March 13 – Gen. 3:24; “So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubim’s, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life”.

Next to John 3:16, the Genesis scripture should be at the forefront of every believer’s mind.  Man was separated from God, thus the need for John 3:16.  It was not God’s intention for this to happen.  He knew it would happen, but it doesn’t mean that He willed it to happen.  The Mormon believes man had to sin in order to know joy, sadness and to even procreate.  They believe this sin commandment came from God.

February 28 – Matthew 16:13-16; “When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?  And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptists: some, Elias; and other, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.  He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?  And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God”.

There have been and will continue to be many who call themselves “The Christ” or the only path to salvation.  In today’s age, we see Mohammed, the Jehovah Witnesses, and here we have the Mormon Church.  Make sure you know whom Jesus Christ is and watch out for the wolves in sheep’s clothing.

Jedidiah M. Grant said in Journal of Discourses, Vol. 1. pp. 345-46; “The grand reason of the burst of public sentiment in anathemas upon Christ and his disciples, causing his crucifixion, was evidently based upon polygamy, according to the testimony of the philosophers who rose in that age.  A belief in the doctrine of a plurality of wives caused the persecution of Jesus and his followers.  We might almost think that they [Jesus and his followers] were Mormons.”

Ask the Mormon if Joseph Smith had absolute proof that he truly was related to Jesus Christ then what good does it do him?  What purpose does it serve to even mention something like this?  Would it mean that he had a ticket to heaven because of it?

February 25 – “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God;  And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even death of the cross.”  Phil. 2:5-6, 8.

_____

There are actually two subjects to notice with this verse.  Explain the word “robbery” to the Mormon.  In the Greek, it means “grasped”.  The other subject is the belief that Jesus had to perform, or work, to receive His salvation.

February 24 – “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God”.  Romans 3:23.

_____

Not one Mormon believes that children can sin.  They baptize at the age of eight to be cleansed from their sins because this is when they believe you become accountable for your actions.  Have a Mormon try to explain away a two-year-old child’s behavior.  Also ask them why they’d have to be baptized for a remission of sins if they were perfect up until they got baptized.

_____

D&C 29:47-8; “Wherefore, they cannot sin, for power is not given unto Satan to tempt little children, until they begin to become accountable before me; For it is given unto them even as I will, according to mine own pleasure, that great things may be required at the hands of their fathers”.

February 21 – God warns us about false prophets in Deut. 13:6-9; “If thy brother, the son of they mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou has no known, thou, nor thy father; Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth; Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him: But thou shalt surely kill him…”

It seems clear how serious God was in regards to false prophets.  He wanted none of them to survive, and He certainly didn’t want us to pity them.  We are told not to listen at all to them.

Joseph Smith seemed to believe that he could slip out of his self-proclaimed prophet-hood anytime he chose to do so.  Is this reasonable considering all we’ve learned just this year?  He is quoted in Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith as follows; “…I told them that a prophet was a prophet only when he was acting as such”.  History of the Church 5:265

February 20 – Col. 2:13; “And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses”.

_____

In Mormonism, God does not forgive three sins.  They are blasphemy against the Holy Ghost, apostasy and murder.  With this in mind, isn’t it odd that God would choose Paul of all people to preach the gospel when he participated in Stephen’s martyrdom and then there’s David…

_____

“A murderer, for instance, one that sheds innocent blood, cannot have forgiveness.  David sought repentance at the hand of God carefully with tears, for the murder of Uriah; but he could only get it through hell…Although David was a king, he never did obtain the spirit and power of Elijah and the fullness of the Priesthood…the throne and kingdom of David is to be taken from him and given to another by the name of David in the last days…”  Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pg 339.

February 16 – 1 Corinthians 15:47; “The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven”.

_____

Mormons will tell you there aren’t any scriptures that say we don’t have a heavenly mother, yet it’s clear that God is self-existent without the need of anyone’s help for creating us.  In fact, He’s the only one to come down from heaven at all, meaning we were not with Him before living on this earth.  Ask the Mormon why they believe there is a “Heavenly Mother”.

