Jesus of the Bible and Jesus in Mormonism; Not the Same Christ

The week after Thanksgiving is always the same for our family.   We always find ourselves basking in the joy of having full tummies of good food and warm fellowship with other Christians.  The “busy season” is upon us as we rush to the umpteenth performance of our children’s rendition of Pachelbel Canon at the local schools and clap wildly just like we did the first time we heard it.

Full tummies and scratchy orchestra performances are the blessings making our lives joyful, while knowing they are from the one and only God.  With that in mind let us turn our attention to the greatness of our Lord, our God and Savior, Christ Jesus; let us pause for a moment and think upon nothing and no one, save Him only.

Jesus is the Only Way

By Melissa Grimes

I recently come upon this quote by Gordon B. Hinckley:

“Just as our Redeemer gave His life as a vicarious sacrifice for all men, and in so doing became our Savior, even so we, in a small measure, when we engage in proxy work in the temple, become as saviors to those on the other side who have no means of advancing unless something is done in their behalf by those on earth” (“Closing Remarks,” Ensign, November 2004, 105).

The idea that we have the power to save someone, in the eternal sense is blasphemy. We don’t have the power to do that, only Jesus does. You don’t need someone to do Masonic temple rituals for you in the LDS temple.

Jesus; Did He Claim to be God?

Mormons hold to the faith that Jesus is not God.  Mormons believe that God came down from the heavens one evening, and being an exalted man, had sex with Mary so she could conceive Jesus (Mormon Doctrine of Deity, pg. 264).

Utah’s Dark Reality Just Keeps Getting Darker

2010 Utah Suicide Report

Mark 12:29-34; “And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he: And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.

March 20 – Ex. 12:9 says; “Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it”.

_____

God was rather clear when He told the Israelites not to eat raw meat, but in the Book of Mormon this isn’t a problem with their god.  Ask them why this would be so.

_____

1 Nephi 17:2;  “And so great were the blessings of the Lord upon us, that while we did live upon raw meat in the wilderness, our women did give plenty of suck for their children, and were strong, yea, even like unto the men; and they began to bear their journeyings without murmurings”.

March 19 – Numbers 14:25; “(Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the valley).  To morrow turn you, and get you into the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea”.

_____

Use this verse as a geography lesson for the Mormon.  There has never been a river that empties into the Red Sea.  It is surrounded by wilderness (desert) only.

_____

1 Nephi 2:8; “And it came to pass that he called the name of the river, Laman, and it emptied into the Red Sea; and the valley was in the borders near the mouth thereof.”

VITAL STATS 2006

Every eighteen months or so for the past several years I have compiled a set of reports from varying agencies that describe the health and well being of Utah.  It’s been my experience with the findings that I am saddened each time by the results.  I am more convinced with each report that being a member of the LDS Church plays a major role in the dismal outlook for the residents of Utah, both physically as well as spiritually.

March 18 – Luke 11:33 says; “No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light”.

_____

Word study!  The Mormon Church has their temples to utter secret oaths to their god.  They will tell you they are sacred not secret, but they won’t tell you what those oaths are.  That’s what makes them secret!

_____

1 Nephi 20:16 even says that their god doesn’t speak in secret.  “Come ye near unto me; I have not spoken in secret; from the beginning, from the time that it was declared have I spoken; and the Lord God, and his Spirit hath sent me”.

UTAH’S DARK REALITY

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) the leading cause of death in America is heart disease, with suicide ranking eleventh. [1] Compare that with what the Utah Department of Health says.  They report the leading cause of death for males between the ages of 15-44 as suicide.  The Utah External Injury Data System says that from 1992 to 1999 there were 7,713 suicides alone.  Eleven of those were between the ages of 0-9 years of age. [2]

The rate of suicide in Utah for females between the ages of 15-44 is four times the national average.  With this being said, the CDC has been “unable to explain the regional variation of suicide”.  About 20 percent of successful suicides have occurred in the 13-21 year old age bracket.  The Utah Department of Health has declared it an “epidemic”.   For the past four decades now, Utah has ranked in the top ten for numbers of suicides in the nation.  [3] What is equally disturbing is that the other nine states are located in the intermountain west and Alaska. March 17 – 1 Corinthians 14:33 tells us that God is never a God of confusion.  “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints”.

_____

The Mormon Church teaches that three of the twelve apostles never died.  If this is the case, then why do the Mormons claim the church needed to be restored?

_____

Introduction of 3 Nephi 28.  “Each of the twelve is granted his heart’s desire – Three elect to remain on earth until the Lord comes in his glory…They are made immune to death and disaster”.

March 16 – Matt. 2:1; “Now Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea…”

_____

As of 2004, the Book of Mormon has had more than 4,000 changes made to it that are not considered typographical errors.  Even today’s writings in the Book of Mormon contain a falsehood about Jesus’ birthplace.  Ask your Mormon friend what they think about this and remind them that their personal opinion matters to you!

