taking a look at what the experts have found, it’s called DNA and the Book of Mormon.  Above all, know that we provide this information to you out of love and we pray for you daily.

 With Love in Christ;

Michelle

Responses to the Book of Mormon

For years we have heard from the missionaries that the Smithsonian Institute and National Geographic have both corroborated the historicity of the Book of Mormon.  I’ve been told by countless missionaries that all I had to do was contact them for the information so that is what I did via e-mail.  The following are their responses to my inquiry.

9/10/2004

Dear Sir or Madam;

I am looking for information from the Smithsonian Institute that will help me verify that you do/do not have anthropological evidence that there was a large civilization that supposedly existed in the Americas that the Book of Mormon claims.  I’ve been told by countless people that your organization holds maps, etc of said finds.  I’ve also been shown letters from you to other people that there is no such evidence of the Mormon Church.  Any help you could provide me with would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Michelle Grim

Life After Ministries

10/27/2004

Dear Michelle Grim:

National GeographicThank you for contacting the National Geographic Society.

The National Geographic Society has not examined the historical claims of the Book of Mormon.  We know of no archaeological evidence that corroborates the ancient history of the Western Hemisphere as presented in the Book of Mormon, nor are we aware of empirical verification of the places named in the Book of Mormon.

The Book of Mormon is clearly a work of great spiritual power; millions have read and revered its words, first published by Joseph Smith in 1830.

Yet Smith’s narration is not generally taken as a scientific source for the history of the Americas. Archaeologists and other scholars have long probed the hemisphere’s past, and the Society does not know of anything found so far that has substantiated the Book of Mormon.

In fact, students of prehistoric America by and large conclude that the New World’s earliest inhabitants arrived from Asia via the Bering land bridge.

(Lower sea levels during ice ages exposed the continental shelf beneath Bering Strait, allowing generations of ancient Siberians to migrate east.) National Geographic carried the article “Hunt for the First Americans” and the map supplement “The Dawn of Humans: Peopling of the Americas” in the December 2000 issue, perhaps on your library’s shelf.

You might want to write the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History and ask for their latest statement on this topic.  You can write the museum in care  of P.O. Box 37012, Washington, D.C.  20013-7012.

I hope this information proves helpful.

Lisa Walker

Research Correspondence

Dear Sir or Madam;

I am looking for information from the Smithsonian Institue that will help me verify that you do/do not have anthropological evidence that there was a large civilization that supposedly existed in the Americas that the Book of Mormon claims.  I’ve been told by countless people that your organization holds maps, etc of said finds.  I’ve also been shown letters from you to other people that there is no such evidence of the Mormon Church.  Any help you could provide me with would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Michelle Grim

This morning I awoke to a news alert from Google directing me to a story in the Salt Lake Tribune.  The headlines of the story read like a Mormon probably picked the title and if not Mormon, then they’ve been in Utah too long and picked up the lingo of the locals.

Concerned Christians produced and distributed 5,000 DVDs (The Bible vs. Joseph Smith) showing the contradictions between the Bible and Mormonism.

The problem I have with all this is the way even the liberal Salt Lake Tribune arbitrarily decided what’s good and what isn’t.

You’d think they might find a problem with their grammatical choices by the response the Church gave out.  The Church hasn’t seen it but they know it’s a lie.  So because the Church says that Concerned Christians is lying and the Church says it’s “Anti-Mormon”, they’re right and no further investigation is needed?  Why didn’t they question the spokeswoman of the Church about her statement?

Whatever happened to good journalistic skills?

For the record – we’re praying for Andy and the entire staff at Concerned Christians.  Experience has taught me personally with handing out DVD’s and other informative materials in bulk like this, there will indeed be Mormons who come to know the truth.  Praise God!

Firing Squad and the Mormons

 Journal of Discourses 4:220;This is loving our neighbour as ourselves; if he needs help, help him; and if he wants salvation and it is necessary to spill his blood on the earth in order that he may be saved, spill it. Any of you who understand the principles of eternity, if you have sinned a sin requiring the shedding of blood, except the sin unto death, would not be satisfied nor rest until your blood should be spilled, that you might gain that salvation you desire. That is the way to love mankind.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, February 8, 1857

 Mormon Doctrine, pg. 92;But under certain circumstances there are some serious sins for which the cleansing of Christ does not operate, and the law of God is that men must then have their own blood shed to atone for their sins. Murder, for instance, is one of these sins; hence we find the Lord commanding capital punishment.

 Doctrines of Salvation 1:133;But man may commit certain grievous sins-according to his light and knowledge-that will place him beyond the reach of the atoning blood of Christ. If then he would be saved he must make sacrifice of his own life to atone-so far as in his power lies-for that sin, for the blood of Christ alone under certain circumstances will not avail.  …Do you believe this doctrine? If not, then I do say you do not believe in the true doctrine of the atonement of Christ. This is the doctrine you are pleased to call the “blood atonement of Brighamism.” This is the doctrine of Christ our Redeemer, who died for us. This is the doctrine of Joseph Smith, and I accept it….To these I will add: “Whoso killeth any person, the murderer shall be put to death by the mouth of witnesses…

 Doctrines of Salvation 1:135;Joseph Smith taught that there were certain sins so grievous that man may commit, that they will place the transgressors beyond the power of the atonement of Christ. If these offenses are committed, then the blood of Christ will not cleanse them from their sins even though they repent. Therefore their only hope is to have their own blood shed to atone, as far as possible, in their behalf. This is scriptural doctrine, and is taught in all the standard works of the Church.

 D&C 42:79; And it shall come to pass, that if any persons among you shall kill they shall be delivered up and dealt with according to the laws of the land; for remember that he hath no forgiveness; and it shall be proved according to the laws of the land.

      The references above provide a clear understanding of what the Mormon Church has thought of blood atonement through the years and how it continues to see it.  The reason we’re highlighting this particular teaching of the Church is because of what’s taking place in Utah as this I’m writing this.

     In 2004 Utah changed its rules on capital punishment.  As it stands today, if you’ve received the death penalty you will die by lethal injection with the exception of 4 men who sit on death row.  Their sentences have been grandfathered into the new law passed seven years ago.  Those four men have chosen to die by firing squad.  The last person choosing this method was John Albert Taylor who stood in front of 5 prison guards in 1996.