_____

“This doctrine that there is a Mother in Heaven was affirmed in plainness by the First Presidency of the Church…that man is the “offspring of celestial parentage” and that “all men and women are in the similitude of the universal Father and Mother, and are literally the sons and daughters of Deity””.  Mormon Doctrine pg. 516, Bruce McConkie.

Studying the Book of Mormon 12

“To generalize is to be an idiot” – William Blake

Mormon 5:7; “And it came to pass that we did again take to flight, and those whose flight was swifter than the Lamanites’ did escape, and those whose flight did not exceed the Lamanites’ were swept down and destroyed.

With those two things in mind, let’s take a quick look at what other people have said and done in history.

389 AD – St. Patrick is born

400 AD – Niall is first man called king of Ireland

405 AD – Jerome completes the Vulgate

410 AD – Visigoths sack Rome

410 AD – trousers are introduced replacing togas and in China stirrups are invented making it easier to ride horses

413 AD – St. Augustine writes City of God

415 AD – Jews are expelled from Alexandria

September 30, 420 AD – Jerome dies peacefully in Bethlehem while working on his commentary of Ezekiel.

February 8, 421 AD – Constantius III becomes co-Emperor of Western Roman Empire

September 2, 421 AD – Constantius III dies

422 AD – The walls of The Colosseum crack during an earthquake

439 AD – Vandals conquer Carthage

These events in fifty years of history around the time of Moroni can be verified with the assurance they surely took place.  Names of people, cities they lived in, inventions, and books they may have written can be verified through archaeological evidences or historical events documented through time. (1)

Why is it we can’t find any archaeological evidence from the Book of Mormon?  Nothing, and I do mean nothing, has ever been found to authenticate the claims made by Joseph Smith.

The past few months have proven themselves to be an interesting time of discovery during our studies.  What we have unearthed hasn’t cast a favorable light on the writings of Joseph Smith.

We’ve found that Nephi and Lehi’s claims of being persecuted by the Jews in Jerusalem in 600 BC were nothing more than a far-fetched story etched in the mind of Joseph Smith.

The probability of the Jaredites actually sailing across the Atlantic in 2200 BC is virtually incalculable and the Tower of Babel story was off by more than a thousand years.

One thing I wish I would’ve done is to count the number of false prophecies, alas; we’ll leave that for another day.  Suffice it to say there are more than a few.

Moroni is the last prophet in the line of the Nephites and his book carries the title of his name.  In essence he is sharing a letter his father wrote to him of a long drawn out farewell to his son and other Nephites clearly stating he knew no one would see the sacred writings of his forefathers in the centuries to come.  It’s just a little too coincidental and convenient.

Smith has set up for himself a fail proof prophecy by trying to prove that he is the appointed one spoken of by Moroni some fourteen hundred years earlier.

The book of Moroni reminded me of a self pity party gone bad.  Interspersed with the woe-is-me psyche, the first six chapters are filled with instructions of how to administer the elements, ordination procedures of priests/teachers, baptismal rituals and consequences for sin.

Chapters 6 through 8 are filled with half quotes lifted from the Bible and in chapter 9 we see one of the hallmarks in Smith’s thought process.  It is clear after you’ve studied the Mormon religion that it’s been built upon two things.  Those two indicating factors are sex and godhood status.

 Moroni 9:9;

…For behold, many of the daughters of the Lamanites have they taken prisoners; and after depriving them of that which was most dear and precious above all things, which is chastity and virtue—

Aside from the racist view of non-whites, this is the most offensive teaching found in the Book of Mormon.  How do you deprive someone of being chaste or virtuous?  You can’t force someone to lie, nor can you force someone to be an honorable person.  The only way one could interpret this verse is to understand your virginity is more important than all other things.  You are ruined and worthless in the eyes of God if you’re a victim of rape.  This is particularly bad for women in Utah.  The rate of rape in Utah is always higher than the national average and it’s been that way for decades now.  See our article on vital stats in Utah here http://www.lifeafter.org/stats2008a.asp

Imagine how 33% of the women in Utah feel while sitting in a Sacrament meeting reading that.  Good job Mr. Smith.