Alma 7:10; “And behold, he shall be born of Mary, at Jerusalem which is the land of our forefathers…”

March 15 – Is. 40:8; “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever”.

_____

Word study time!  Eternal and forever are the key words for today.  Look them up in a dictionary, concordance and lexicon and then share your new found knowledge with the Mormon.  Be sure to use some of your favorite verses from the Bible that contain these words.  Don’t forget to explain why the verses you share are your favorites.  What did God reveal to you through these things?

_____

2 Nephi 9:16; “And assuredly, as the Lord liveth, for the Lord God hath spoken it, and it is his eternal word which cannot pass away”.

March 14 – Ex. 3:14, John 8:58; “And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM”.  “Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am”.

_____

What an amazing set of scriptures to give to a Mormon!  Ask them why they think the Pharisees were so angry with Jesus after reading these two verses to them.  Then share their own scriptures with them and ask them what it means.

_____

Introductory page of the Book of Mormon, 2nd paragraph:  “JESUS IS THE CHRIST, THE ETERNAL GOD”.

March 13 – Gen. 3:24; “So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubim’s, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life”.

_____

Next to John 3:16, the Genesis scripture should be at the forefront of every believer’s mind.  Man was separated from God, thus the need for John 3:16.  It was not God’s intention for this to happen.  He knew it would happen, but it doesn’t mean that He willed it to happen.  The Mormon believes man had to sin in order to know joy, sadness and to even procreate.  They believe this sin commandment came from God.

March 12 – John 16:17; “Even the Spirit of Truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you”.

Please show the Mormon the truth about the Holy Spirit.  He actually dwells inside of the believer!

“Now what is this other Comforter?  It is no more nor less than the Lord Jesus Christ Himself…that when any man obtains this last Comforter, he will have the personage of Jesus Christ to attend him, or appear unto him from time to time…”  Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pg. 151.

February 28 – Matthew 16:13-16; “When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?  And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptists: some, Elias; and other, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.  He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?  And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God”.

_____

There have been and will continue to be many who call themselves “The Christ” or the only path to salvation.  In today’s age, we see Mohammed, the Jehovah Witnesses, and here we have the Mormon Church.  Make sure you know whom Jesus Christ is and watch out for the wolves in sheep’s clothing.

_____

Jedidiah M. Grant said in Journal of Discourses, Vol. 1. pp. 345-46; “The grand reason of the burst of public sentiment in anathemas upon Christ and his disciples, causing his crucifixion, was evidently based upon polygamy, according to the testimony of the philosophers who rose in that age.  A belief in the doctrine of a plurality of wives caused the persecution of Jesus and his followers.  We might almost think that they [Jesus and his followers] were Mormons.”

February 27 – “Neither is salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”  Acts 4:12

_____

AMEN!  We must ask the Mormon what the phrase “none other name” means to them.

_____

“Some have said that I was very presumptuous to say that Brother Brigham was my God and Saviour, Brother Joseph was his God and the one that gave Joseph the keys of the kingdom was his God which was Peter.  Jesus Christ was his God and (the) Father of Jesus Christ was Adam.”  Journal of Wilford Woodruff, April 10, 1852.

_____

Ask the Mormon if Joseph Smith had absolute proof that he truly was related to Jesus Christ then what good does it do him?  What purpose does it serve to even mention something like this?  Would it mean that he had a ticket to heaven because of it?

_____

D&C 113:5-6; “What is the root of Jesse spoken of in the 10th verse of the 11th chapter (Isaiah).  Behold, thus saith the Lord, it is a descendant of Jesse, as well as of Joseph, unto whom rightly belongs the priesthood, and the keys of the kingdom, for an ensign, and for the gathering of my people in the last days”.

February 25 – “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God;  And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even death of the cross.”  Phil. 2:5-6, 8.

_____

There are actually two subjects to notice with this verse.  Explain the word “robbery” to the Mormon.  In the Greek, it means “grasped”.  The other subject is the belief that Jesus had to perform, or work, to receive His salvation.

_____

“If a man gets a fullness of the priesthood of God he has to get it in the same way that Jesus Christ obtained it, and that was by keeping all the commandments and obeying all the ordinances of the house of the Lord.”  Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pg. 308

February 24 – “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God”.  Romans 3:23.

_____

Not one Mormon believes that children can sin.  They baptize at the age of eight to be cleansed from their sins because this is when they believe you become accountable for your actions.  Have a Mormon try to explain away a two-year-old child’s behavior.  Also ask them why they’d have to be baptized for a remission of sins if they were perfect up until they got baptized.

_____

D&C 29:47-8; “Wherefore, they cannot sin, for power is not given unto Satan to tempt little children, until they begin to become accountable before me; For it is given unto them even as I will, according to mine own pleasure, that great things may be required at the hands of their fathers”.