         The date of the next execution by firing squad in Utah will take place in June 2010 – the offender is a Mr. Ronnie Lee Gardner.  In 1984 Gardner was on his way to his court sentencing after being convicted on a robbery and murder charge when he tried to escape.  In the melee he shot and killed a defense attorney and injured a court bailiff.  (His girlfriend had snuck a gun into the courtroom for him.)  His repertoire also includes an escape from a minimum security facility, stabbing somebody over 100 times, breaking into a home to initiate a gunfight and the malicious attack of a couple of prison guards in a medium security prison.

     If that wasn’t enough he also tried to escape from a medical appointment and in so doing, bashed in a guard’s face and kidnapped a med student at gunpoint.  He’s been on death row since 1985.  And here we are today, April 23, 2010.

      Third District Judge Robin Reese signed Gardner’s death warrant after asking him if he still wanted to die by firing squad.  Gardner’s reply:  “I would like the firing squad please”.  And yes, he is a Mormon.

      The question for us at Life After Ministries isn’t about the worldview of capital punishment.  It’s about the inconsistencies in the doctrines of the Mormon Church and the lies they tell about the Bible.  If you’re LDS and you’ve murdered someone there’s no salvation for you unless you’ve shed your own blood.

      According to the teachings of the Church, King David will not receive a true salvation.  (1)  The apostle Paul and even Moses should be banned from enjoying life in the hereafter because they all have the same thing in common as Mr. Gardner. They’re all murderers.  Ironically, the rules don’t apply to Moses and Paul like they did to King David.  The Mormon’s silence on their salvation status is deafening.  And while I’m here on this earth long enough to talk about this I will continue to do so!

 In the eyes of the Mormon god there is no way to atone for your murderous sin unless you have your own blood shed for that crime.

  Did Moses shed his blood to atone for the murder he was guilty of?  No.  Deut. 34:5-7.

  Did King David shed his blood to atone for the murder he was guilty of?  No.  1 Kings 2:10-11.

     What about the apostle Paul?  Again, we know the answer to this question is also no.  There are no biblical accounts on the death of Paul.  Tradition has it that he was beheaded and buried in Rome.  If you’re LDS and you’re thinking, “hey his blood was shed”, you’re wrong.  Paul was beheaded for being a follower of Jesus, not for the murderous rampage he took part in before his salvation.

  However, here we have Ronnie Gardner maliciously murdering innocent people and he is going to have the opportunity to go to the Celestial Kingdom all because of his incredible “sacrifice” of having his own blood shed for his sin.  (See references above.)

     Now let’s take a look at how this is done, shall we?  In addition to the shedding of his own blood he will need someone to do his temple work for him.

         Temple worthy family members can take out endowments for deceased relatives in their local temple one year to the day after that deceased person’s death.  (2)

     Never mind the fact we’re living in the New Testament era, or the fact this man isn’t remotely close to being in the same league as the power houses of the Bible.  Oh, and did I mention the New Testament era?  Hmmm…whatever happened to our Lord hanging on that cross for everyone’s sins, including Mr. Gardner’s?

     For those not familiar with the ritual of “taking out endowments”, let me explain.  An active, temple worthy member of the LDS Church has the opportunity to stand as a “savior on the mountain” for relatives who’ve died and not accepted Jesus into their lives.  They do this through performing proxy works in the temple for that deceased person. (3)

     There are a number of things to participate in and works to perform in the temple so the deceased person will have the opportunity to once again accept Jesus into their lives.  It also serves as a way for you to earn your own salvation.

 Baptism by proxy for the dead

Confirmation to become a member and receive the Holy Ghost by proxy for the dead

Ordination into the priesthood by proxy for the dead

Sealings to spouses for eternal marriages by proxy for the dead

Sealings of children by proxy for the dead

 (The above information was retrieved from www.ldsendowment.org on 4/24/10)

      Works for the dead violates every teaching in the New Testament you can imagine.  Let’s take just a handful of examples for beginners, and leave others for you to investigate.  Let’s begin with the fact this is necromancy!

      Deuteronomy 18:11 explicitly tells us that consulting with the dead is forbidden.

     Luke 16:19-31.  Here we have Jesus giving a parable about the rich man and Lazarus.  The rich man of course wants for someone to relay a message from him to his family members who are still alive that where he ended up is horrible.  Jesus is very clear when He told the Pharisees about the chasm set in the afterlife and how no one can warn his family for him.  You’ve got one chance while you’re here on earth.

     Jesus told His disciple Thomas He is “the way, the truth and the life” in John 14:6.  Remember the “highway” spoken of in Isaiah 35:6?

     What about John 19:30?  “When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said,  It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.”

     Hebrews 9:11-14 – only the blood of Jesus qualifies for the redemption of sins.

     Hebrews 10:10-14 – priests keep offering sacrifices in the temples and none of them are deemed worthy.  And if you think this is the worst of the bad scenario that wouldn’t end – there’s more.

     What in the world do you think you’re doing trying to atone for your awful sin?  Is murder worse than stealing a pen from your work place?  By the law of the land it certainly is, but in God’s eyes?  Sin is sin my friend.  We must follow the law of the land so yes, there are consequences for our behavior, but that does not mean God thinks any less of the murderer than he does the thief.

     The catch you say?  The “catch” is that none of us are good enough to get into heaven without Jesus’ precious spilled blood.  Not you, certainly not me and definitely not anyone who’s trying to do it themselves.

     The only way to heaven is through the cross.  Galatians 2:16 & 20 says;

 “Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

      Notice Paul didn’t say  just a little bit of work is required for this one thing…no!  Paul said we are justified by the faith of Christ, and not by works.

     Are you tired?  Are you heavy laden?  Jesus’ yoke is for you!  Matthew 11:28-30.  I remember being a Mormon and being exhausted all the time.  It didn’t matter if I was active or not in the Church, I carried the spirit of Mormonism around with me  and took it with me everywhere I went – Utah, Oklahoma, Idaho, California, Germany, Vegas, Tahoe, Washington…I kept unpacking the habits, the traditions, the “have to’s and must do’s” and I was very “lowly in heart”.

     Worse than that is the man sitting on death row at the Point of the Mountain in Bluffdale, Utah right now.  As if he didn’t have enough to think about, he’s obviously got his own atonement to think about.

     Let me be clear about something.  I used to not feel sorry for people like Mr. Gardiner, but as I’ve aged and grown in the Lord, my heart hurts for the messes he’s caused for himself and everyone who had the misfortune of coming near him. And yes, I strongly believe his punishment is just. I also feel horrible that he’s been lied to and might not come to the cross of the true Jesus.  The Mormon god offers nothing but a perverted gospel of Joseph Smith.  It has nothing to offer to the man in prison today or for the man who’s imprisoned by his works for the dead in the Mormon Church.  May God have mercy on them both.