I cannot understand how any Mormon could find hope for their tired soul anywhere in Moroni, let alone the Book of Mormon.  Sadly, we’ve found that Mormons have a voracious appetite in defending this work and I’m left to wonder if they’ve even bothered to read it.

One of the main problems with the Book of Mormon is the glaring lack of a dictionary enabling us to gain a full understanding of Reformed Egyptian.

To complicate matters even further, the teachings from the last two chapters of Moroni don’t correspond with basic tenets found within Mormonism.  Grace, the Trinity and final judgment after death are all foreign concepts to the Mormon. It’s obvious these teachings and words have been incorporated into the text to confuse members, making it sound biblical.

The infamous “burning in the bosom” passage is located in Moroni 10:3-5 which boldly contradicts what the Bible says in Jeremiah 17:9.

Moroni 10:3-5; “Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them, that ye would remember how merciful the Lord hath been unto the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down until the time that ye shall receive these things, and ponder it in your hearts.  4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.  5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.

Jeremiah 17:9; “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

Below you’ll find basic statistics about the book of Moroni pointing out errors, false prophecies, grammatical problems, Greek and Latin words in the Book of Mormon and noteworthy teachings.

Think about this while you look at the statistical info below.

If God is perfect, why would he use poor grammar in the Book of Mormon?

If Joseph Smith was truly a prophet of God then why did he announce that he used no Greek or Latin words in the Book of Mormon?

If the Book of Mormon is true when it states God is the same from everlasting to everlasting, how do you explain that God was once a man?

If the Nephites truly lived in the fifth century, why were they using phrases from the Bible that was written on a different continent four hundred years earlier?

If you’re a member of the LDS Church, know that we pray for you every single day.  My heart is heavy knowing the struggle it is to be a Mormon.  I lived that life for 30 years.  There are questions that need to be answered about the Book of Mormon and it’s your right to have your questions answered honestly.

If the Book of Mormon doesn’t line up with basic common sense regarding historical, grammatical and biblical investigation then you need to know so that you can make an intelligent decision in what you want to do.  Worshipping the wrong god has serious consequences in the hereafter.

 With Love in Christ;

Michelle Grim

THE GREAT DEBATES

October 1988

October 2006

Late October 1988, Las Vegas, Nevada.  It was there, that a small group of people stood over a hole in the ground, watching as the tiny white casket which held its precious cargo was lowered into its final resting place.  The casket held a child of God that was serving a mission for the Lord and from the results of her funeral; many would come to know the saving power of Christ Jesus, His crucifixion and resurrection.

Of course the baby’s parents felt as bad as they looked on that cold autumn morning and the baby’s grandparents, a couple of uncles and a cousin stood by to support her grief-stricken  mom and dad.  Nothing anyone could say would make it better as far as her mom was concerned and as the sound of the bishop’s voice droned on, the thoughts of the childless new mother was not at her daughter’s graveside.

Within the first five minutes of the eulogy that cold morning Mallory’s mom frantically searched her memory bank of the Jesus she had heard about in her travels over the past six years.  What very little she did know wasn’t even close to what that bishop was proclaiming.

At the end of the graveside service the wind picked up as everyone walked back to their vehicles and the heartbroken mom turned to catch one more glimpse of her baby’s casket.  The mom and dad drove home in stunned silence for most of the twenty minute drive back to the apartment.  Little things were spoken between the two; “she sure had a lot of black curly hair” and “her nose looked just like…”  What was there to be said?  There was no baby, no help, no hope, no God to reach to and find comfort.  The only thing she left that graveyard with was the bishop’s voice telling her that she would never see her baby again because they hadn’t been married in the temple.  God would give Mallory to another family who was worthy of her.  That’s when the visual made its appearance and the bishop’s voice began to serve as noise in the background.

