“Free will carried many a soul to hell, but never a soul to heaven.” Charles Spurgeon
General Conference, ‘Essential Conversations’, April 2021 “There is a uniquely special time in children’s lives when they are protected from Satan’s influence. It is a time when they are innocent and sin free. It is a sacred time for parent and child. Children are to be taught, by word and example, before and after they have “arrived unto the years of accountability before God.” … As we nurture and prepare our children, we allow for their agency…and we never, ever, give up on them. After all, isn’t this the Lord’s way with each of us?” — Joy D. Jones (more…)

General Conference, ‘Why the Covenant Path’, April 2021 “…there are many who, while not on the covenant path themselves, act in a way that
mirrors the choices and contributions of those who are on the path. You might say they reap the blessings of walking a “covenant-consistent” path. What, then, is the difference of the covenant path?
Actually, the difference is uniquely and eternally significant. It includes the nature of our obedience, the character of God’s commitment to us, the divine help we receive, the blessings tied to gathering as a covenant people, and most importantly, our eternal inheritance.” — D. This is help that can come only through divine grace, administered by the Holy Ghost. … There is also a weekly gathering of the covenant people to the house of prayer on the Lord’s day, that we may “more fully keep [ourselves] unspotted from the world.” — D. Today we’ve pulled a few interesting things from a talk given by LDS apostle, Quentin Cook. To read their article in full see General Conference, ‘Bishops—Shepherds over the Lord’s Flock’, April 2021.
As a summary, Mr. Cook spoke at the priesthood session on the duties of LDS bishops and the role they should have in the lives of those under their care. Below is a list of the quotes followed by what the Lord has said in His word.
First and foremost, however, we mustn’t forget to pray for the salvation of the kids involved, and those bishops as well!

General Conference, ‘Beware of False Prophets and False Teachers’, October 1999 “…there are false prophets and false teachers who
have or at least claim to have membership in the Church. They declare that the Book of Mormon and other canonical works are not ancient records of scripture. They also attempt to redefine the nature of the Godhead…
… False prophets and false teachers are those who arrogantly attempt to fashion new interpretations of the scriptures to demonstrate that these sacred texts should not be read as God’s words to His children but merely as the utterances of uninspired men, limited by their own prejudices and cultural biases. They argue, therefore, that the scriptures require new interpretation and that they are uniquely qualified to offer that interpretation.” — M. Russell Ballard (more…)

December 22 — Wise Men, Kings, and Prophets. Numbers 24:17 “I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth.”
Matthew 2:8-12 “And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also. 9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. 10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. 11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. 12 And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.” (more…)

Today we’re taking another look at Henry Eyring’s talk from this past General Conference. In our previous article, we focused on the anachronisms in Eyring’s talk, but this time we’re looking at the racist context from the references he used from the Book of Moses.
We’re comparing what Mr. Eyring said with God’s word. You’ll see our comments/questions in red font.
General Conference, ‘Sisters in Zion’, October 2020 “We know that the Savior will come to a people who have been gathered and prepared to live as the people did in the city of Enoch. The people there were united in faith in Jesus Christ and had become so completely pure that they were taken up to heaven. …
There’s no such city in the Bible.
This dispensation is distinct in that the Lord will lead us to become prepared to be like the city of Enoch. He has described through His apostles and prophets what that transformation to a Zion people will entail.
This means you should ready yourself for more works. (more…)

General Conference, ‘Love Your Enemies’, October 2020 “An essential part of loving our enemies is to render unto Caesar by keeping the
laws of our various countries. Though Jesus’s teachings were revolutionary, He did not teach revolution or lawbreaking. He taught a better way. Modern revelation teaches the same:
“Let no man break the laws of the land, for he that keepeth the laws of God hath no need to break the laws of the land.
“Wherefore, be subject to the powers that be” (Doctrine and Covenants 58:21–22).
And our article of faith, written by the Prophet Joseph Smith after the early Saints had suffered severe persecution from Missouri officials, declares, “We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law” (Articles of Faith 1:12).” — Dallin Oaks (more…)
Mating is Top Priority for LDS

“The end of all activity in the Church is to see that a man and a woman with their children are happy at home, sealed for eternity.” — Boyd K. Packer, 2015
Earlier this month we posted an article on a talk given by Dale Renlund who stated that LDS members should ask themselves if they’ve done enough. In his talk he mentioned another talk given by Boyd Packer in 2015.
Mr. Packer’s talk had two subject matters; the importance of ‘mating’, and the atonement of Christ. Over the next few days, we’ll look at some of the statements Mr. Packer made at that time. To be sure, his comments earned a spot in our next publication of ‘Worst of the Worst’. We looked at a small portion of his talk back when he originally gave it in 2015.
General Conference, ‘The Plan of Happiness’, April 2015 “The commandment to multiply and replenish the earth has never been rescinded. It is essential to the plan of redemption and is the source of human happiness. Through the righteous exercise of this power, we may come close to our Father in Heaven and experience a fulness of joy, even godhood. The power of procreation is not an incidental part of the plan; it is the plan of happiness; it is the key to happiness. (more…)

General Conference, ‘Hearts Knit in Righteousness and Unity’, October 2020 “Unity is enhanced when people are treated with dignity and
respect, even though they are different in outward characteristics.
As leaders, we are not under the illusion that in the past all relationships were perfect, all conduct was Christlike, or all decisions were just. …
Our desire is that our hearts and minds will be knit in righteousness and unity and that we will be one with Them. …
We are all aware that we can do better, and that is our challenge in this day. … At this 200-year hinge point in our Church history, let us commit ourselves as members of the Lord’s Church to live righteously and be united as never before. …” — Quentin L. Cook (more…)

Matthew 15:9 “But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.”
Today we’re looking at three comments from a talk given by Lisa Harkness at the October 2020 General Conference. If you’re unaware, Lisa Harkness is a counselor of the LDS Primary. To read her talk in full, see General Conference, ‘Peace Be Still’, October 2020.
This talk was based on the gospel of Mark, chapter four, where she used a few selected verses to remind LDS members to stay calm during difficult times. Before we go on, I want to be sure my message comes across loud, and clear.
My heart breaks for this woman, and those who’ve been misled by her false teachings. I’m sure I’m not alone when I say it’s sad, she’s so misled, and at the same time frustrated she would lie to people like my mother who most certainly listened to this woman’s talk.
We’re listing her three comments below, and comparing those with what the Bible says. The reason we’re pointing these out is to show why it’s vitally important to know the word of God. The ‘little’ things she said actually describe a different god than that of what is truth. (more…)

General Conference, ‘Keep the Change’, October 2020 “When I was younger, I visualized myself walking along an upward, vertical path
toward my goal of eternal life. Each time I did or said something wrong, I felt myself sliding down the path, only to start my journey all over again. It was like landing on that one square in the children’s game Chutes and Ladders that slides you down from the top of the board back to the beginning of the game! It was discouraging! But as I began to understand the doctrine of Christ and how to apply it daily in my life, I found hope. …
We endure to the end by continuing to apply these principles throughout our lives and inviting the Lord to change us. Enduring to the end means changing to the end. I now understand that I am not starting over with each failed attempt, but that with each try, I am continuing my process of change.” — Becky Craven, Second Counselor in the Young Women General Presidency (more…)