     Know we’re praying for all the Mormon people; our hearts break for them each and every day.  If you or someone you know would like further information, don’t hesitate to call or e-mail us anytime!

 With Love in Christ;

Michelle

Anti-Mormon vs. Anti-Mormonism

      When I was a Mormon a name they used for anyone who opposed the Church was “anti-Mormon”. The term anti-Mormon covers a huge spectrum to the members of the Mormon Church. There’s a mindset within the Church that if you aren’t with them you’re against them. They expect Christians to just ignore the major doctrinal differences between Mormonism and mainline Christianity. They want all of us to just accentuate the positive things about their religion, not worrying about the rest.

     Granted, there are groups that do appear to be less than kind to the Mormon people and there are others who can love the Mormon people while at the same time highly disagree with the doctrines of the Mormon Church. Many of the Mormons I have spoken with have told me that they see no difference between someone politely conversing with them using the Bible and someone screeching at them on a street corner, sign in hand telling them they’re going to hell. Both instances are perceived to be anti-Mormon, and enemies of the Church.

     Through this experience I’ve come to the conclusion that it doesn’t matter how you try to present the Gospel to the lost they will still find offense to it. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is offensive to those who don’t believe. Especially to the Mormons when you try to show them how the doctrines of their religion are not in line with the Bible. You may wonder as I have why the LDS think that people, who oppose the doctrines of their church, oppose them as well. In the process of reading and researching for this article I found the following quote;

 “Brothers and sisters, pray for the critics of the Church; love your enemies”. Spencer W. Kimball, Ensign May 1980

     Two years later he says it again. “Be of good cheer, for the Lord is guiding His church. Brothers and sisters, pray for the critics of the Church; love your enemies.” (Ensign May 1982)

     These quotes bring me to the title of this article. There is a huge difference in being against the Mormon people (anti-Mormon) and being against the doctrines of the Mormon Church (anti-Mormonism).

     For a Mormon to call someone an “anti-Mormon” is to call them something that is profane and vile. At least this is how the name was perceived when I was a Mormon. If a fellow church member called something or someone an anti-Mormon I knew to stay away. In Mormonism there’s an underlying persecution complex in the mindset of the Mormon. It usually kicks in not long after they are baptized into the Church when non-LDS friends and family start voicing their concerns about Mormonism.

     The new member may be exposed to literature that’s not church approved and paints the Church in a bad light, or they may run across someone who is a former Mormon who tells them about their exodus out of Mormonism. It’s just easier for the Mormons to slap the anti-Mormon label on an individual’s forehead or the cover of a book rather than take a step back and consider if there are valid concerns to be had about the Church.

     I know there maybe a few people in the world who are against the Mormon people for whatever reason, I’m not going to dispute that. Generally speaking, the people the Mormons are so quick to call their enemies and other names are just people who disagree with the doctrines of the Mormon Church. They have compared and contrasted their findings about Mormonism to Biblical research. I’m not talking about pulling stuff out of the air or off any random website discussing Mormonism.

     These people honestly looked at the historicity of Mormonism, its leaders, and its scripture. So if people are honestly researching, reading the materials the Mormon Church has already provided, and from there draw their own conclusion that Mormonism is a fraud, does that still make them “anti-Mormon” or does it make them “anti-Mormonism”?

     I believe the problem of being quick to judge someone who opposes the Church stems from the notion the Mormons have that tells them “they are their religion”. They put on a pure, happy, clean cut image for the world. When someone speaks against their church, while bringing up historical facts about their religion it tarnishes the way they want to be seen. I think maybe when someone shows them the truth about their religion; on some level it hurts their ego. With all those thoughts bouncing around in their heads it’s no wonder the moment someone makes a less than flattering remark about the Mormon Church they go into a defensive mode and think they are being attacked.

     I would love for the Mormon to understand that we aren’t against them. Sadly I know as long as they believe only their Church holds all the keys to salvation, they may never see the difference in an anti-Mormon and someone who is anti-Mormonism.

 In Christ,

Melissa Grimes (melissa@lifeafter.org)

Are Jesus & Lucifer Brothers?

      Are Jesus and Lucifer are Brothers?I grew up on the east side of Ogden, Utah in the sixties and seventies directly across the street from a Seventh-day Adventist church.  At that time there were very few non-LDS neighbors, even with the “weird church” (as we called it) across from us.  That is to say, except the neighbors to the right of us.

     For whatever reason that particular house only held its owners in for a year or two at a time and none of them were LDS.  I recall one family had a son and daughter who was roughly my age and the little girl would sometimes be allowed to play with us, but never at our home.  One day while we were playing on her swing set, she announced she wasn’t allowed to play at my house because we weren’t Christians.  When I asked her what she meant by that, she replied by saying, “You think Jesus and Lucifer are brothers and that’s not Christian”.

     Just as her final words came tumbling from her mouth I gave it my all to touch the sky in that last push on the swing.  It seemed I was in the air forever after coming out of my swing.  I wasn’t so sure the sinking feeling in my gut was a result of my record setting jump or from her blunt analysis of what makes a Christian a Christian.

     I was left with a dark icky feeling all over.  I knew what she said about the Church’s teachings was truth, but I had always been taught it wasn’t something you wanted to go and blab your mouth about in public.  To hear those words coming out of someone’s mouth while not in a ward building startled me.  And then to think she wasn’t even one of us; well, that just compounded my feeling of “ickiness” even more!

     Now with the advent of the political campaigns, the subject of one of the candidate’s faith is in the forefront of many people’s thoughts.  Websites and phone lines are abuzz with questions and innuendos from those who are seeking the truth about Mormonism.  In light of all this; here it is.

 Truth:

The LDS Church has always taught that Jesus and Lucifer are brothers!

     I’ve spent my entire 44 years of life dealing with the Mormon faith and people.  As a sixth generation Mormon from Utah, I spent the first thirty years in the Church.  The remainder of that time has been in ministry offering them hope and showing there is a way out!

     Earlier this week I spent about five minutes on the official website of the Mormon Church at www.lds.org  I’ve listed just a few references from their perspective of who Jesus is and the basics of what they believe regarding this one topic.  The references are taken from their website and my personal collection of LDS works respectively.  It’s to be understood that this one teaching of Jesus isn’t some obscure doctrine plucked from the basement of a sermon given some 150 years ago.  This teaching is a staple in the LDS psyche.