When he said the words “she’ll be given to another couple who is worthy of her because they have been married in the temple…” her mind instantly pictured a massive white building with little to no windows; the temple.  On the other side of the picture there stood a cross with blood that had been dripping from its owner that made the dust that caught the blood Holy ground.

Back at the apartment the young woman walked in her little home to be greeted by her own mother.  As they changed clothes and began making lunch the debate that had been at the tips of everyone’s tongues broke loose.

The younger mom said to the older mom; “…didn’t you hear what that guy said?  He told me that I was going to hell!”  The older mom shook her head and made a clicking noise with her tongue as she told her daughter that she had misunderstood the bishop.  The young, defiant woman knew differently; yet sadly enough neither she nor her husband even discussed the funeral until four years later.  However, for now the bishop’s quote of the Prophet Joseph Fielding Smith rang in her ears; “If parents are righteous, they will have their children after the resurrection. Little children who die, whose parents are not worthy of an exaltation, will be adopted into the families of those who are worthy.”

How was that to be misunderstood?  It seemed rather dry and pretty straightforward to her.  She wanted God, but didn’t know how to go about “getting” Him as she was too intimidated to visit another church.  She also didn’t know that the Holy, Merciful God of the Bible, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob would bless the couple with two more daughters within the next four years and the greatest gift of all; their salvation!

I never could have imagined that eighteen years later I would be praising a righteous Sovereign God for the gift of Mallory Elizabeth Grim and be involved in yet another debate.  This time it would be in a Seattle Christian radio station with my husband and of course who else, but a couple of Mormons?!

The debate in that apartment has now lasted 18 years.  I’ve never counted how many times I’ve “debated” with my mother about that day so long ago.  She is just as convinced today that I misunderstood and I’m even more convinced I heard them correctly.  The divide is wide indeed, but Jesus warned us of these days.  He said there would be mothers against daughters and sons against fathers on account of His name.

It is almost surreal for me as I look back on that day in Vegas and think of what God has done for my family and for me too.  I never would have imagined that this is what I would be doing; yet now I cannot imagine not doing this work!  The debate at KGNW last week with Thor Tolo has blessed us beyond measure.  We can’t thank everyone enough for their prayers that went up for the event!  I’ve had people pray for me before when I speak or do a radio show, but in all honesty I have never experienced what I did this last week and the week prior to the taping of the show!  It was very obvious to those in the studio and to Kirk and me that God was present among us!

I noticed the “misunderstandings” and topics between the debate last week and the debate 18 years ago were very similar.  They both contained the following subjects:  absence of the cross, no assurance of salvation and good works.  The most striking similarity was the emptiness in my heart while I wondered why; both then and now.  Why is it they won’t even stop to give it (the truth) the slightest of consideration?  What bad thing could it bring upon you to just consider the possibility that there may be some truth in what we (non-Mormons; Christians) proclaim?

Mallory wasn’t the only “thing” I buried that day in 1988.  Before I got up from my chair at that gravesite I recall looking down into the grave and picturing myself placing my heritage down there as well.  I knew on that day my ignorant, misinformed perception of “my people” was over and done with.

One of the first things Thor asked me at the debate was to explain why I believe the Mormons are not Christians.  I told him the main reason is because of the cross.  In Mormonism there is no cross in the sense of it being the altar of God.  Once again, it’s about the cross, or rather the lack thereof.  The sign of the empty cross doesn’t just imply, but shouts out the good news of our salvation and resurrection!  On the flip side you see the Mormon parents at their child’s funeral.  All that is offered is the hope of going to the temple a year later to work for salvation of the child and the parent; no mention of a cross in that scenario.