 1 – The following question and answer can be found on their website

“How can Jesus and Lucifer be spirit brothers when their characters and purposes are so utterly opposed?”

Jess L. Christensen, “I Have a Question,” Ensign, June 1986, 25–26; Jess L. Christensen, Institute of Religion director at Utah State University, Logan, Utah.

On first hearing, the doctrine that Lucifer and our Lord, Jesus Christ, are brothers may seem surprising to some—especially to those unacquainted with latter-day revelations. But both the scriptures and the prophets affirm that Jesus Christ and Lucifer are indeed offspring of our Heavenly Father and, therefore, spirit brothers. Jesus Christ was with the Father from the beginning. Lucifer, too, was an angel “who was in authority in the presence of God,” a “son of the morning.” (See Isa. 14:12; D&C 76:25–27.) Both Jesus and Lucifer were strong leaders with great knowledge and influence. But as the Firstborn of the Father, Jesus was Lucifer’s older brother. (See Col. 1:15; D&C 93:21.)”

 “How could two such great spirits become so totally opposite? The answer lies in the principle of agency, which has existed from all eternity. (See D&C 93:30–31.) Of Lucifer, the scripture says that because of rebellion “he became Satan, yea, even the devil, the father of all lies.” (Moses 4:4.) Note that he was not created evil, but became Satan by his own choice.”

 “When our Father in Heaven presented his plan of salvation, Jesus sustained the plan and his part in it, giving the glory to God, to whom it properly belonged. Lucifer, on the other hand, sought power, honor, and glory only for himself. (See Isa. 14:13–14; Moses 4:1–2.) When his modification of the Father’s plan was rejected, he rebelled against God and was subsequently cast out of heaven with those who had sided with him. (See Rev. 12:7–9; D&C 29:36–37.)”

 That brothers would make dramatically different choices is not unusual. It has happened time and again, as the scriptures attest: Cain chose to serve Satan; Abel chose to serve God. (See Moses 5:16–18.) Esau “despised his birthright”; Jacob wanted to honor it. (Gen. 25:29–34.) Joseph’s brothers sought to kill him; he sought to preserve them. (Gen. 37:12–24; Gen. 45:3–11.)”

 2 – A quick search produced this article by Robert D. Hales, “The Aaronic Priesthood: Return with Honor,” Ensign May 1990, 39;

 “We cannot remember that we once lived with our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and that we probably sat in meetings much like this, where the Father’s plan for us was explained. We cannot remember that Lucifer, a son of God the Father, a brother of Jesus Christ, rebelled against God’s plan and, in his rebellion, promised he would bring us all back home. But Lucifer would have denied us our free agency, the freedom to make decisions. We cannot remember that his plan was not accepted by us because, without choice, there would not have been a purpose for coming to this mortal probation. We would not have had opposition or repentance. We would not have learned obedience.

  3 – The article we’ve listed here is just as damning and blasphemous as the previous one.  It is hard for me to imagine that I used to believe the same thing.  It was originally a speech called “The Great Imitator” given by James E. Faust.  You can find it on the link provided or search their website for the Ensign, Nov. 1987, pg. 33.

“Satan became the devil by seeking glory, power, and dominion by force (see Moses 4:3–4). But Jesus, chosen “from the beginning” (Moses 4:2), said unto God, “Father, thy will be done, and the glory be thine forever” (Moses 4:2). What a contrast in approaches! Wrong as his plan was, Satan was persuasive enough to entice one-third of the hosts of heaven to follow him (see D&C 29:36; Rev. 12:4). He practiced a great deception by saying, I am also a son of God (Moses 5:13).”

4 – This last quote is taken from the work of Don H. Peterson, Pearl of Great Price: A History and Commentary, pp. 141-142;

“”Long before you were born a program was developed by your creators. There was rebellion in the ranks. The proposed program called for total controls by each individual of his personal life, including restraints, sacrifices, and self-mastery…”But thank God that there were enough sane and sagacious souls on the side of truth and wisdom and the rebellious souls were vanquished as to the eternal and ultimate program. The principal personalities in this great drama were a Father Elohim, perfect in wisdom, judgment, and person, and two sons, Lucifer and Jehovah.” (Spencer W. Kimball, Teachings of Spencer W.       I realize my swing set experience was more than thirty years ago, but I can assure you the teachings of the Church have not changed for this one.  They still hold fast and true to the doctrine of the pre-existence and the war in heaven.  They still teach there was a council of gods that gathered to create the earth and they still teach that Jesus and Lucifer are brothers.

     If you’re LDS, take a few moments of your day and do a study about Jesus.  There is no doubt in my mind the LDS people love Him.  I am speaking from thirty years of experience.

     There are many venues to employ in your research.  The first suggestion is an article from our site and the others are independent resources which are very reliable.  Don’t take my word for it – check them out!

“Martyrdom” of Joseph

Gospel Kingdom, pg. 360; “He, however, instantly arose, and with a firm, quick step, and a determined expression of countenance, approached the door, and pulling the six-shooter left by Brother Wheelock from his pocket, opened the door slightly, and snapped the pistol six successive times. Only three of the barrels, however, were discharged. I afterwards understood that two or three were wounded by these discharges, two of whom, I am informed, died. – John Taylor (Third prophet of the Church.)

Joseph Smith Descriptions

         Google the name of Joseph Smith and you’ll find a plethora of websites that either lauds the praises of Smith or those who show vehement hatred for the man.  My objective for this list of descriptions isn’t to show hatred towards him because I don’t feel hatred for Joseph Smith; however, I am saddened for my people that have chosen to believe in his odious lies.  Our objective for producing articles such as these is to inform and educate.

     Aside from the LDS hymn “Praise to the Man”, let’s find out just how much the Mormon people love the false prophet Joseph Smith.  If the Mormon will stay on this site long enough to see just one egregious falsehood about Smith and begin thinking about it, then I’ve done the job God has given me to do.  Our main objective isn’t to sensationalize, but to inform and lead my people into the ever loving arms of our God and Savior Christ Jesus.

20 Helps for Mormon Friends and Loved Ones

 1 – Word studies.  See if your Mormon friends would be interested in doing a word study with you!  These are great for the new ex-Mormon as well as for the Mormon.  Just pick your favorite word/topic from the Bible, find all the places in the Bible where this word is used to get the full context and share with each other what you’ve learned.  Make sure you both use a reputable concordance and dictionary.  Also let them know their opinion counts, that what they have to say matters to you personally.  You don’t have to agree with their opinion, but their spiritual condition obviously matters to you or you wouldn’t bother trying.

 2 – Go out of your way to share with the Mormon what Jesus did for you today.  Use scripture to back it up.  Show them how you applied that scripture to make it a personal message from the Lord to you.  Teach them how to read the Bible as a personal letter from God to them personally.

 3 – Invite them to non-threatening events at your church, i.e. women’s teas, men’s breakfasts, dessert theaters, etc. Let them be around Christian ‘things’ as much as possible, i.e., the cross, Bibles that usually lay around churches, actual people inside the church building in the daytime if possible during the week, etc.

 4 – Listen to Christian music while they’re around you so they can hear the words.  Most Christian hymns and songs contain scripture.  Isaiah 55:11 says His words will not return void.

 5 – Have your Bible open to various passages of scripture when they visit.

 6 – Make sure you’re the one that does the praying if the occasion arises and grab their hand to hold it during prayer.  Never fold your arms while praying with a Mormon and don’t allow them to do the praying.  They are not praying to the true God of the Bible, therefore this isn’t something you’d want to submit yourself to either.

 7 – Ask them various questions about their church.  As you know this may cause animosity at some point but it does give them something to think about.  Ask why they have to store food when Jesus told us in the Bible not to worry about tomorrow when it has troubles of its own – Matthew 6:34.  Who is more credible to them personally – Joseph and the living prophet or Jesus Christ; then ask why.

 8 – Ask what their favorite verse is in the Book of Mormon and why.  Tell them you’ve learned the major tenets of Mormonism are not in the Book of Mormon and ask if this is true.  If they say they are, prod them by asking what is in it and where specifically the teaching is located.

 9 – Ask why they don’t have crosses in their homes or wear them in a necklace.  Ask how they feel about the cross and share with them what the cross means to you personally.

 10 – Ask them why God would need Satan to fulfill his plan for mankind. 2 Nephi 2:11; “For it must needs be, that there is an opposition in all things. If not so, my first-born in the wilderness, righteousness could not be brought to pass, neither wickedness, neither holiness nor misery, neither good nor bad…”  This is actually a basic tenet within Witchcraft.  Witchcraft believes there must be an equal balance in all things; good for bad and bad for good.  In other words, yin yang.

 11 – Ask them why the book of Jacob says not to practice polygamy but the Doctrine and Covenants says it means exaltation in the Celestial Kingdom (their highest kingdom of heaven).  Jacob 2:24; D&C 132:4-7.

 12 – Ask for their opinion about D&C 1:37 which says the commandments in that book are true and everything will be fulfilled.  Polygamy was outlawed in 1890.

 13 – Ask how dead people can repent.  How can dead people pay a penalty for their transgressions?  Why did Jesus say “It is finished” in John 19:30?  How can dead people work for their salvation?

                                               D&C 138:58-59; “The dead who repent will be redeemed, through obedience to the ordinances of the house of God,  59 And after they have paid the penalty of their transgressions, and are washed clean, shall receive a reward according to their works, for they are heirs of salvation.

 14 – Ask what they think of the following information;

 2 Nephi 9:9 describes Satan.  “…yea, to that being that who beguiled our first parents, who transformeth himself into an angel of light, and stirreth up the children of men unto secret combinations of murder and all manner of secret works of darkness”.

 1976 Introductory page of Doctrine & Covenants describes Moroni.  “This took place in the early spring of 1820.  In September 1823, and at later times, Joseph Smith received visitations from Moroni, an angel of light, who revealed the resting place of the ancient record from which the Book of Mormon was afterward translated”.

 Joseph Smith’s Testimony 1:47; “After this third visit, he again ascended into heaven as before, and I was again left to ponder on the strangeness of what I had just experienced when almost immediately after the heavenly messenger had ascended from me for the third time, the cock crowed …” (A note to the Christian:  the heavenly messenger Smith is talking about is Moroni, an angel of light.)

 Matthew 26:31-4; “Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night…Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended.  Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.” – Also see 2 Cor. 11:14.

 15 – Ask the Mormon why they have to be baptized at the age of 8 for the remission of sins if they are considered to be without sin until then.  Moroni 8:9-13.

 D&C 68:27; “And their children shall be baptized for the remission of their sins when eight years old, and receive the laying on of the hands.”

 16 – Ask why the Book of Mormon says the earth was covered in darkness for 3 days at the crucifixion of Jesus.  1 Nephi 19:10; Helaman 14:20, 27; 3 Nephi 8:3.  Compare with Matthew 27:45.  Mormons will tell you earthquakes, volcanoes, etc, lasted for 3 hours and then the darkness lasted for 3 days.  The Bible says no such thing.

 17 – Ask your Mormon loved one if they fully accept the Bible.  The answer to this question varies from person to person.  If there is some hesitation to full acceptance ask why and then offer help to investigate reliable sources outside the LDS Church to find out which scriptures have not been translated correctly.

 18 – Ask the Mormon: “if you died tonight would you go to heaven?”  Most if not all will say they don’t know.  Share your favorite passages from the Bible on how you have assurance of salvation.

 19 – Have you told your Mormon friend who Jesus is from the Bible?  Have you told them He is God incarnate & also prophesied about in the Old Testament 333 times?  Look for other interesting facts about the Bible to share.  These types of things are typically non-threatening.  If they say he is the god of this world show them 2 Cor. 4:4.

 20 –Do a simple Bible study with them just on Isaiah chapter 53.  There are 48 prophecies of Jesus in that one chapter alone and each of them has been fulfilled!  LDS doctrines teach some of these prophecies are about Joseph Smith.

Interesting Facts about the 3 in 1, pt. 5

 The reason for this work and ministry is threefold.

     3-in-1The first is to bring honor and glory to our Lord God Jesus Christ in all that we do.  The second is to provide information from the LDS Church to its members in a cohesive manner to help answer their questions.  And the third is to provide our Christian readers with truthful information about the LDS Church they can use as an effective tool for witnessing to those caught in the lies of the evil one.

     I cannot begin to tell you, the reader, how many times we’ve cried for the situation the Mormons find themselves in because we were once there ourselves and know how desperate it feels.

     Oh if I could find a way to articulate to them how much Jesus truly loves them!  And how I pray our Lord will continue to lift our heads in encouragement for those who are lost.