When Thor asked Stake President Burnham if he had assurance of his salvation, he replied; “Well now you’re testing my humility”.  Oh please.   I knew he wouldn’t be able to proclaim any good news of rest for his own soul, assurance that the Shepherd is always with him to lead, console and keep watch over His flock.  There is no hope when you are working all the time for your own life.  How are you rejuvenated, fed, rested and refreshed?  You can’t be if you are the one that is always in control.  It took me years to disencumber myself of the filthy robe of self-sufficiency.  I felt much like what the apostle Paul described in Romans chapter seven; “why do I do the things I don’t want to do but don’t do the things I want to do”?  The only way my life got into order is when I got off the merry-go-round of doing good works for my salvation.  Even to this day, how could I be sure if it (salvation) was based on my own worthiness?  This week and last week I’ve worked pretty hard.  Next week I might get distracted or maybe take it easy.  How do I justify myself in God’s eyes with this type of spiritual battle going on inside my soul?

As mentioned earlier, we have been so blessed by seeing God at work in people’s lives.  It’s been nothing short of an honor to watch His grace flow to those around us!  We’re sending out this praise and prayer report so you can be blessed as well!  Continue to pray won’t you that those who are struggling with their decision to either join or leave the Church would be made through the will of the true God of the Bible?  And pray for us as we help the people in their decisions so that we would only be focused on Him and our reasons for doing this!

Mr. Burnham e-mailed Kirk and me a couple of days after the debate to let us know that he had researched our claim about the false prophecy of Oliver Granger.  We’ll be posting that on the site this week.  He wanted us to be sure to let everyone know that indeed the prophecy did come true.  He (Burnham) found some letters that were written by Granger’s descendants describing their grandfather and what he had done for the Church.  As we stated on the show, it didn’t come to pass.  This brings us to a little project.  We’re asking everyone to let us know; have you ever heard of Oliver Granger?  We’ll be posting our findings on the site at the end of the month!

You can download and listen to the debate by clicking on the links below. Each file is approximately 9 MB.  These take you to the website of KGNW and the Live From Seattle Show.

Praise!  We cannot give too many details for privacy reasons, however, someone here in the Puget Sound Community, ex-Mormon, accepted the true Lord Jesus into “their” heart as Lord and Savior because of the debate!  All we can say is “Praise God!”

We’ve been in touch several times with a very nice lady who listened to KGNW the Monday after the show (Thor actually had me do the program w/ him impromptu).  I was able to pray for a woman whose daughter is thinking of joining the Church.  Daughter’s name is Lauren, 18, freshman at University of Washington.  Lauren needs to be introduced to good Christian kids on campus.

I (Michelle) received several e-mails from members of the Church who believe that I am totally wrong about my claims in regards to the lack of the cross and want for me to issue a public apology for my statements on KGNW.  My answer…no.

Praise!  An ex-Mormon Christian listening to the debate wrote in to volunteer to help us at the ministry!

Praise!   We have a volunteer for translating our tracts from English into Spanish!  Because the Lord provided so quickly and abundantly on this I’m going to be confident in asking my next request!  If you speak a language other than English or Spanish and would like to see tracts printed in that language and would be willing to translate them for us, let us know!

Praise!  We received many requests for mentoring packets.  The new outlines are going to print this week, if you’re interested in an expanded, updated version (80 pgs.), don’t forget to send an e-mail to michelle@lifeafter.org to let me know!  We’re requesting $3.00 for s+h for postage.

Prayer and Praise!  A 40+ year old mentally disabled man contacted Life After about a week before the debate.  He was a convert in the LDS Church and was active for approximately seven years.  He felt the Lord tell him two months ago to leave the Church because they weren’t Christian.  Ironically enough, Michael, ended up attending my church.  He then was listening to the radio, heard the debate and called our ministry line.  To make things even more confusing for him, Mr. Burnham (from the debate) is Michael’s Stake President.  Various members of his ward are harassing him at the stores, etc., in the town they live.  I am confident you’ll know how to pray!  J   This isn’t the first time I’ve had to deal with the Church and mentally impaired members who want out.

Jeff Burnham – Stake President at debate.

Doug Crandall – Jeff’s neighbor and fellow Mormon at debate.

We thank each and every one of you for praying for us and the ministry.  We couldn’t do this without you!  May God bless you and our warmest greetings go out to you as you celebrate this upcoming Thanksgiving!

With Love in Christ;

Michelle Grim

Quote of the month from the Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pg. 156; “O ye Twelve! and all Saints! profit by this important Key—that in all your trials, troubles, temptations, afflictions, bonds, imprisonments and death, see to it, that you do not betray heaven; that you do not betray Jesus Christ; that you do not betray the brethren; that you do not betray the revelations of God, whether in Bible, Book of Mormon, or Doctrine and Covenants, or any other that ever was or ever will be given and revealed unto man in this world or that which is to come. Yea, in all your kicking and flounderings, see to it that you do not this thing, lest innocent blood be found upon your skirts, and you go down to hell. All other sins are not to be compared to sinning against the Holy Ghost, and proving a traitor to the brethren.

Joseph Smith’s Character

Will the Real Joseph Smith Please Stand Up?

 By Mark Grote 2004

Born on December 23, 1805, Joseph Smith could run faster, throw farther and jump higher than the other kids in Sharon, Vermont. If you tour the sites in Nauvoo, IL., the place of his death, that’s what you’ll hear of Joseph Smith as you move about the historical landmarks.

But if you are interested in facts, instead of legends, you might find yourself questioning whether it’s a good idea to put your eternity in the hands and beliefs of this man.

Islam vs Mormonism

 by Kirk Grim

The Islamic faith is centered on the belief in one God and in Arabic he is called Allah. The Muslims, followers of Islam, believe that Muhammad was visited by an angel of light from whom he received God’s final revelation. Muhammad claimed that this angel of light was Gabriel, the same Gabriel as the one from the Old Testament of the Bible. It was several years before these visions were recorded in what is called the Quran, the sacred scripture of Islam.

PBS and The Mormons

PBS aired a four hour documentary on the LDS Church on April 30th and May 1st. They will rebroadcast each two hour segment throughout the week so there are a variety of times that you can record it.   Or you can also order a copy of the special directly from PBS for about $25 and PBS has it on their site to watch it online.  I highly encourage everyone to see how this organization took root and expanded.  The majority of those (probably 70%) interviewed are active LDS.  For me it was really sad to watch the looks on the faces of those interviewed while explaining away the controversial issues the Church has faced in the 180 years of its life.

While I admire that the producer didn’t candy-coat the truth about polygamy or the Mountain Meadows Massacre, she also didn’t go into any detail as to why Smith had chosen to practice polygamy or why the members still believe that polygamy and godhood are synonymous with salvation.  The mainstream LDS Church may not be practicing it in the physical realm, but in the temple and spiritually speaking, they are still heavily engaged in this theology.

One descendant of the polygamous clans (now mainstream LDS) shared an excerpt from her great-great-great grandmother’s diary.  In it she (grandma) said how horrible it had been when the grandfather came home one day to announce the bishop had commanded him to take another wife.  The couple had been married for quite some time by then and had several children.  The new wife was 16 years old and was the grandmother of the woman being interviewed.  Her diary held the story of how the other wives felt when their own feelings and pride had to be extinguished for the “sake of the gospel”.  When modern-day polygamist women were interviewed for the show, they were dealing with the same feelings of jealousy, envy, strife and loneliness.  Funny how some things never change just as Solomon wrote in Ecc. 1:9-10; “The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.  Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.”

The fundamental Mormons claim they are the true Mormons and I have to say I agree with them.  I don’t approve of, nor do I condone, their behavior or doxology, however they are indeed practicing real Mormonism.  The documentary played a clip of President Hinckley stating those who are practicing polygamy are not fundamental Mormons.  He said the press and everyone else needs to stop referring to them as such.  And isn’t it “funny” how those things haven’t changed either; ordering people (even the “outsiders”) to do as he says.

I’m praying the documentary enlightens the public at large to the fallacies of the type of Christianity the Mormon Church is trying to push.  They obviously made it clear enough that their brand of Christianity isn’t the same as the Judeo-Christian type.  Many of the people who have e-mailed us in response to it have voiced the same thing.