     The series of articles “Interesting Facts about the 3-in-1” (or triple combination) are a simple tool to get a quick glance of how the Mormon Church deliberately chooses to confuse its members.

     As I write this there is a picture of some of my family members on my laptop and my heart breaks they cannot see these simple truths.  My mother and grandmother look beyond tired.  The dark circles under their eyes speak silently to the decades of disappointments and fears.  A cousin of mine that is three years my junior looks twenty years older than me.

     Heavenly Father tells us that His word does not come back void in Isaiah 55:11.  I pray each day they will remember the glorious message of God’s love for them I was able to share when they allowed me to take their pictures just a year ago.  Twenty-eight of them gathered for a family picnic last summer…that picture sits next to my open document on the desktop of my computer screen.

     I pray you’ll be able to use these discrepancies in their own sacred works to ask them what they think.  While a few of the items provided do not come from the Triple Combination they are easy enough to find on the web.

     All materials used come directly from LDS Church writings.

Jude 1:24-25  …

 Born into Sin or Born Perfect?

 1 Nephi 20:8;Yea, and thou heardest not; yea, thou knewest not; yea, from that time thine ear was not opened; for I knew that thou wouldst deal very treacherously, and wast called a transgressor from the womb.

D&C 29:47;Wherefore, they cannot sin, for power is not given unto Satan to tempt little children, until they begin to become accountable before me.

Romans 3:23; For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.

 Ephraim, does he or does he not have descendants?

 2 Nephi 17:8-9; “For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus, Rezin; and within three score and five years shall Ephraim be broken that it be not a people.    9 And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah’s son. If ye will not believe surely ye shall not be established.” – BC 559 to 545

Answers to Gospel Questions 1:140; “Latter-day Saints pride themselves because they are of Israel; but they are also of the Gentiles. We are the descendants of those members of the house of Israel who were scattered among the Gentiles to be a blessing to the Gentile nations and make them of the blood of Israel through the gospel… The Book of Mormon came by way of the Prophet Joseph Smith, a descendant of Ephraim, yet it came “by way of the Gentile,” and in the time of the Gentiles.

Hosea 9:11-17;  As for Ephraim, their glory shall fly away like a bird, from the birth, and from the womb, and from the conception.12 Though they bring up their children, yet will I bereave them, that there shall not be a man left: yea, woe also to them when I depart from them! 13 Ephraim, as I saw Tyrus, is planted in a pleasant place: but Ephraim shall bring forth his children to the murderer. 14 Give them, O LORD: what wilt thou give? give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts. 15 All their wickedness is in Gilgal: for there I hated them: for the wickedness of their doings I will drive them out of mine house, I will love them no more: all their princes are revolters. 16 Ephraim is smitten, their root is dried up, they shall bear no fruit: yea, though they bring forth, yet will I slay even the beloved fruit of their womb. 17 My God will cast them away, because they did not hearken unto him: and they shall be wanderers among the nations.

 Who is King?

D&C 38:21-22; But, verily I say unto you that in time ye shall have no king nor ruler, for I will be your king and watch over you. 22 Wherefore, hear my voice and follow me, and you shall be a free people, and ye shall have no laws but my laws when I come, for I am your lawgiver, and what can stay my hand?

Times & Seasons 5:618; “…to build up the kingdom upon the foundation that the prophet Joseph has laid, who still holds the keys of this last dispensation, and will hold them to all eternity, as a king and priest unto the most high God, ministering in heaven, on earth, or among the spirits of the departed dead, as seemeth good to him who sent him.

Improvement Era 1909, Vol Xiii, No. 1; Every man reigns a king over the kingdom of—self. He wears the crown of individuality that no hands but his own can ever remove. He should not only reign, but—rule. His individuality is his true self, his best self, his highest self, his self victorious…Man reigns over this miniature kingdom of self—alone. He is as much an autocrat as is God in ruling the universe. No one can make him good or evil but he, himself.

1 Timothy 1:17; Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

 Baptism for Dead not Necessary

 2 Nephi 9:38; “And, in fine, wo unto all those who die in their sins; for they shall return to God, and behold his face, and remain in their sins.

D&C 124:29-30; For a baptismal font there is not upon the earth, that they, my saints, may be baptized for those who are dead—30 For this ordinance belongeth to my house, and cannot be acceptable to me, only in the days of your poverty, wherein ye are not able to build a house unto me.

Isaiah 64:6; But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

 Bible is Eternal

 2 Nephi 9:16; And assuredly, as the Lord liveth, for the Lord God hath spoken it, and it is his eternal word, which cannot pass away.

8th Article of Faith; “We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.”

Matthew 5:18; For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Matt. 24:35; “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

Prov. 30:5-6; “Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. 6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.”

 Mormon god cannot keep promise

Mosiah 27:13; “Nevertheless he cried again, saying: Alma, arise and stand forth, for why persecutest thou the church of God? For the Lord hath said: This is my church, and I will establish it; and nothing shall overthrow it, save it is the transgression of my people.”

Psalm 31:23; O love the LORD, all ye his saints: for the LORD preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.

Psalm 37:28-29; For the LORD loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.  29 The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.

 Mormon Jesus Says No to Food Storage

3 Nephi 13:31; “Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?”

D&C 109:8; Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing, and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God.

Matthew 6:31-32; Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

 Biggest Lie (one of them anyway) in Mormonism

Ether 12:11-12; “Wherefore, by faith was the law of Moses given. But in the gift of his Son hath God prepared a more excellent way; and it is by faith that it hath been fulfilled. 12 For if there be no faith among the children of men God can do no miracle among them; wherefore, he showed not himself until after their faith.”

Matthew 5:45; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

Romans 3:3-4; For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?  4 God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.

 Honestly, how is this “inspired”?

Moroni 10:1; “Now I, Moroni, write somewhat as seemeth me good…”

Jarom 1:1-2; “Now behold, I, Jarom, write a few words according to the commandment of my father, Enos, that our genealogy may be kept.  2 And as these plates are small, and as these things are written for the intent of the benefit of our brethren the Lamanites, wherefore, it must needs be that I write a little; but I shall not write the things of my prophesying, nor of my revelations. For what could I write more than my fathers have written? For have not they revealed the plan of salvation? I say unto you, Yea; and this sufficeth me.”

1 Nephi 6:3; “And it mattereth not to me that I am particular to give a full account of all the things of my father, for they cannot be written upon these plates, for I desire the room that I may write of the things of God.”

Jacob 1:1-2; “Nephi gave me, Jacob, a commandment concerning the small plates, upon which these things are engraven. 2 And he gave me, Jacob, a commandment that I should write upon these plates a few of the things which I considered to be most precious”

Omni 1:1; “Behold, it came to pass that I, Omni, being commanded by my father, Jarom, that I should write somewhat upon these plates, to preserve our genealogy.”

2 Peter 1:20-21; Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.  21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

 Who Visited Joseph that Night – Moroni or Nephi?

Introductory page of D&C 1976, 3rd paragraph; This took place in the early spring of 1820.  In September, 1823, and at later times, Joseph Smith received visitations from Moroni, an angel of light, who revealed the resting place of the ancient record from which The Book of Mormon was afterward translated.

Joseph Smith History 1:32-33; The room was exceedingly light, but not so very bright as immediately around his person. When I first looked upon him, I was afraid; but the fear soon left me.  33 He called me by name, and said unto me that he was a messenger sent from the presence of God to me, and that his name was Moroni; that God had a work for me to do; and that my name should be had for good and evil…”

Times and Seasons, vol. 3 (November 1841 – October 1842): pg. 753; “The room was exceedingly light, but not so very bright as immediately around his person. When I first looked upon him I was afraid, but the fear soon left me. He called me by name, and said unto me that he was a messenger sent from the presence of God to me, and that his name was Nephi. That God had a work for me to do, and that my name should be had for good and evil…”

2 Cor. 11:13-15; For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.  14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.  15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

Interesting Facts of the 3 – in – 1 Part 4

 Alpha and Omega – Jesus is God

     3-in-1One of the biggest shocks for me when I left the Church was finding out that Jesus is God.  I felt very small for a really long time afterwards, wondering how I had never known this big piece of theological information.

     Fifteen years later I’ve come to know how easy enough it is for all of us to become “immune” to the true meaning of every day vocabulary.  However, when you’re LDS this is compounded by not knowing that dictionaries can also be used for help when reading our Bibles to find out things like Jesus is God.

     Recently while doing research for another article I found that the use of Alpha and Omega was used so frequently in the D&C it’d be a good idea to stop and think about the meaning of this phrase. Here is how the Holman Bible Dictionary describes Alpha and Omega;

 “ALPHA – ALPHA AND OMEGA are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet and are used in Revelation to describe God or Christ (Rev. 1:8, 17; 21:6; 22:13.) “Alpha and omega” refers to God’s sovereignty and eternal nature. God and Christ are “the beginning and the end, the first and last.” (Rev. 22:13). Thus they control all history and all humans of all generations.

OMEGA  (oh mee’ guh) Last letter in the Greek alphabet. Together with the first letter, alpha, omega designates God and Christ as the all-encompassing Reality (Rev. 1:8; 21:6; 22:13).

      The idea that God and Christ control everything is simply mind boggling to me!  This God that we worship has created everything, yet knows me intimately and loves me too…there are no words to describe the comfort this brings.  Our prayer for the Mormon people is for them to know the inexpressible peace this God can bring to them as well.  I just can’t imagine Smith proclaiming this joy to the people when we read his works.  So the questions are as follows:

 Is Jesus God or not?

If He isn’t then why do several verses in D&C say that He is?

Was Joseph mistaken or was he purposefully trying to confuse members of the Church?

If God hates liars why would He allow only part of His word to be truth?

     The following list gives 22 examples of how the Mormon Church lies.  D&C 130:22 alone contradicts the examples below and does not support that Jesus is God.  There were verses in my little study I didn’t include on this list and I’m sure there are still others I’ve accidentally missed.

D&C 10:70; And now, remember the words of him who is the life and light of the world, your Redeemer, your Lord and your God. Amen.

D&C 17:9; And I, Jesus Christ, your Lord and your God, have spoken it unto you, that I might bring about my righteous purposes unto the children of men. Amen.

D&C 18:31; And I, Jesus Christ, your Lord and your God, have spoken it.

D&C 19:1; I am Alpha and Omega, Christ the Lord; yea, even I am he, the beginning and the end, the Redeemer of the world.

D&C 20:28; Which Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are one God, infinite and eternal, without end. Amen.

D&C 27:1; Listen to the voice of Jesus Christ, your Lord, your God, and your Redeemer, whose word is quick and powerful.

D&C 29:1; Listen to the voice of Jesus Christ, your Redeemer, the Great I AM, whose arm of mercy hath atoned for your sins.

D&C 34:1; My son Orson, hearken and hear and behold what I, the Lord God, shall say unto you, even Jesus Christ your Redeemer.

D&C 35:1-2; Listen to the voice of the Lord your God, even Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, whose course is one eternal round, the same today as yesterday, and forever.2 I am Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who was crucified for the sins of the world…

D&C 36:1, 8; Thus saith the Lord God, the Mighty One of Israel: Behold, I say unto you, my servant Edward, that you are blessed, and your sins are forgiven you, and you are called to preach my gospel as with the voice of a trump. 8 I am Jesus Christ, the Son of God; wherefore, gird up your loins and I will suddenly come to my temple. Even so. Amen.

D&C 38:1; Thus saith the Lord your God, even Jesus Christ, the Great I AM, Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the same which looked upon the wide expanse of eternity, and all the seraphic hosts of heaven, before the world was made.

D&C 39:1; Hearken and listen to the voice of him who is from all eternity to all eternity, the Great I AM, even Jesus Christ

D&C 51:1, 20; Hearken unto me, saith the Lord your God, and I will speak unto my servant Edward Partridge… 20 Verily, I say unto you, I am Jesus Christ, who cometh quickly, in an hour you think not. Even so. Amen.

D&C 53:1-2; Behold, I say unto you, my servant Sidney Gilbert, that I have heard your prayers; and you have called upon me that it should be made known unto you, of the Lord your God, concerning your calling and election in the church, which I, the Lord, have raised up in these last days. 2 Behold, I, the Lord, who was crucified for the sins of the world

D&C 62:1; Behold, and hearken, O ye elders of my church, saith the Lord your God, even Jesus Christ, your advocate, who knoweth the weakness of man and how to succor them who are tempted.

D&C 63:59-60; Behold, I am from above, and my power lieth beneath. I am over all, and in all, and through all, and search all things, and the day cometh that all things shall be subject unto me.60 Behold, I am Alpha and Omega, even Jesus Christ.