The main points that I pray will get through to the Mormon people aren’t filled with rocket science grade theology.  In fact the topics and questions are quite simplistic in nature.

Why did the god of Mormonism change his mind in regards to polygamy?  If this was really from God, wouldn’t or better yet couldn’t He have made it possible to stay legal?

Why did the Mormon god change His mind about the blacks and the priesthood in 1978?

When a person that is ex-communicated or resigns from the Church loses all their blessings from their baptism, what happens to the dead people they were baptized for; do they lose their blessings as well?

Jesus tells us to be in the world not of it, therefore we are to be separated from those who carouse around and openly defy the Lord.  However, being separated from the rest of the body of Christ is even more remote and not biblical.

Have you ever wondered why everyone from the beginning of Christianity believes in the same spiritual laws except the LDS Church?

Although the documentary didn’t mention the entire turn of events on the day Joseph Smith was shot and killed I think it’s important that we take a look at the sequence of events on that fateful day in history.  It says in History of the Church documents that Smith shot and killed two people himself before dying.  History of the Church 6:617-619.  According to Webster’s Dictionary the definition of a martyr is:

“one who voluntarily suffers death for the sake of a cause”.  They define the word “voluntarily” as: “having power of free choice, proceeding from the will or from one’s own choice or consent…”

Now let’s take that event and compare it with what Joseph said about himself and what Isaiah prophesied about Jesus 700 years before the Savior’s birth.

Joseph:  “Like a Lamb to the Slaughter

Henry G. Sherwood went up to Joseph and said, “Brother Joseph, shall I return to Nauvoo and regulate about getting the arms and get the receipts for them?” Joseph inquired if he was under arrest, or expected to be arrested. Sherwood answered “No,” when Joseph directed him to return ahead of the company, gather the arms and do as well as he could in all things. Joseph then said to the company who were with him, “I am going like a lamb to the slaughter, but I am calm as a summer’s morning. I have a conscience void of offense toward God and toward all men. If they take my life I shall die an innocent man, and my blood shall cry from the ground for vengeance, and it shall be said of me, ‘He was murdered in cold blood!'” He then said to Father Sherwood, “Go, and God bless you.” Sherwood then rode as swiftly as he could to Nauvoo. (June 24, 1844.)   —DHC 6:554-555.

Bible:  Isaiah – Chapter 53:4-9; “4 ¶ Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.  5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.  6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.  7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.  8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.  9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.”

As you can see there is a great disparity between the two examples with just enough plagiarisms to confuse the members.  Jesus was trampled, pummeled, spit upon, beaten, flogged, degraded, and crucified, yet He said not a word.  He was the true Lamb of God that was taken to slaughter; yet He was not worthy of the crime; His blood never cries out to those who have put themselves in His place.

Shame on Mr. Smith, for he says that his blood will surely cry out for vengeance.  The word of God commands that we are not to seek out vengeance, for it belongs to Him alone.  Smith was indeed guilty of the crimes he was charged with!  While I don’t think he was given a fair day in court, he also wasn’t what he claimed to be and that was innocent!

I encourage and challenge the Mormon that reads this to verify the documentation that is given here and also from the documentary if you watched it.  There is no sin in making sure you’re making the right decision and certainly there is no shame in it either my friend.  Know that we’re praying for all Mormons and hope they do find the truth!

Passion of the Christ and Mormons

Mormons stay away from Passion because of ‘R’ rating
In what is just another example of how Mormons are under the law, Mormons stayed away from theaters for the Passion of the Christ so they would not be seen at an R-rated movie.  In spite of what Mormons think, in reality, Mel Gibson probably did not go far enough in his depiction of Christ’s suffering.

One has to wonder if the story was about Joseph Smith’s death, would the church care as much about these arbitrary ratings? Does the church care about appearances to a worldly rating system more than sharing in the suffering of their “Lord”?

In a word, yes!