D&C 66:13; Verily, thus saith the Lord your God, your Redeemer, even Jesus Christ. Amen.

D&C 76:1; Hear, O ye heavens, and give ear, O earth, and rejoice ye inhabitants thereof, for the Lord is God, and beside him there is no Savior.

D&C 81:7; Behold, and lo, these are the words of Alpha and Omega, even Jesus Christ. Amen.

D&C 130:22; The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s; the Son also; but the Holy Ghost has not a body of flesh and bones, but is a personage of Spirit. Were it not so, the Holy Ghost could not dwell in us.

 Gal. 6:7; Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

 Dead People Repent

      The following is interesting.

 D&C 138:58-59;The dead who repent will be redeemed, through obedience to the ordinances of the house of God,  59 And after they have paid the penalty of their transgressions, and are washed clean, shall receive a reward according to their works, for they are heirs of salvation.

 How can dead people repent?

How can dead people pay a penalty for their transgressions?

What about Jesus?

Didn’t the vicarious service of baptism for the dead settle their account?

Gnashing of Teeth

Alma 14:21; And many such things did they say unto them, gnashing their teeth upon them, and spitting upon them, and saying: How shall we look when we are damned?

 Questions:

 How exactly does one go about gnashing teeth upon someone?

Does this sound inspired of God?

 Strange Acts of God

     The indwelling of the Holy Spirit into the adopted children of God has to be one of the best miracles God has ever performed.  I sit in awe each time I dwell upon His love for me and for the way He is ever faithful.  Nothing about His works has ever been to demean or abuse us.  And knowing He is always there to provide for me will always be a comfort to me.  I wouldn’t pretend to know what lies ahead for me personally in this life, but I know I will always be humbled and safe.  That is why I find it offensive when I discovered this verse in the Doctrine and Covenants.

 D&C 95:4; For the preparation wherewith I design to prepare mine apostles to prune my vineyard for the last time, that I may bring to pass my strange act, that I may pour out my Spirit upon all flesh.

John 14:16-18; And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;  17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.  18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

 No Polygamy!

     Ugh, this is one of my most dreaded subjects that we deal with concerning Mormonism.  The demoralization of this vulgar practice knows no bounds. Those who are caught in its snares are affected in one way or another for life; men, women and children alike.  The warnings from Moses down to Paul weren’t meant solely for their day, but for ours as well.  It makes me think that maybe God knew what He was talking about!

 D&C 42:22, 26; Thou shalt love thy wife with all thy heart, and shalt cleave unto her and none else.  But if he doeth it again, he shall not be forgiven, but shall be cast out.

Deut. 17:17; Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold.

 8 Months Later…Another Prophecy on Polygamy and Temptation

D&C 66:10-11; Seek not to be cumbered. Forsake all unrighteousness. Commit not adultery—a temptation with which thou hast been troubled.  11 Keep these sayings, for they are true and faithful; and thou shalt magnify thine office, and push many people to Zion with songs of everlasting joy upon their heads.

Ex. 20:14; Thou shalt not commit adultery.

Save Yourselves

     Just about everyone I’ve met tells me the same thing; “If the Mormon really believes all this then why are they so nice?”

     I do admit on the outside they do seem amiable enough, but being friendly doesn’t get you into heaven any faster than saving yourself can.  And this is what breaks my heart for the Mormon people.  They are nice, but they also believe they are their own Saviors.  Try as I might I cannot convince my mother that being a doormat for the Relief Society doesn’t gain her Brownie points with God.  Yet this is the only message the Mormons ever preach.

 D&C 38:40-42; And again, I say unto you, I give unto you a commandment, that every man, both elder, priest, teacher, and also member, go to with his might, with the labor of his hands, to prepare and accomplish the things which I have commanded.  41 And let your preaching be the warning voice, every man to his neighbor, in mildness and in meekness.  42 And go ye out from among the wicked. Save yourselves. Be ye clean that bear the vessels of the Lord. Even so. Amen.

Gal. 2:16-17; Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.  17 But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid.

 Odd Reactions

     Whenever I see things like this I have to wonder…

 Is this really inspired?

      The Holman Bible dictionary says this about the inspiration of scripture; “As indicated in the biblical explanation, inspiration is a divine-human encounter whereby God reveals truth. It is a message from God and of God, as well as through persons and for persons.”  From this understanding we can therefore ask ourselves if it is an inspired work of God.

 Is the “scripture” below a message from God and of God?

Is it for people like you, me or even my mother?

How is this “scripture” beneficial for your spiritual growth?

 Alma 14:8-11; And they brought their wives and children together, and whosoever believed or had been taught to believe in the word of God they caused that they should be cast into the fire; and they also brought forth their records which contained the holy scriptures, and cast them into the fire also, that they might be burned and destroyed by fire.  9 And it came to pass that they took Alma and Amulek, and carried them forth to the place of martyrdom, that they might witness the destruction of those who were consumed by fire.  10 And when Amulek saw the pains of the women and children who were consuming in the fire, he also was pained; and he said unto Alma: How can we witness this awful scene? Therefore let us stretch forth our hands, and exercise the power of God which is in us, and save them from the flames.  11 But Alma said unto him: The Spirit constraineth me that I must not stretch forth mine hand; for behold the Lord receiveth them up unto himself, in glory; and he doth suffer that they may do this thing, or that the people may do this thing unto them, according to the hardness of their hearts, that the judgments which he shall exercise upon them in his wrath may be just; and the blood of the innocent shall stand as a witness against them, yea, and cry mightily against them at the last day.

      Questions:

 If these holy men had the opportunity to save righteous people from the fire why didn’t they do it?

How was watching these people burn so that others would go to hell be the proper thing to do?

 From a Christian who wrote in asking the following question and providing the verses below:

 “Would you say there is a correlation here?”

 3 Nephi 17:23-24;And he spake unto the multitude, and said unto them: Behold your little ones.  24 And as they looked to behold they cast their eyes towards heaven, and they saw the heavens open, and they saw angels descending out of heaven as it were in the midst of fire; and they came down and encircled those little ones about, and they were encircled about with fire; and the angels did minister unto them.

Lev. 18:21; And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD.

      As always we are praying the LDS will stop for just a moment and contemplate a few of these scenarios.  I personally know what it means to be overwhelmed with it all, but when that scenario was taking place for me fifteen years ago, the one thing I knew I had to do was listen to Jesus’ voice more above my family’s heritage.

 With Love in Christ;
